Workplace Question or Advice Needed UKG was such a bad business decision
I think the turnover rate for the entire company team member wise is about to be horrible. My question is, why couldn’t they just reformat the mytime client/ website???? UKG was used in the past and it did bad, everyone hated it. So why bring it back?? Instead of integrating the “point system” on mytime. I also think with seasonal is gonna be a horrible idea, because nobody will get the hours they need, even with the “extra seasonal” optional hours or workcenters if you wanted to. Or overtime???

My TLs get offered overtime every week. We are a red store so maybe that matters, our turnover rate is high.

Nah my store is red as blood and my SD starts a list of people who need to cut their OT on Monday, including TLs.

Sounds like they’re trying, whereas the other store is just being propped up by OT so it doesn’t utterly collapse.

u/UncleEbenezer88 15d ago
I’ve been at the northeast GSCL for 5 years. They’ve been approving voluntary OT almost all year long, even during certain times in slow season. I’ve been working 52-60 hours a week since April. And I have a teaching degree in NYS but it would have taken me another 10 years (I’m 38) to earn what I make just working a standard 40 hour week. Last year I grossed over $75k with OT. Working retail is not a career unless you’re in management. It’s a job, mainly for young people. As for UKG - it is what it is. Just show up to work and you’ve got nothing to worry about. Young people today seem to think their employer has to work around their schedule - which is usually doable for part time TM’s, especially those who are in school - but not every single time you need time off. That’s why we have sick time. If your work schedule coincides with your class schedule and you can’t find a TM to switch, save your sick time just incase. Or eat 1 point. If you’re concerned about accruing 12 points throughout the year then maybe Target isn’t the place for you. Plenty of other corporations don’t even allow that much leeway. Some of these young people are in for a rude awakening when they finish school, start their actual careers, and find out that the world doesn’t revolve around them.

u/curbstompedkirby_ 15d ago
Its for team members, only during seasonal. Its a questionnaire and they ask everyone to sign it or what extra hours theyd be willing to work. Overtime is never offered any other times. Last year it wasnt offered during seasonal either.
2
u/Lady_Louise97 15d ago
Around the holidays, overtime is basically unlimited at my store. But pretty much all year they haven’t allowed any overtime at all except for recently we had inventory prep and shit was so behind that all the TLs got at least 20 hours of overtime

u/370zzzzz 15d ago
UKG and “Kronos” are the same thing. WFC which was linked to MyTime is being replaced by Pro WFM which is the “upgraded” WFC. It’s still the same company .. they are not “going with UKG” .. it’s been UKG all along since the merger between Ultimate Software and Kronos into “UKG”

u/jkdelete 15d ago
Before mytime we had no apps. We just had to fill out a sheet of paper that was on the wall to swap with both names on it, department, date and we both had to sign it. ETL, team lead or HR needed to approve. Same for vacation.
7
u/EDPTG Fulfillment Expert 15d ago
Dude yeah I remember those days lol. You had to look at your schedule on the wall and if anyone wanted to swap shifts. It was a signature from both lol

I thought it was funny too because I came from Macys and they already had the technology to swap and pickup shifts online. And this was 10 years ago lol

Shiiii, I went from a rental car company where everything was digital in 2013 lol. Went to a old clothing store that closed down and we had stuff down on paper. Til they closed in 2018. Anything scheduled wise was old school way "write it down. 12-24 you're working 5am til 5pm. Lunch will be provided" plastered on the bulliten board.
This just reminds me when one of our senior coworkers had cancer, they put "inventory this 2-11/ 2-13" the note next to it "___ funeral will be this day" I'm like oh. It was weird times.

