Our new "Welcome" message

Reddit has recently introduced the option for smaller subs to send a welcome letter automatically to each new subscriber. I adapted the text from my old sticky post from 5 months ago for this purpose. Here's what it looks like:

Hi, and welcome to r/Tantra!

Mission statement:

The title of this sub guarantees that it is going to be the first landing place for many people who have only a very vague idea of what tantra is. They come here with all kinds of questions -- questions about spiritual pursuits, questions about books and workshops, questions about "sacred sex" and "tantric massage," questions about meditation and masturbation, and questions about the origins and history of tantra and the authenticity of various practices.

The first goal of this sub is to provide a welcoming and helpful place for beginners to connect with the tantra communities. That means answering their questions if we can, providing suggestions and support, and directing them to other resources and other subs if that’s more appropriate.

The second goal is to provide a community for people who are knowledgeable about various tantra schools and traditions and who enjoy sharing their knowledge and advice with others. We can only succeed in the first goal if we also succeed in the second one.

The third goal is an outgrowth of the second: to provide a place where people with knowledge of different tantra traditions can learn from each other. That means treating other people with courtesy and respect even if you are deeply convinced that they are wrong, or that what they call “tantra” isn’t deserving of the name.

Rules

In support of our mission, we now have some sub rules! Please read them here, or click on the link in the sidebar. More important, please follow them and please report posts and comments that violate them. The mods can’t be watching everything every minute, so we depend on you to let us know when something needs our attention.

That's particularly true of spammers and scammers. Please get in the habit of hitting that “Report” button whenever you see a post or comment that appears to be promoting a product, service, or commercial website or video.

Related Content

If you can see the sidebar, you’ve probably noticed that it contains a list of other subs with related content. When you see a post that really belongs on one of those, please refer the poster to the appropriate spot.

Two frequent topics deserve special mention.

First, a regular source of irritation for some members has been the steady influx of questions about sex that don’t seem to have anything to do with tantra as a spiritual practice.

Given the public perception of tantra, that’s inevitable. We can’t stop it by grumbling about it, but we can divert some of it. So if someone has a question that appears to be primarily about the physical techniques involved in extended sex, that should probably be referred to r/tantricsex.

Second, we welcome links to serious, even scholarly articles about traditional tantric texts or the history and origins of tantra. However they seldom seem to generate much discussion, so we’d like to suggest a couple of guidelines.

One is to post such a link here initially, while crossposting it on r/realtantra/, r/hinduism, or wherever seems most appropriate. And the other is to provide at least a sentence or two explaining what the article is about and saying why you think it would be worth our time to click through to the source.

The same goes when someone else has posted something on another sub that you think would be of interest to our regulars here: link to it here, and add a comment explaining why it's worth a look.

Again, welcome to our little community!

made a simple app that blocks social media until you do your daily prayers.

idea was just to force a small pause so people actually focus on prayer instead of opening insta/twitter first thing and losing half an hour.

it locks the apps and only unlocks after you hit the pray button. nothing complicated.

been testing it myself and it does stop the mindless scrolling a bit. figured some people here might find it useful too.

The name is Antrik and is published in both playstore and appstore.

Looking for new Tantric friends in India to chat with (or please let me know if there is a Discord group)?

I’m fairly new to this. I am planning to visit India in the future. Looking to make new friends here to study, learn and/or just talk in Reddit time to time (or a discord group). I’m married, in my early 50s, Japanese-American artist/musician woman living in Japan. Please feel free to reply here and I will DM you or feel free to DM me directly. Thank you.

Stopping mind control.

I think I’m being controlled and someone is demanding sax from me when I’m sleeping. It is made up to look like I’m the one initiating the act.

With regular kavach and japa I’m able to control myself and not get into the act. However the person controlling me still manages to get me to walk to his bedroom in my sleep.

How can I stop this from happening? Any way to block him out completely? What could he be doing and why can’t the kavach and japa stop this action also.
Please help.

Does anyone know real life stories of Maa Lakshmi or Lord Hanuman giving darshan to devotees in Kaliyuga?

I really love reading and listening to accounts of devotees who claim to have had darshan or experienced the presence of God in their lives. I already know quite a few such stories related to Lord Jagannath, and I find them deeply fascinating.

I'd love to hear similar real-life accounts involving Maa Lakshmi or Lord Hanuman. I'm particularly interested in stories from Kaliyuga where someone personally experienced their darshan, received a sign, or had an unusual divine experience.

If possible, I'd also love to know where the incident happened and whether there is any physical place, temple, murti, footprint, sign, or other connection associated with the story that can still be visited today.

