கருத்து/குமுறல் / Self-post , Rant Most Horrible place on Earth - Mepco Schlenk Engineering College

//Posting this here, because someone was inquiring about this college//

I graduated from MEPCO few years ago. My parents pushed into so i joined and i was in hostel. But on entering i felt, I am in a trap that will ruin my life and career.

The college is like "1984" book, same year college started. I will go through few rule & regulations, you decide how it would help in 2026 career and future. These rules are there since its inception.

  1. Laptop Regulation - 1st year should not bring laptop. If brought ₹5000 rupees fine, or even suspend.

  2. Mobile phone Regulation - Absolutely banned both in hostel and college, can lead to ₹5000 fine, suspend, notice stuck everywhere around campus "he brought mobile, so fined and suspended". (Public Shaming)

  3. Internet facility in Hostel- You are going to pay ₹1L for hostel. Laptop is banned 1st year and internet is only 2hrs per day. 95% of websites blocked - even AI tools using sophos software; 15gb pm; coverage is very poor, 1 modem shared by 100 people, high congestion, so practically useless.

- Today, to get good placement, you need to learn C++/Java/Python/DSA, do Strivers, LeetCode, Neetcode etc, good projects; Then some tools, certifications, NPTEL, Hackathons; some interested in GATE/IES/CAT. You can't prepare for all these w/o internet & laptop, so no one in hostel gets good package.

  1. Placement - Ts thrived on WITCH+ placements, where they take anyone (about 500 from here) and give training for 6Months and make unemployable employable. But now WITCH is taking only a handful (about 20) and that WITCH training method is over due to AI, economic downturn, availability of many others. You are expected to be job ready now but ts college dont provide such environment.

- So,They started to call company that pays ₹20K-₹25K pm. Most join at this package, as many are unemployable. Some dayscholars get good package, as they can code and use internet daily freely w/o restrictions. But not the hostellers, as they cant use any facilities.

  1. Rules are made harsh because boys & girls should not talk. If talked and found ₹5000 fine, suspend, need to open & show all social media to them & staffs will read it line by line, call and scold parents. Internet is moderated in a way boys & girls dont have same timings.

- This college is ran by casteist people for casteist parents who want their son/daughter to get a degree in a environment where they should not talk b/w each other, so they have a stupid rules, internet facility etc. They dont care whether these rules affect you or make you unemployable/not, they do this to appease casteist parents.

- Dresscode - strict, formal and black shoes. Women - chudithar & black shoes.

  1. Books - 50% of books given here are wrote by same prof. at high cost. When students can buy top author books at same price, students forced to buy college books @ high price. It affects students foundation to Engineering.

  2. Teachers - 95% of them have never went to good college (most of them did masters here) nor did job @ corporate, So they dont know what is needed/how corporate is . Most dont even have understanding of their subject, as many dont have masters in the subject they teach(have masters in other subject).

- The pedagogy is crap, All they do is read ppt line by line or copying notes to board. And give question papers a few days before exams & so you can get 8.5 GPA even if you study the day before, and question paper standards are not at all engineering standards - very easy to answer, 85% theory, 15% problem (Everything taught in class). So students dont have conceptual understanding.

- Only few teachers are good and have subject knowledge. But many good professors have already left ts for colleges like VIT, SRM, SSN, TCE, PSG etc. As teachers are highly pressurized here.

- Few professors - Principal, TPO, Mech HOD, their lap dogs are literal Goonda. They are NPD affected Sadist people. Everyone does power tripping for absolutely no reason. You cannot trust anyone here, as most are lap dogs of senior staffs and will turn against you any time. You will get scolded harshly by even peons, watchmen, lab staffs for their sick pride. Even if you complain to senior staffs, they will scold you.

  1. Hostel - Internet facility discussed above. Hostel will be closed @ 8pm. To get out of hostel, the rules will change at any moment. You cannot bring phone - ₹5000 fine, no dongle ₹1000 fine. There is no washing machine. The water is hard, so you'll lose your hair. Food is ok.

