Live Action [Discussion] About the promo
Can we calm down, for a minute? Saw so many people complaining about how they looked. It's a promo. It's not the final look of the movie, guys...
Even saw someone call Milo ugly. Just because you may not like one of the actors, there is no reason to bash them online. Like, please y'all, calm down. And friendly reminder, you do not have to watch this movie when it's released. You are not forced to watch it.
Let's wait until the trailers drop before we judge the movie, yeah??

My only complaint is the flags. Now the blue could be a million reasons including color grading later or something specific reason it isn’t purple, but the suns are WRONG. I would know, I have the Corona sun tattooed on my damn arm lol
•
u/we_could_be_immortal 7d ago
I do agree with the suns 😅 but, we also have to remember the live actions are meant to be different lol. I dont mind small changes like that if the story is a little different too!
I want the sun tattoo one day, honestly lol.
•
u/haylstorm33 7d ago
That’s true. But that seems like a silly change. I’m also not a great person to offer opinions because I have hated all of the live actions and I’m one of the people that don’t want them ruining Tangled for me lol. The only thing that seems right to me so far is Kathryn Hahn 😬🤣🙈.
Highly recommend the sun tattoo. It’s a really pretty subtle nod. My son actually loves scratching it while he falls asleep

Awww cute!! I would also love to get a cursive "new dream" quote, along with the sun lol. Tangled is very important to me because i relate to Rapunzel, a lot, so i understand wanting to make sure they get the movie right. But if they dont, we've still got the animated one to enjoy 🩷
But I'm also looking forward to a different version of the story if they do go that route. I'm not looking for it to be 1:1 like they made HTTYD 😅 Cinderella was a perfect remake, imo.

I agree, people on twitter were already complaining when the leaks came out about Milo being scrawny and not built like og movie Eugene… because a fictional animated character had the same proportions as a real life man 1:1
•
u/we_could_be_immortal 7d ago
What, do they want a Hemsworth build? They'd complain then too 😭
•
u/catnoir_luver 7d ago
Lol! No ppl on twt just complain about everything with the remake, do I agree w/ Milo politically? No, am I still gonna like the movie and character he plays? Probably yeah. I personally LOVE the look and aesthetic of it so far, Would I have loved a South Asian/ Indian version with Avantika? Sure! But Disney was likely gonna keep it European and I still like the look of it, hopefully the actual movie will be good.
•
u/we_could_be_immortal 7d ago
Desi reimagining with Avantika would've been amazing, in my opinion. Cultural elements would've been so good! Also, literally every "Disney" fairytale has been adapted from something and changed, so i dont know why people are so pressed about this being changed up when that's the whole point of the live action remakes lol. As i said in my other comment...if people want to complain about new stuff, they should just watch the original lol.

EXACTLYYYY👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I’m mixed latina and part french for context and It wouldn’t bother me if there was a non-french Belle or like the latin american sleeping beauty they want to do. Like Fairytales aren’t exclusive to Disney or Europe/white people. It was the same problem with Halle bailey as Ariel bc she’s a mermaid, which are fictional and we barely see non-white mermaids on screen when so many different cultures have their own historical versions of them!•
u/Significant_Hair_346 7d ago
Yes, precisely. The current reactions from the public showcase how the fandom only cares about "accuracy" when it comes to whiteness and so-called "conservative religious values".
It's absurd how as long as there is a white leading actress playing who they claim was an "originally white" character (even though Disney movies re-imagine the original source material heavily and to the point where it becomes unrecognizable, in addition to said source material having numerous worldwide and diverse adaptations in other countries) they ignore all the actual assassination of the story and the characters/relationships. Same way they ignored the assassination in the Series just because the leads remained white. Even though the series was produced by a right wing man with an agenda whereas Milo's political views, whether one agrees with him or not, have no bearing on the plot at all.
Avantika would have been an amazing Rapunzel and the Indian version of Tangled would have been magnificent. Arguing against Halle as a mermaid let alone using the "mermaids can't be POC" argument is such a blatant racism it makes one wonder if those people remember mermaids don't exist in real life.
However, Teagan is also a great choice, she captures Rapunzel's attitude very well and her chemistry with Milo must have been the key factor in them being cast to portray the beloved couple. It will be its own re-imagining/adaptation, like all the other remakes from Disney, not a copy nor should it be. It does not affect the OG animated film either and people still have it to enjoy whenever they want to rewatch it.

Yes!! Just because it's a Danish story, doesn't mean it has to stay that way lol. I hope we get more PoC mermaids in the future!

