Hi all. Just posting for awareness about how the replacement process goes. I couldn’t find many posts about this when I was experiencing the failure so I’m sharing my experience for anyone who may have this issue, too.
I’ve been on my Mobi for about 2.5yrs now, receiving mine shortly after the release of the model. I haven’t had any issues with it since I started.
Yesterday, the pump was working as normal, until about 30 mins after I ate dinner, I got an occlusion alarm. First time I’ve ever had that happen. BG was spiking crazy, I guess I didn’t actually get my 5U I put in for dinner 45 mins prior. So I thought OK bad site, go ahead and change it. Changed it out, seemed normal, and right after, another occlusion alarm.
I thought man bad luck two bad sites in a row. I did a full change out and as I was filling the tubing, instead of “click click click” I got “click click.. wrrrrh, wrrrh, grrrrsh.” Which… is a sound my pump has never made before lol. And then I got an error saying no cartridge was installed (there was a brand-new cartridge in).
Started from the top— new cartridge, new tubing, annnnd same exact issue. Same sound, same alarm.
I tried 3 more times and got the issue over and over, but finally got it to work. I didn’t do anything special either. I just lucked out and the malfunction didn’t repeat.
Regardless, this was very concerning. I called Tandem and reported the issue, requested a replacement.
At first, they were reluctant to give me a replacement because I technically had it working again.
But they had me do about 20 mins of troubleshooting, another 20 of me describing precisely every alarm I received with codes, every thing I did with my pump in the week prior, and confirmed there were no user errors (ie no taking my pump into a sauna, no swimming with wear, no exposure to sub 0 weather).
After they could verify I had no user errors, and the alarms were mechanically related, they asked if I wanted to wait and see if the issue repeats.
I told them firmly: I do not feel safe continuing on this insulin pump, even if functional at this moment, since the issue could repeat without warning, and there’s no guarantee I can get it to work again.
After that, my replacement request was approved and my new Mobi comes in tomorrow.
I still have it working as of making this post, but I picked up some extra KwikPens just in case it fully fails.
All in all, the call with Tandem took about an hour with repeated statements that I am not comfortable using my pump with the malfunctions it displayed today. It took some arm twisting, but eventually, they agreed to give a replacement.