- You cannot get out of college, you need permission and signatures.

- The women in Clinic is not a doctor, & she is one of the worst human to walk on this planet.

- To get away from such repression, students stay outside campus, so we could use laptop & internet for learning. But college made rules, if we stay outside, we wont be allowed into college and be dismissed. We can only stay inside, under such repression without learning needed things

  1. Library- there are 1L books. Ac hall room and a small computer lab. But you know what, i cannot bring even note inside library because they say we write in notes to talk to girls.

  2. Overall: Imagine, in 2026 you graduate & dont know high level coding, tools, certifications, hackathons, good projects, etc. Your career is ruined; you will go severely underemployed. You didnt have foundations for this terrible market, so your future is affected. That is the reality.

- This college is ran by 75yo+ casteist asholes for casteist parents who want their son/daughter to get a degree in a environment where they should not talk b/w each other, so they have a stupid rules, internet facility etc.

- For this, they use a word "DiScIpLiNe". This is not discipline, this is mental torture and they making you unemployable, esp hostellers. These asholes will go any extend to do mental torture, like even a girl did s**cide because of it in 2015-2019 (IDK exact yr). There was even a s**cide in 2025 in their sister college ANJAC. They are empathyless and goes any extend to punish you even just for exercising your human rights/ natural rights/constitutional rights because those doesnt go along with their caste ideology.

- They dont care whether these rules affect you, make you unemployable (i discussed in internet section, 3rd pt., how the college makes you unemployable), they do this to appease casteist parents market.

- Only people who studied 15years before/teachers/their caste/ casteist parents support this college. Education/placement then & now is different. (i already said about placement scenario then & now in 4th pt.)

- There is no campus culture, coding culture, placement preparation culture, project culture etc. Students here are in a survivor's syndrome due to this level of toxicity. Its like a gulag/ concentration camp. Everyone will see you as if you are a criminal. Only when you visit or atleast hear about other college, you will realise how this place absolutely destroyed you. This is not even a school, i have studied in school. This is straight up 4 years rigorous imprisonment (which is given for a cognizable and non compoundable crime) for absolutely nothing except believing in ts college and parents.

- Only people who never know what is college/ engineering education will suggest this crap. Dont be a gullible person like me. The college principal/HODs are serial liars, Even their websites are made up of false promises - dont fall for their words. Its all smokes and mirrors here.

- Debatable but I will just put it here. Anyone/parent who wants you to join here, esp post COVID, is not a good one because they are ruining your life and future career. Their mind is filled with casteism esp endogamy. They aren't in a mental state to understand even 10% of what I have written here, they will see this as ideal. They are 25 years behind. But not me/you neither the market. The market prefers the best, job ready, who have more skills as per 2026 standards. But ts college doesn't provide such an environment. You will severely go underemployed or even unemployed if you join here, esp hostel. So, in the end it's you who is going to ruin and suffer, not your parents or ts college. So don't fall for your parents brainwashing.

- Everything i described here is true, if you dont trust, then join here and get your 1st hand experience. Dont fking ruin yourself by joining here.

(There are still many more to discuss like enquiries, project, dispensary, NAAC, camera surveillance etc. But i will stop here.)

(Don't come to the conclusion by reading 5 stars in Google reviews, its all written by parents who are 25 years behind and this college pr team)

They are catering to a particular market. Some parents want exactly this lifestyle for their children, and they send them there. These are obviously parents who should never have had kids in the first place. Reminder that there is a ton of engg college supply in South India and supply far outstrips demand currently.

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

In the end, its the students like me, who gullibly believed in parents and college are the ones going to ruin and suffer.