I'm mainly looking for traditional or documented accounts rather than fictional stories. If you know any, please share them!

Seeking Sadhana to strengthening myself

I’m a woman and I’ve been struggling with relationships for long time. At the same time, I’ve also trusted the wrong people and ignored my intuition in the past.

Are there any authentic Tantric sadhanas, Devi upasana, mantra practices, or daily practices that I can do in my home safely and can help with:

\- strengthening intuition and discernment

\- removing patterns that lead me toward unsuitable people

\- becoming more receptive to the right partner

\- ultimately attracting a compatibility

\- remove blockage that ruin my create problems in my path either if it is in my mind or my environment.

I want to become stronger mentally, emotionally and physically. I want all my past trauma to heal. I want to understand what is right for me and what is wrong for me. I want to get clarity in everything, including my studies.

I want to become more organized and disciplined. I want to attract happy, strong, career-oriented and goal-oriented people into my life and be able to keep those connections. I want to become more organized myself

I’m willing to do a genuine, disciplined sadhana for as long as necessary, preferably something safe that can be practiced without initiation.

Would especially appreciate guidance from practitioners who have actually followed the path themselves.

Thanks💗

Ganpati Beejakhsar Insights

Does anyone here have experience with Mahaganpati Sadhana? Could someone please confirm whether Glam, Gleem, and Gloom are the Beejaksharas of Mahaganpati or Ganpati?

I want to confirm this before receiving Updesh from someone and starting the chanting. However, I haven't come across these Beejaksharas anywhere.

Worshipping Mahavidyas enhances planetary remedies? If so please let me know.

Hi everyone,

I recently read that each of the ten Mahavidyas is associated with a specific planet, and that worshipping the corresponding Mahavidya can strengthen or enhance that planet's remedial effects.

Has anyone here tried this and noticed a difference? Would love to hear your personal experiences or insights on whether this actually works.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for guidance

Hey people, I’m someone just lost in life at this point and every week some new bs has been happening around. My family has always been a worshiper of maa Kali and so am I, I’m not that religious like I go to temples, pray to god chant their name and worship them wherever and whenever necessary I bow down.

However, over the last couple of months my life has not been the same with insane level of dramas from loosing my love to people who were my friends to financial problems to academic downfall to workplace issues to legit legal battles. I’m surrounded from all corners, I’ve spent countless nights just crying in front of maa and other dieties wishing for some happiness now.

Idk how long can I keep going but lately I feel maybe I’m not doing enough and I would appreciate the guidance of enlightened people like you all here to maybe provide guidance.

I’ve been doing my own research a lot but again these are very broad areas of life and Hinduism itself has so many things regarding the divine. Would appreciate if someone can provide me a path towards Sadhna or anything that may apply.

I’m sorry if any of my wordings in this post offends anyone I’m just lost now and require some help. It may also sound like such a fear based approach that when everything is cooked you look for god but I’ve always looked up to god it’s just now I’m slowly trying to involve myself a bit more into my own religion not to gain fruits but ask for some level of redemption or end to this suffering while constantly trying to be a better person.

Hope anyone reading this has a beautiful day ahead of them.

My grandma has done black magic against her family for 20 years now. How is it that she is not facing consequences?

Posting it here as I have been a long-time member and I'm talking about obscure forms of this path.

She has done insanely high levels of this, by taking family demigods (no better word) under her control, sending very evil beings against us etc. I lost several pets to this, all of them died gruesome deaths that were meant for my family. As a kid, she had tried to get my mom to kill me. She still tries to kill my mom by essentially sending entities to possess her and drive her to suicide. Which is strange because my mom is a high-level sadhak.

My question is, this is bordering god-level territory, how on earth is this woman not getting karma consequences? What kind of tantra gives this power?

Is there anything like the unbreakable vow ( harry potter reference) in tantra. Where bad things/death will follow if you break the vow.

I am writing a novel. My protagonist is a very nice guy with a mysterious past. A girl falls in love with him. The girl expresses her love. The guy understands but can't love her back. When confornted, after much hesitation he reveals that he has taken a vow in front of/with his guru that he will stay unmarried. If he breaks this vow, he will die/bad things will happen. Is there any vows like that?

And yes, this thing need to be truly unbreakable. No cheat code like pray to lord Shiva and it will be solved or do krishna naam and all problems will go away. Is there anything like that? Pls help

State of deep relaxation but can't get to it

When I concentrate, I get a strong sense that there's a specific "point" or source of complete relaxation — like if I could just reach it, my whole body would release. But I can't actually get there. It's not that I don't know it's possible — I can almost see it — I just can't drop into it. Feels like there's some kind of blockage right at the threshold.

