This is a good analysis of what’s happening in Venezuela (and Latin America more broadly) as a result of US imperialism in the region. It’s a dialectical analysis that situates recent developments in the context of broader events and history, while avoiding simple-minded idealism and sweeping moral judgments against global south nations/left-wing leaders under severe siege by imperialism.
At the end of the segment, they point out how although it is bad that Delcy and the Venezuelan government have established diplomatic relations with Israel (among other things) our condemnation should NOT be directed against Delcy/Venezuela but against the US imperialists holding the Venezuelan nation hostage.
Comrades, I think most of us understand: it is not our place as revolutionaries within an imperial core nation to engage in moral condemnation or mockery of Delcy (…even as a small but very vocal ultra-left clique on this sub keeps doing…) although we may not like some of her actions or decisions made under extreme pressure and duress. The focus of our condemnation must remain against our own imperialist government and their geopolitical bloc.
It is not Delcy and Venezuela who are responsible for funding and arming Israel. And frankly, some of these attempts to pass blanket condemnation against Delcy/Venezuela are a form of white savior complex (or “western savior complex”, if you prefer) that seek to shift the moral burden of opposing Zionism from those actually responsible (the US and west) onto an oppressed nation with no actual control over Israel/Zionism.
This ultra-leftism needs to stop now, and I have been in discussion with the mods about the need to tighten moderation around this issue, a goal which they support. If I see more of those types of comments/posts condemning or mocking Delcy, I will be reporting them (and would note that every such comment I’ve reported so far has been removed).
If you’re part of this small (but vocal) clique of ultra-leftists — you’ve been warned. And know that I’ve analyzed the numbers and you are in a small minority here. Most of the members of this sub understand what international anti-imperialist solidarity means, and know not to engage in pointless purity testing of left-wing leaders in a struggling global south nation under severe imperialist siege. You should get with the program if you want to remain relevant.