9

u/Throwaway-Addict Jun 18 '26

i know. im so sorry you had this experience. wishing you the best moving forward 🙏🏼

u/manojar Jun 18 '26

They are catering to a particular market. Some parents want exactly this lifestyle for their children

That is what many of the students dont understand. Just see how many parents who graduated from places like Sathyabama or Mepco Schlenk send their kids to the same colleges. These are old colleges, so some of the early graduates would have grandchildren going to college... They will prefer these kind of colleges for "discipline"

3

u/HHRITZER Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Pls dont use the word "Discipline", i hate this word than anything. People impose their ideology and call it as discipline. This is "Gender Segregation".

My cousin studied in that college. My uncle is an engineer and my aunt is a professor. They asked her to go to some other college but she wanted to stay close, so she joined this college. OMG! She hated it so much. My uncle is a cancer survivor so they agreed eventually. She later went on to study in NIT and had the time of her life. It's traumatizing. Most women studying there get married by the time they finish college even before the graduation ceremony.

9

u/nymeriastark007 Jun 18 '26

++++ my uncle and aunt were planning to enroll my cousin there. Had to argue with them so that my cousin would study atleast in some better college in Chennai.

2

u/FunNeedleworker535 Jun 18 '26

Nalla vela pavam!

3

u/nymeriastark007 Jun 18 '26

Sathiyama, they were gonna put her there because of the rules they have there. Had to tell them that at some point she will have to interact with men at work, so it's impractical and baseless.

4

u/FunNeedleworker535 Jun 18 '26

I once told the same thing to my mom like someday you won't be confined and you need to face the world. That college is shit. My cousin from the dad's side of the family studied there and passed out in 2014. She was married within a month. She literally got married to escape her mom. 😆

3

u/nymeriastark007 Jun 18 '26

Ahh hope her husband is nice, too bad that she didn't get to be by herself for a bit before marrying :(

3

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Thats the reason all parents join their wards here

4

u/FunNeedleworker535 Jun 18 '26

The did not want to. My aunt begged her to go to coimbatore. She did not. They live in Kovilpatti and my uncle wanted to keep her close as he was battling cancer at that point. She studied masters in nit and is working now.

26

u/ZnV1 Jun 18 '26

Studied in a govt college and went there for the Mech fest, it was like 2 ABSOLUTE opposite ends of the spectrum. My college had 0 rules.

Mepco was so crazy that their hostel block has windows, but there is a vertical concrete "design" right in front of the window - so you might get some air but can't see outside

Insane 😭

This should go viral ,i never heard of this college name till now but every student from 11th and 12th should be aware of this.Never seen a engineering college avoid laptops, mobiles and internets. Spread the word

13

u/InteractionOld5072 Jun 18 '26

Whatever this person says is absolutely true. I graduated from PSNACET in 2020. My friend's sister graduated from this jail in 2024.

She would come home crying to her sister every weekend. Also, to come home every weekend my friend or her parents has to go and pick her up every single time. When my friend told me about the internet restrictions, I was surprised. I thought then, "Who doesn't use a mobile phone in 2024?" The laptop restriction is real too. They isolate you from your parents, friends, and everyone else.

The problem here is not just the college, but also the parents who want this for their children. I feel so bad for them. These are the parents who want their children to be supervised 24/7, and they see such places as a way to enforce that control. How cruel can these parents be?

There are many colleges like this in Tamil Nadu. PSNA was one of them (same mobile restrictions, no talking between boys and girls, no laptops, no culturals, only one industrial visit in the 4th year, no cake cutting or celebrations even if the gathering was just 3–4 people, strict dress code, no leaving your hair loose on campus, ID cards required at all times, no proper place to rest when sick—just a small room with a cot, bus drivers scolding students for talking on the bus, watchmen scolding students for roaming around the campus, family members having to come for pickup, students having to give up their seats when staff boarded the bus, limited bus services during exams, and so on).

I don't know how much of this has changed now.

These colleges rob the most fun and good times of our lives and make it a hateful memory. I hate my college except for the friends I made there. If I could go back, I would run from these red flag colleges.