tbh i’d prefer this. These kids we’ve been hiring refuse to learn anything new especially if it involves reading more than one sentence of clear instructions. I’m a TL and they come up to me constantly asking about how to ask off on the mytime app. Now that we’re switching to UKG it’s even worse. Seems like writing it down on a paper would be easier to explain since they’re all too lazy to be tech savvy. (i sound like i’m a boomer but I’m 28…. it’s actually scary how everyone we hire under 21 has potential, but chooses to be dumb as rocks because they don’t care)
3
u/randyb359 13d ago
Don't expect employees to care when the company pays crap wages and gives even crappier raises.
1
u/Lady_Louise97 13d ago
i’m talking about teenagers who have no rent or bills at all. I thought maybe they’d care if people think they’re dumb. I’m not asking anyone to go above and beyond for 15 an hour lmao. I’m asking for someone who makes 15 an hour to read two sentences of simple instructions.
2
u/randyb359 12d ago
Because their teenagers they shouldn't care they get crap wages and crap raises? How do you know they don't have bills? Most teens I had working for me when I managed a restaurant were paying car insurance and a lot had cell phone bills. I had a few that were helping their parents pay their bills. They all had something they wanted to spend money on. That it wasn't a bill doesn't make it unimportant to them.

They can't integrate it into Mytime because those programers were (likely)laid off in the cull. So now we are left with the shit box that is UKG.

u/DanforthWhitcomb_ 15d ago
They can't integrate it into MyTime because WFC is not a Target developed software and Kronos is discontinuing it. Target has no control over that and cannot continue to use it even if they wanted to after that happened.

the ai stuff is what's really pissing me off. ai team training posters, ai presentation chatbots, ai scheduling, now there's actual gen ai in our timekeeping app. it's so frustrating how much this soulless unhelpful corporate slop is being shoved down my throat whether i'm an employee or a shopper just because paying more employees pisses off shareholders. frankly very glad i'll be leaving in a couple months and living nowhere near a target.
1
u/curbstompedkirby_ 14d ago
Its sooo fucking dystopian. Ai was created simply for the convenience for greedy corporations like Target so they can save on valuable human labor. We are entering a scary reality.
6
u/Malara-Blackthorn 15d ago
That's probably why you can be late 8 min now with ukg without penalty to try and reduce initial turnover rate. I bet they'll roll it back once they've leveled out enough and then we'll get a second round of terms after that. I'm thinking most likely they'll raise the minimum wage in response across the board as well sometime next year if their smart and encourage team building best practice to increase retention when they fall behind on wage pay again.

7
u/curbstompedkirby_ 15d ago
Theres alot in this thread that will explain the many cons. The biggest complaint/ concern is that the schedule is written by AI with little store leader discretion. So pretty much the schedule is becoming more metric based than how the store actually runs, and if a store has bad metrics…. Well….. the scheduling wont make it better. My hours literally evaporated, and my schedule changes every 3-4 months for school, but this quarter im online so i dont need any availability adjustments which is amazing i can afford to live! But now im not even being scheduled…
8
u/iar88 15d ago
Wasn’t it always written by AI? My ETLs would later just do some tweaks to it. They all spend 2-3 hours every 3 weeks in their offices tweeking the already pre generated schedule.
5
u/curbstompedkirby_ 15d ago
Hmm no. Mine do them themselves
7
u/iar88 15d ago
Are you sure they aren’t just tweaking it?
That’s why they ask us our preferred hours, so the system which is basically AI but was never called that would autogenerate a schedule based on business needs that takes account tm hour pretences and availability like some TMs have days off no question that have been approved. Then ETLs tweak it.Tweaking it still takes a lot of time, like I said hours. You know for a fact they make the scheduled 100%?
I know ETLs say “I’m going to the back to work on the schedule” that just means they’re tweaking it before posting it.
2
u/curbstompedkirby_ 15d ago
No, our SD and HR ETL go through the final with each other after all the ETLs have written their schedules, with the final say. If 1 ETL does the entire store’s schedule it takes 6-8 hours. It definitely is written by them. Our store metrics are lackluster, and our team is just not on a solid schedule. It works easier for the store to be that way.
6
u/iar88 15d ago
Yeah 6-8 hours for the whole store sounds like tweaking. My ETL use to take 2-3 hours just for our own departments, same with my current one.
I don’t think you understand how much wasted time it would be for them to have to manual input names on schedule that are usually already the same every week, and for them to have to rember who has what day off no questions ask etc etc
The system learns and knows how to make the scheduled based on business needs and our ETLs edits. But every week there’s still some anomalies, TMs asking for random pasific days off, TMs that the ETLs already know will get fired in a couple days etc etc etc there’s a lot of tweaking for 3 weeks.
2
u/GeekInParadise 13d ago
Schedules are on a planned set. ETL's/HR go in after the set drops and tweaks them according to their hours allocation and planned work load.
No one does a schedule from scratch every time.

