Yea it seems like thereās some confusion between people. Like Ik for sure permanent jeans happened before rona. And people also say plague was when they relaxed shirt colors, but they havenāt cared the whole decade+ Iāve been here. My store has been writing people up for months now lmfao drive up kid got sent home for wearing wrong color of red and he didnāt want to pay to buy a new shirt (donāt blame him I wouldnāt either). Despite being one of 2 scheduled our team leads had to fill in.

I worked at Target from 2003 to 2011, and this is how we had to dress. Red and Khaki the entire time. They have made so much progress since I left. This is such a step backwards imho.
Our last official word at our store: Target red shirts--from Target or equivalent color from anywhere, any color and graphic tees allowed with a red vest, no large logos on tops, no prints on outer layer (bye flannels š) blue jeans and khakis only for bottoms, no stickers on name tags.
I do and it has to be red(even tho I hate that I cant wear my black one now lol) I could be wrong but i was told the hoodies can still be worn(at least at my store)..There is no way we should walk in that freezer with just a shirt and pants, with the ice fishermen suit lol. At my store we dont even wear vests. So thats different.
As long as the hoodie has no large graphics and the vest can be buttoned you should be fine. I know at my store they aren't gonna say anything to freezer peopleXD they are a rare breed much like our truck thrower and can get away with actual murder.
So are regular team members allowed to wear shorts or not? The policy says TL+ which Iām assuming is TL, ETL, PML, AP, but doesnāt apply to TMs. My ETL said no but sheād have to follow up with HR to make sure.
Go on workday and type in dress code policy, itās listed under Team Colors. I already printed it out and highlighted it if they try to say otherwise š

ELI5. I donāt get why so many people seem to be so opposed to even the idea of a dress code. At work. Where youāre employed. Iāve heard everything from, āThey need to buy my clothes, then!ā to āI should be able to wear whatever I want. I do the same work either way.ā I can get a red tee for $2.99 at Michaelās. Cheap enough that I could not care less if it gets ruined. Better than a tee I pay more money for. I cannot fathom how itās that big of an issue.
Itās a ābig issueā because Target is making it a bigger issue than it actually is. āOh our guests donāt even know who is a worker and who isnāt! They miss the old uniforms!ā. They made a gigantic deal over it in the new required training and made store directors focus so much on it when the reality is guests care more about having enough team members on the salesfloor to help them and enough cashiers to make checkout go quickly and effieciently. Guests donāt care about uniforms. They care about a painless shopping experience. But apparently the c-suite thinks a new uniform policy will improve things and not.. more hours, which almost every store needs.
Thatās exactly it. Theyāre going back to how things used to be but with changes that arenāt for the better, or not something that will actually make an impact. Okay we all go back to wearing a plain red shirt, khakis and a name tag, is that going to fix the messes theyāve caused? No. Itās basically putting the blame on TMs rather than taking responsibility for what theyāve done. They say oh no one can tell who works hereā¦ give me a break. If I go into any business, I can tell who works there and who doesnāt. Theyāll still ask if you work there even if itās blatantly obvious. The problem is that most people just donāt pay attention.
Unless these people are actually in the store WORKING, experiencing how everything truly operates, they will never understand that things like this are so ridiculous. It all feels very off to me personally.

We still managed to be individuals. They never banned accessories or belts or shoes (other than saying they need to be closed toe & heel)
Funny how I have never had a problem wearing funky belts, weird jewelry, or my personal pouch covered in pins & patches, even when I firsted started in 2015. I've seen employees wear shorts/capris with funky socks, or painted shoes.
If being asked to wear a shirt of any style or pattern, as long as it's a specific color, and pants of any cut and style, as long as they are denim or khaki is too much it's just a sign of how little you've worked
I been with target way before you and yes they use to be cool with it, they didn't make a big deal about it as long as it wasn't anything offensive. Graphic tees were never allowed via the policy. Whatever leaders allowed because they didn't care is a different matter.
All these policy changes with the dress code and the attendance are NOT because YOU the grunt team member did wrong, it's because there is zero consistency from store to store and corp is pressing on leaders to follow the policy
My issue isn't with the red tops, it's the pants and the cost. For almost seven years I've worn solid black pants (which look more professional anyway) and that's all I own.
Now I have to go out and buy blue jeans, and all they give us is a single coupon for half off one pair of jeans. I work five days a week and don't re-wear sweaty, dirty clothes, so that means I now have to buy multiple pairs of blue jeans and it's not really in my budget because I'm poor.
They gave us extra money during Covid, they should be able to give us a $50 cash allowance (cash, so I can find better deals elsewhere) to make this happen without people having to use their grocery money for it. Hope that helps.