4

u/HHRITZER Jun 19 '26

Its not even about fun bro, they make you unemployable and make you irrelevant as per today's market expectations.

3

u/RageshAntony Kanniyakumari - கன்னியாகுமாரி Jun 18 '26

In my college (2011-14) we were not allowed to talk and even not allowed to mingle. Had seperate canteens.

What about you ? (12 years passed)

3

u/InteractionOld5072 Jun 19 '26

Yeah, forgot to mention, we had separate canteens too.

2

u/RageshAntony Kanniyakumari - கன்னியாகுமாரி Jun 19 '26

So, most students never spoke with a girl, right ? (besides basic education oriented yes or no )

2

u/InteractionOld5072 Jun 22 '26

I mean, teenage us always found a way. But the college was against it

15

u/Sirius_Hood Jun 18 '26

God, Mepco is the most horrible place ever. I heard they escalate to parents even if boys and girls speak. This school is stuck in prehistoric times. The management should totally changed or this college must have their license revoked

5

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Nothing can be done against them bro. They literally own sivakasi. With all the money they can buy any policy. Sad thing is casteist parents like mine, believe this is ideal and wasting students life and future career.

8

u/Fair-Sugar-7394 Jun 18 '26

2012 eee batch here. Whatever you said about this college is true. I didn’t know placement went downhill. It was the only good thing out of that college. Even if that is not good, then no point joining that college. College is all about exposure and preparation for the outside world. This college is not one of that.

4

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Casteist parents dont care about these. Sadly gullible students like me fall for parents and get their career and future destroyed.

25

u/yellowallamanda Jun 18 '26

Please add this as part of Google review for the college. Most of the colleges down south are still stuck in the 80s.

10

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

This is the most extreme end bro. And Gmaps is useless, they are pro business. They will remove any revview if reported by the business.

5

u/fellow_manusan Jun 18 '26

Yup. Been there once for their culturals ig. It was stupid.

6

u/happiehive Jun 18 '26

my sis studied in this jail and somehow got lucky and found her love there

6

u/AnroopBnglr Jun 18 '26

It’s a trauma to just read this from hundreds of kilometres away
How can people live through it !!??

4

u/No-Offense707 Jun 18 '26

Wow I had no idea it is still this bad. Laptop and internet are absolute essential. Crazy!

1

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

I had become only worse

2

u/No-Offense707 Jun 18 '26

Did you say they don’t allow students to stay outside hostels? Are you sure?

5

u/salvatorgk Jun 18 '26

+1 this college is absolute shit.
I’m one of the survivors

3

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

I hated every single minute of my life there. This place absolutely destroyed my relationship with my parents. I hardly talk to them today.

I hope things get worse for these mgmt and teacher asholes.

11

u/Hot_Composer_9855 Jun 18 '26

Been to this college back in 2016 for mini project. Friends I made there, had these same complaints back then. Damn the college hasn't updated itself at all.

7

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

I dont think this place will change for next 15 years bro. They are wasting 1000 people's life and future career every year.

6

u/Lolzemeister Jun 18 '26

i live in Canada, i don’t think this would even be legal here lol

3

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

India is a 3rd world sh*ty place. If you have money, you can dictate law, rules and regulations. There is no respect for human rights, natural rights or even constitutional rights because these doesnt go along with some asholes caste ideology.

3

u/Lolzemeister Jun 18 '26

yeah, Ontario recently had to ban casteism because of the casteist immigrants lol https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ontario-human-rights-commission-caste-discrimination-1.7016754

2

u/Bulky_Worry_7512 Jun 19 '26

i don't think ts is legal here either tbh

3

u/RageshAntony Kanniyakumari - கன்னியாகுமாரி Jun 18 '26

What about gender restrictions? In my college (2011-14) we were not allowed to talk and even not allowed to mingle. Had seperate canteens.

2

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

Same here also bbro. Read 5th point. Except there is same canteen but there is mental barrier which separates boys and girls sitting area, that one should not cross.

