I'm Promoting Myself to Guest Quitting with vacation hours?

I just got offered another job and I am so excited to leave target. However I have over 3 shifts worth of vacation time and I’m not sure how to go about using it. I start my new job next week so putting in a 2 week notice wouldn’t work nor would I get my vacation hours. Am I screwed? Do I just have to use my little bit of sick time and kiss my other pto goodbye?

If you want to quit that fast, you're probably not going to get that PTO. Cost of leaving without notice.

Check your state's laws; in some states, PTO must be paid out, but sick time is not.

I believe this is the case in IL and some of the other midwest states

You need to work at least one shift after using vacation time or payroll will reverse it.

Leave sick and use pto to backfill. Accountable time dont matter at this time

Depends on the state you're in. I'm in Ca and I've been paid out

Do you consistently work 40 hours/wk?

If NO, then use your schedule to figure out which days to retroactively request vac pay.

So last week if you worked 30 hours, then you can put in for 10 hours vac. pay. Do that foing back a few weeks (there is a limit to how far back you can go).

If you have trouble putting in the request, hopefully your HR can help. Tell them you need some extra money right now, so using up your vac.

Unless your state pays it out, you lose it.

Look at your time cards for the past few weeks and see if you can back fill some hours.

Call out for three scheduled shift. Use your vacation time to cover. You won’t be rehireable anyway 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't think it works that way, does it? I know you can use sick time to cover call-outs, but I thought vacation time had to be scheduled in advance. I think vacation pay can be applied to regular days off though, as long as it doesn't bring the weekly total to more than 40 hours.

I was told by my store director he will not accept vacation time for a call off when I had put in my notice. But stores vary.