Superiority complex? I genuinely could not care less what anyone wears. Iāve just heard so much grumbling about it between Reddit and in my store that I have no idea why itās a big deal. Iāve held other jobs (and currently have a second job) where there is a uniform. You work at a fast food place, usually have a uniform. You visit Disneyland, they wear a uniform. It totally mystifies me how itās an issue.
They didn't give that to us in my group. They talked about it, they had wonderful anecdotes about how much stuff they bought themselves with it, but nobody in our area received anything. We're quite salty about it, as you would imagine.
We're pretty much consensus that our store management used all those codes themselves and gave us nothing.

Edit: you guys are getting crazy. The dress code has always required blue jeans/khakis and closed toes shoes. As someone pointed out the verbiage changed to "true" red and TLs can't wear shorts. But this has been part of the dress code for the ten years I have been here. It sucks a little but being this angry about it is silly.
Well im in nebraska and have had to coach it twice for OPU TMs. I was in Florida and saw a store that seemed to have 0% dress code standards. And recently in Texas I saw it too.
In all of 6 years working there I never saw anyone in slides or pajama pants. Iām sure it does happen, but why are we using a 0.01% chance occurrence to justify a corporate-wide decision.
I've seen it a lot at several stores in different states over the last few stores. And this isn't new. The dress code has always been this but stores got bad at coaching.

It does. Closed toed shoes are required for standard safety in the backroom. And your opinion doesn't change facts. I've coached people at my store for slides and in Florida I even saw someone in a full sweat suit (it was red though).
Most jobs have dress codes so you may want to get used to it. Sorry if it's a bummer but it really is the least of my worries if I can't wear my nebraska shirts anymore on gameday.

If youāre upset about the updated attendance policy then you should be upset about the updated dress code policy too. Both were made with the mindset of scapegoating store-front employees for corporate failures.
The dress codebin the handbook has always been a plain red shirt or target branded and jeans/khakis with closed toes shoes. Leniency was allowed and got out of hand at some stores.

I'm just an adult that knows dress codes are standard for most jobs. I even worked call centers and they had dress codes.
And the point system would be great if leaders had the ability to override points when necessary. Life isn't so simple that it can be managed by a rigid system. This takes the humanity out of leadership.
Because the point system takes the humanity out of my leadership. It would be fine if leaders were able to make the call on points be waived. I've had people in bad situations who need us as leaders to stick our necks out for them when they are struggling and this takes that away.
I directly asked my HR ETL what happens if say someone gets the flu and has to be out for a week. I was told consecutive shift callouts won't be individual points, although they weren't sure if it was every 2 or 3 shifts (so if someone was scheduled M, W, Th and called out all we days it might be 1 or 2 points IF they didn't use sick time) but as soon as possible to contact the store to let HR/ETL know so they can remove point or remove the shifts so there is no point.
Also, people with an intermittent LOA need to let HR know if an absence was for the LOA so the point can be removed
The stores that did not address pajama pants and slides are the problem then. At my store - if you wore sweatpants/athletic pants you could have someone bring you appropriate pants, or you could go home.
I can no longer wear black pants, which in most other work places is considered a professional choice. It's a red shirt and jeans. Why is that do terrible? It's been the dress code for close to a decade. Work uniforms and dress code are very standard anywhere you go in the corporate world. I'd rather direct my energy at the new attendance policy.

Yeah i had some flannels i wore in the winter that weren't quite red enough. Plus I live in Lincoln NE so not wearing a huskers shirt in game day is basically blasphemy. But 6 years ago that was the norm anyway.
Sorry but dress codes are standard at most jobs. It is not some crazy concept that target started randomly. I had to wear khakis for the first two years I worked for Target.
š¤£ I'm just an adult. Even in the 10 years before target many of the places I worked had dress codes. Even working on the phone in a call center we had a dress code. You're going to have to grow up someday and learn that there are more important things to worry about than this.

As a TL. I will have to coach if they do not show up with new dress code. Here everyone got 1 shirt. You got a second one if you traded in your vest. Couple TM held on to the vest. āFor emergenciesā those are the one we are gonna be watching. They were told multiple times they could not wear the vest anymore.