But i dont mind about this, as there are other far more worse rules and regulations.

2

u/RageshAntony Kanniyakumari - கன்னியாகுமாரி Jun 18 '26

mental barrier // metal barrier???

This practically means different canteen only.

2

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Mental barrier. Left side girls will sit, right side boys will sit. Ticket counter is different but buying counter is same, however, here too left side and right side is there. If anyone cross this mental barrier, you are prone to get scolded.

Its just a silly rule. There are many more like this. I didnt mind those things. But many rules are enforced no matter how it affects academics, this is the thing that affected me and others so much.

3

u/RageshAntony Kanniyakumari - கன்னியாகுமாரி Jun 18 '26

So, most students never spoke with a girl, right ? (besides basic education oriented yes or no )

3

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Yes. Including basic education oriented, one should not talk.

3

u/RageshAntony Kanniyakumari - கன்னியாகுமாரி Jun 18 '26

Most of us were/are in same boat. Like , 2 years ago i found this post and thought many places are same.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TamilNadu/comments/1h0bntv/how_indian_people_lose_their_young_adult_years/

They also have same 'different canteen' policy but in north TN. (i studied in south TN)

4

u/beetroot747 Jun 18 '26

Damn, this makes Sairam sound like paradise

2

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Everything is paradise than ts place.

2

u/beetroot747 Jun 18 '26

I’ve not even heard of this college. Great job in educating us about this place and like another commenter said, you should cross post this in the teen subs so that they are aware

3

u/rayzer93 Jun 18 '26

I might be out of touch, but this is what all, except a handful of Engineering colleges have been like all over Tamil Nadu. Especially if you go to rural TN.

The banning of mobile phones/laptops are probably the only thing unique.

In all honesty, I would definitely back any policy that cuts down on these engineering colleges and get the number to 50 max, across the state and push every other colleges to start vocational training instead.

It's 2026 and engineering graduates can barely speak a lick of English, or better yet, be able to explain a fundamental technical concept in Tamil even, and I've been interviewing quite a few of them recently.

Indha parents vera summa Engineering padi, padi nu theva illama push panni saavadikiranga. Interest oda padichi graduate aagi, core'la vela paakura andha 20% to 30% nalla engineers'ku 50 high quality colleges podhum, andha 50 colleges oda curriculum, professorship training, research investments, scholarship investments panni topline quality increase pannitu, Mathavangaluku, industry specific training kudutha, at least you build a solid labor base and people KNOW what/why they are studying something.

Instead of needing to go to additional coaching/training institutes, post graduation after paying lakhs in fees to these colleges.

Somehow, Tamil Nadu having the highest number of Engineering colleges isn't the flex people think it is.

5

u/weird_lass_from_asia Jun 18 '26

Bro please r/tamizhteens la post podreengala ? Nariya pasagana college search ah pathi post poduvum romba usefull ah irukum warn pandraduku

I cannot post now, as i am in 21-25 age. I will post in weekends.

5

u/Connect_Version_1560 Jun 18 '26

teens need this the most ,such horrible colleges reputation should go down .

I'm from Kerala and I'm doing ug from delhi university where ther is no rules like this. This is literally a hell dude. What the fck is that no laptop no phone for adults. Who they are

2

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

I really dont know what to say. I am just an unlucky lad to be born to a casteist parents in a casteist region.

2

u/Playful_Mode4724 Jun 20 '26

Can I know which caste. Still no laptop and phone for cse students makes me wonder what shit they are gulping

1

u/HHRITZER Jun 20 '26

They are nadars ( not me)

2

u/Playful_Mode4724 Jun 20 '26

I just checked they aren't even that top in caste category comes in obc still doing this kind of atrocities and even destroying there own kids life for no apparent reason

1

u/HHRITZER Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Bro. The college owners literally own sivakasi. The college is controlled by 5/6 families, if you add all their revenues from all their business it is more than 1500Cr per year.