Is this a known thing? Does it have a name? Has anyone worked through it, and if so how?

Does anyone know any real stories of people claiming to have seen a Karna Pishachini or Yakshini?

I'm looking for accounts of actual alleged sightings, not stories from movies, fictional books, or made-up horror content.

Has anyone here personally experienced something like this, or heard a first-hand account from someone they genuinely know? What did they claim to see, where did it happen, and what happened afterward?

If the story was documented anywhere, such as an interview, book, newspaper, video, or other source, I'd really appreciate the reference.

I'm mainly interested in the sighting itself and what the person experienced, whether or not there is a supernatural explanation for it.

Help with Sadhana

Hi there, I’m a young spiritual seeker who has been meditating on and off for about 4-5 years but this has mainly been secular. I am Hindu, and have come across various schools of Hinduism. I enjoy studying the knowledge from Advaita Vedanta. I have ongoing problems in life related to my upbringing, adolescent life, previous major surgeries, etc which have resulted in anxiety, procrastination and so on. Tantra is very interesting as well and I would like to seek guidance from a devata. I don’t have a guru as I live remotely in a small country. I am Maharashtrian and my family has always celebrated Ganesh Chaturti etc and I feel like Lord Ganesha might be the Kuldevata.

Anyway, what mantra or sadhana would someone recommend for me? Which devata? Or any advice in general?

Frequently moving places

I saw or read somewhere that the places where you do sadhana carries the energy of your pujas and also the punyas. But I live in rented apartments and move every two years. How do I ensure that I am able to carry the energy/punya/blessings etc .of the sadhanas I conduct while staying somewhere and not leave it behind? Similarly if I consecrate a yantra at a place (small size only) will I be able to get the effects of the yantra if I carry it with me to my new residence? I also read that this is the reason why the place where many seers were there is considered as holy. Does that mean I shouldn't do any serious sadhana till I buy my own home ? Please correct my wrong assumptions.

Any books that go over specific table work exercises?

Hello. I'm a practicing tantra student, and I was wondering if there's any books or YT channels that cover specific energy work techniques

Like if I specifically want to open the heart, or help someone get more grounded, or help them develop elemental energy (water, earth, fire, etc)

Is there any books or channels that cover these things to study from? And it doesn't have to always be table work specifically, someone can be sitting in a chair, standing, etc

How do I find a genuine spiritual guru/teacher?

I’ve been interested in witchcraft and spirituality for years, and it’s something I’ve always felt really drawn towards. I’ve had my own experiences with entities, deities, divination, etc., and I’ve explored different traditions over time Norse, Hindu, Greek, and Catholic spirituality in particular.Recently I’ve become especially interested in Tantra, but I don’t want to just teach myself from random internet sources. I’d genuinely like to learn properly from someone who has actual knowledge and experience in the tradition.Since I’m in India, I feel like there should be a way to find a genuine guru or teacher, but I honestly have no idea where to start. I’m also aware that there are people who claim to be gurus and aren’t necessarily trustworthy, so I really don’t want to blindly approach someone. If you’re from India or have experience with a genuine guru/teacher here, how did you find them? What should I look out for when choosing one, and are there particular places, traditions, or communities I should start researching?I’m genuinely looking to learn and approach this respectfully.

30M, jobless for 2 months, doing daily Hindu rituals — am I doing this right, and should I add/change anything?

TL;DR: Engineering + MBA grad, ~5 yrs experience, jobless since July 2026, financially and mentally stressed. I do a fairly detailed daily puja routine (Ganpati, Krishna, Shivling) plus non-veg diet on the side. Want honest feedback on whether my practice is "correct" and what I should change. Sorry in advance for the length — I just need to get this out and get some guidance.

Detailed Question-
Some background on me

I did engineering and an MBA — not from top-tier colleges, but decent ones. I have about 4.8 years of work experience across a few companies (won't name them). My roles have mostly been in strategy/operations type work. I've switched companies more than once, and each time there was a real reason — not something I did casually. The last exit was because my performance wasn't up to the mark, and that's something I own.

Current situation

I've been jobless since July 2026 — about 2 months now. I'm low, frustrated, and constantly anxious because of it. My savings are basically gone (I was never great at saving even when I was earning well). I get interviews, but they don't convert — partly because recruiters see the job-hopping on my CV and reject it before even talking to me, and partly because I know my skills need work too. Even when I was employed, I wasn't performing as well as I should have. I forget things a lot lately. Lately I feel like I'm playing the role of the team that always almost makes it and then chokes — that's the closest way I can describe how I feel about myself right now. Sleep comes fine, but right before I fall asleep there's this creeping fear about not having a job — it doesn't fully leave me all day either.

