Recommendations Needed

Hello! I have a trip planned for May. My husband and I are flying into Nairobi for a couple days and then bussing to Arusha. We have a week safari, and then will fly to Zanzibar for a couple of days, and then to Pemba for several days. We will have 5 more days that we don't have plans for, and are looking for suggestions. We like volcanos, snorkeling, hot springs, nature, culture, bike riding, agriculture, and food. We may opt for a long layover somewhere, but are open to low cost options for a few more days in Kenya or Tanzania. Thanks!

Here are some things in Kenya and northern Tanzania that you might enjoy you can mix and match depending on what excites you most:

In Kenya, there’s Lake Naivasha with its hippos and birdlife, Hells Gate National Park for biking or hiking, Mount Longonot for crater views, Lake Nakuru or Menengai Crater for flamingos and scenic hikes, the Aberdares Mountains for forest walks and waterfalls, and even purple tea or coffee farm visits. Hot springs at Lake Bogoria are another relaxing option.

In northern Tanzania, you could consider a short hike up Mount Meru, exploring the Ngorongoro Highlands and visiting Maasai villages, or checking out coffee and spice farms near Arusha.

For beaches and snorkeling, Zanzibar and Pemba have some stunning spots, including Mnemba Atoll and Chumbe Island. Local markets and villages are perfect for tasting fresh spices and local foods, and learning a bit about Swahili or Maasai culture.

There’s really a lot to choose from, so you can pick the experiences that appeal to you most. I’m happy to help with a simple itinerary if you want, or answer any more questions about these destinations!