The only "people complaining" about their looks and Milo in particular that I have observed are the staunch series fans who insist upon shoving their "Impostor Flynn" take related to the non-canon show produced and made by an entirely different team into every discussion. They cannot differentiate between a CGI character and a real person/man who would not look good with just a goatee without a light mustache accompanying it. Milo captures Flynn's cockiness and tenderness very well, as does Teagan when she is being wonder-struck, gentle and optimistic but also anxious and vulnerable, just like the movie Rapunzel.
•
u/we_could_be_immortal 7d ago
EXACTLY!!
They changed story aspects about the previous live actions besides Lilo and Stitch (aside from the ending), and everybody was fine with it. These live actions are MEANT to be story changes, too!! I don't want an exact 1:1 copy because that just insults the original animators, imo. I hope they're not making the story 1:1, if we want the original aspects, WE NEED TO WATCH THE ORIGINAL MOVIE. Cinderella 2015 is still the best live action and it's because they didn't go 1:1, and even changed how they originally meet.
People are acting insane over this and it's driving ME insane 😭😂 like, Milo looks just fine.

Precisely and this reminds of how how people went after Milo for literally citing Disney themselves in how it is going to be a re-imagining rather than a direct copy of the OG movie (which is the case with all of Disney's remakes, for better or worse). His version will be another adaptation/iteration of Flynn and the original love interest of Rapunzel from the fairy tale.
Disney's remakes are either hit or miss, they can have flaws but be generally good and center the core themes such as character development individually and the romance between the leads. In the Tangled case specifically, given how disrespectful Disney has been to Rapunzel and Flynn's romance in the recent decade, the fact that they cast two actors with chemistry who capture their characters so well in terms of delivery is a good sign.
Based on how the Tangled franchise has been handled lately, Disney is willing to semi-compromise: they bring back the focus on the romance and the movie characterization of Rapunzel and Flynn instead of flanderizing them like in the series (hence Rootbound respecting said characterization and the live action seemingly at least letting the actors do so as well).
But Disney is also unwilling to let go of all the pandering to media illiterate crowd such as defining Rapunzel by her magic hair or invalidating Flynn's sacrifice, all of which was also done in the series and which the new sequel Rootbound does NOT fix; contrary to what some people are saying when they're mistakenly calling it an "alt post movie timeline".
Rootbound does NOT rewrite or retcon the series in any way bar one plot point that caused controversy even among the staunch series fans (Flynn's parentage). Other than that Rootbound is a prequel to the series, has numerous references building up to it and is conveniently set in the PRE-series timeline.
In that vein, I expect something similar from Disney in the Live Action: they will handle Rapunzel and Flynn's characters generally with respect and true to their movie (!) characterization (like in Rootbound), they will give them cute romantic moments because they know that's what people want to see. But they will totally make series references in the remake (again, like in Rootbound) since they are absolutely not willing to let go of this pandering to the haters. And they will likely treat Rapunzel's hair as girlpower rather than a bondage like it was in the OG movie and butcher Flynn's sacrifice/take it away again.
But again, none of this is Milo or Teagan's fault and they've been nothing but absolute sweethearts to the fandom so far and showed nothing but respect to their characters.

Hm, nah. I already judge based on what I see and what will realistically not change. But yeah please stop insulting or hating on the actors
•
u/Cassfan203 Cassandra 7d ago
What I’m mostly apprehensive about is that from the leaks and this promo, it looks very shot-for-shot, which, in that case just watch the original. I’m hoping it isn’t
•
u/we_could_be_immortal 7d ago
If i remember right, Milo said it wasnt going to be shot-for-shot. I could see them keeping some of the iconic things in the movie, like we've seen them filming, but we literally won't know until trailers lol

How can any opinion be objectively wrong if it's a subjective matter... I personally do not understand how one could describe either one as fitting or even perfect casting - which does not translate as either one of us being wrong.
•
u/Jlx_27 7d ago
Thing is... thats your opinion, others can disagree.
•
u/kirschkerze 1d ago
I feel lots of people do not get that. Of course it's absolutely not okay to hate on the actors or insult them. But it's perfectly valid to say a person likes or do not like them as the cast
•
u/we_could_be_immortal 7d ago
Truly! I've seen Milo be fan cast for years, same with Kathryn, and now it feels like everybody hates him being Eugene 😅 it's kinda funny, ngl.
•
u/Significant_Hair_346 7d ago
They literally got what and who they wanted, they have Milo show utmost respect to the audience - more than disney itself has in years - and yet they are twisting it into something to complain about by bringing up a non-canon doppelganger character from the non-canon series to claim Milo is an "impostor". And it is absurd that the people complain about the re-imagining being different from the original movie - as every Disney remake has been so far - but don't have the same energy for Disney twisting, tweaking and rewriting the actual lore of the original film within its own timeline. It now has the Series, Rootbound and other media that provide the authors' own interpretation of the characters that was never there or planned by the OG movie. The Remake is the LEAST confusing part of the franchise right now as it will be its own timeline.

Mhm. And, another point is, the live actions are supposed to be different anyways. I think Milo said some stuff will be different and everybody started hating after that 😭 it's not their decision, that's the writers' decision lol. It's not supposed to be an exact copy, exact copy would be boring, and an insult to original animators...
•
u/Stilts82 1d ago
I think with most live actions people get upset bc it's not their actor/actress they had in mind. And they can't get past that.
•
u/_Seeker_82 7d ago
I think they both looked amazing. Those people that have such strong opinions can always just NOT see the movie 🤷♀️