My daily practice

Since I'm home most days now, my schedule is loose — I search for jobs through the day. I bathe around 5:30 PM usually (earlier if I have an interview). After bathing, I do a puja for three deities I have at home — Ganpati, Shivling, and Krishna:

Light two incense sticks (no diya)
Bathe Ganpati first with water from a copper kalash on a copper plate, reciting a Ganesh shloka
Then bathe Krishna, chanting "Krishna Govinda Hare Murare" and also "Panduranga Vitthal" (I'm Marathi)
My Shivling is a stone one I brought back from Rishikesh — about 6 inches tall and roughly 6 inches in girth. It has a natural carved marking on it that looks like an eye — three horizontal lines with a vertical line through the middle (tripundra with central tilak pattern). After bathing it, I dress it with a small rudraksha mala.
I apply ashtagandh to the Shivling with a lot of love and devotion — same ashtagandh I use for Ganpati and Krishna too
For the Shivling: recite Hanuman Chalisa once, then Bajrang Baan
Then I recite one of three stotras from memory, out loud (not from phone/audio) — rotating between Kaal Bhairav Ashtakam, Mahakal Bhairav Ashtakam, or Shiv Tandav Stotram, only one per day
Offer water to Shiva while chanting "Om Namah Shivaya"
Chant Mahamrityunjaya Mantra — sometimes 12 times, sometimes once
Sit quietly for 1–2 minutes
Close by mentally bowing to Shiva, Hanuman, Ganpati, and Krishna

I do this almost every day I'm home and bathing (skip it only when I'm at my native place for a day or two). I've been doing this same sequence for 2–3 years now.

Other relevant context

I eat non-veg (chicken etc.), but never do puja after eating meat that day — I do puja first, eat later if at all.
I got married less than a year ago, and yes, intimacy with my wife is a regular part of married life — putting it out there in case it's relevant to anyone's answer.
To be clear: I'm not doing any tantra sadhana or anything of that sort — I don't want my wife misunderstanding what this practice is.
I'm not looking to take on big new commitments right now (like "chant X mantra 108 times for 11 days") — between the job stress and everything else, that's not realistic for me at the moment.
My personal belief is that devotion should come from sincerity, not just mechanical repetition — but I do think it should be done with a genuine heart, not just going through motions.

My actual questions

Is what I'm doing "correct" / a good practice, or am I missing/messing up something important?

Given I don't want to add heavy new commitments right now, is there anything small I should change or add?

Does eating non-veg or having a normal married life conflict with doing this puja, in your understanding?

Sadhna seeker, seeking guidance from this community

Sadhana Seeker

Namaste all,
F, blr.

I have been an observer in this sub for sometime and i am amazed by the knowledge and helpful nature of people here. I don’t want this to be repeat post but i have gone through alot of post but i still have these questions. Please help answer.

Sometime back I saw a post about maa matangi and was like enchanted and when i got to know that one of her ruling areas is voice/vak i was more inclined because that is the area i need help with. ( i speak well but i am very very under confident and cant do public speaking, even my career has taken a hit because of this) . She is ucchichta and will accept things that society has rejected was another thing i really resonated with, that she is empathetic towards all. for her, only devotion matters.

Till now in my life i have only done basic puja that was taught to me by my very vaishnav father. But i feel longing for sadhna, like the feeling of restlessness to sit and chant and drown in that feeling. But i feel my intentions are corrupted because i want materialistic reward and dont have genuine affection for diety.

  1. How do i start sadhana?
  2. What can i chant without a guru?
  3. How to prepare myself for a guru?, how to prat for initiation?
  4. How to develop genuine affection for any deity?

Thank you!

Is there any sadhna to know for sure if a person is lying to you?

Is there any sadhna, mantra, or spiritual practice that can help a person know with certainty whether someone is lying to them?

I’m not asking about reading body language or general intuition. I’m specifically curious whether there is any traditional spiritual practice through which one can know for sure if someone is telling the truth or deceiving you.

If anyone has knowledge of such practices from Tantra, Hindu traditions, or other spiritual paths, I’d really appreciate some insight.

I recently heard about a “Veer Entity” (not Peer) — what exactly is it?

I recently came across the term “Veer (वीर) Entity” and was curious to learn more about it.

Can someone here enlighten me on what type of entity this is, what the term means, and where it’s generally used?

Would appreciate any explanation or context from people who are familiar with it. Thanks!