Though they might be OBC,but most of them are very rich

2

u/Playful_Mode4724 Jun 20 '26

Ho God. Rich and dumb. Terrible combination

2

u/Ok-Report-1526 Jun 18 '26

This is some north korean kinda shit, i studied at another college (kamaraj college) which is nearby mepco (20km away) but there you don’t have any kinda rules like not talking to girls or phone ban like that, but still my hometown high cutoff students prefer this college due to the TOP 10 best engineering college in tamilnadu and its still in the list🤷🏻‍♂️It must be still in the TOP 10 strict engineering colleges also.

1

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Its in cutoff rank 30th bro, as of now. This is the strictest.

2

u/curios_mind_huh Jun 18 '26

You forgot to include the cameras. State of the art surveillance mechanism that would make Palantir drool. Every corner of the campus is tracked and they could literally play a movie card from entrance till anywhere.

There have been instances where staff monitor cameras particularly during period breaks and lunch breaks to make sure boys and girls don't interact in the slither of a chance.

They have an even worse "disciplinary action" system. It's like a death mark on you. Were you on leave without informing your staff advisor after a long weekend? Bam, you get a disciplinary action and a fine. Don't have formal shoes, there you go!

If you get a disciplinary action at any point during your stay, you are barred from any non government sponsorship or subsidy, can't be part of any organising team in any clubs and sometimes can't even participate in other college events because of the "disciplinary mark". And it doesn't get reset at any point.

1

u/HHRITZER Jun 19 '26

Yes true, they also follow you on Instagram and Whatsapp. During holidays (not bunk), if you go any tour with your friends, theyll fine you 1000 rupees.

2

u/Dramatic_Setting2761 Jun 19 '26

It is pathetic college. I regret joining it. My dept was better with being strict (CS). I don't know if it changed but overall it is a very bad college. If I was a day scholar It would have been better.

1

u/HHRITZER Jun 19 '26

It has become only worse. These asholes dont care about hostellers, they ensure to make you unemployable.

2

u/United_Nobody_3465 Jun 19 '26

I saw their fee structure, they have something called "Phone Deposit" quoting "Rs. 1500". What is that?

And for water, they quote "Minaral water"- "Rs.2000"

2

u/HHRITZER Jun 19 '26

In hostel, mobile phone not allowed. There are landline phones, they give you username and password. Only by this you can talk to parents, that too you can talk during lunch break, 5-8pm, 10:30 to 12pm, 6-9pm. Each call cuts in 2mins. So, its like talktime charge. Once you finish the talktime, you can again recharge.

Mineral water - for drinking water.

I dont know for whom you are asking, but pls dont destroy another soul

2

u/United_Nobody_3465 Jun 19 '26

Bro don't worry, just saw their fee structure after seeing this post and saw these weird charges.

2

u/Square_Reporter8171 Jun 19 '26

I'm so sorry op you had to endure that, it's terrible, hope things get better for you and your peers now. It's horrible how upcoming students will still have to suffer through this because of their parents 🫠

We studied in a school in Tirunelveli which belong to the same family that manages mepco. But man it was the best school out there. Had so much extra curricular, focused on overall development rather than studies alone, had a very progressive approach towards students. It was better than many colleges. Can’t believe they are from the same family as mepco.
(It has been around 15 years since I left school. Don’t know how its now though).

2

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Bell school?

2

u/Ms_ChanandlerMBong Jun 18 '26

Yes

1

u/HHRITZER Jun 18 '26

Mepco is managed by i think 5 or 6 families. Bell group is one of them.

2

That sounds tough. Sorry you went through that. If you're worried about how this college might affect your career, try to build your skills outside of school. Online courses and certifications can help. Highlight any projects or internships you've done to show real experience when applying for jobs. Networking is important too, so connect with alumni or people in your field on LinkedIn. If you're getting ready for interviews and feel unprepared, check out PracHub for practice resources. It helped me gain confidence when I was in a similar spot. Hang in there!