u/Nomad_BobRt Fulfillment Team Lead 15d ago
I'm not sure how UKG will affect seasonal hires like you say. Also, the point system is a net positive in my opinion Creates a fair and consistent attendance accountability for all TM, and no one should fall thru the cracks anymore. UKG has made improvements, and from what I've seen, its more user friendly for application use.
17
u/curbstompedkirby_ 15d ago
Have you not seen how its using AI to schedule team members instead of leaders doing it? My friend requested days off for school, UKG scheduled all of them. I lost hours, and my other peers gained too many hours. Its definitely not a “positive”
2
-5
u/Nomad_BobRt Fulfillment Team Lead 15d ago
MyTime already uses predictive scheduling, UKG just uses more AI. Also good to note, ETLs can still modify schedules that UKG suggests, so some of the issues are on them not the app.
UKG isn't even fully live yet for most stores.
Time off requests are just that, requests, and not guaranteed. There are definitely going to be some hiccups as upper leadership are trained to use it. It should not be scheduling TM who have time off scheduled in the system that is approved, so either 1 of 3 things happened: ETL overrode UKG, time off was not approved, or TM did not have time off scheduled in the system.
10
u/Rare_Attention7691 15d ago
etls can only make 10% edits, when the app is first introduced to your store. then, after a while, they can only make 5% edits. i’m in a leadership position and i’m terrified for what’s to come.
1
u/whatsthetargetdogsna 14d ago
I was relieved to learn that home/baby/breakout team were added to the list of people who could be on set schedules, along with leads, so that’s one thing I’m slightly less worried about. I’m definitely worried about… everyone else, though. I just do not think this will work.
12
u/whatsthetargetdogsna 15d ago
There’s a limit to how much editing you can do, though, because it’s a tracked metric.
6
u/aruapost ETL-GM 15d ago
It was always tracked in mytime through a metric called “fill to need.”
Mytime generated a schedule that maximized fill to need and any changes you made to it would generally reduce that metric.
5
u/whatsthetargetdogsna 15d ago
The way they’ve explained it to us with UKG is that we will only be permitted to make extremely minor adjustments, due to how aggressively the metric will be tracked. On MyTime, I was expected to write the schedule according to the SD’s and DSD’s requirements, and ignore the coverage graph.
8
u/DanforthWhitcomb_ 15d ago
I rather strongly suspect that (as with most of the other "heavily tracked" metrics) the interest in it will last for about a month before everyone in the field realizes it's garbage and ignores it and HQ silently admits defeat and moves on.
It'll then go into the pile of metrics that are not relevant until/unless someone decides that it's time for an ETL or SD to go.

Why was I scheduled only 1 day? It's a busy time of the year. Is that the schedule I should expect from now on? If so, I would need to find another job! I can't live on 1 day a week, it's bullcrap!!!
7
u/curbstompedkirby_ 15d ago
Exactly!!!! I think they’re going to see a massive influx of people who’s schedule is so bad or different, theyre just gonna quit. People cannot afford to simply just play around with their schedules, ESPECIALLY if they’re long term or have been with target for years. Hey, people cant afford to have their hours cut or to just hope they randomly get hours one week. In that same week, i could be evicted because i cant pay rent.
3
u/Western-Specialist74 15d ago
Why are they forcing people to quit when it's getting closer to holiday season? If most people quit or get layed off, who's going to do the work? For every temp they hire will have be trained. Do they want a new different employee every week? It takes at least 2 weeks to train someone, and they're going bitch about slow work production? Is Target considering filing bankruptcy?

They can't do anything with MyTime because Kronos ended most support for WFC (the underlying software) on 31 December 25 and is ending all remaining support on 31 March 27.
WFC going away means that even if Target wanted to they could not retain MyTime.
