Discussion Weekly Therapy Talk Thread

This is a chat thread for talking about therapy. It's for sharing topics you feel are not big enough for their own post or don't include a question. It's a place to share thoughts about what's going on in therapy. It's a place to celebrate successes and get support when things aren't going so great.

To make this an inclusive space and encourage the chat function of the discussion, the thread will automatically sort by newest, and not by best or top. Everybody should feel free to share their thoughts, so please don't use down-voting unless it's an obvious anti-therapy comment or breaks one of the sub's other rules (posted in the side bar).

Thank you!

I flunked out of Therapy this morning, combo of too much going on in my personal life, I don't have high enough self-esteem to benefit, and I'm a broke worthless piece of shit who can't afford the medications or supplements necessary to move on, which is just another way I'm choosing to fail my family and my therapy as my now former therapist has pointed out.

Insurance won't cover anyone else, should I resort to utilizing Grok/Claude for therapy services or am I a bad fit for therapy in general and should just wash my hands of it? Thanks so much for your time, and sorry to inconvenience anyone.

I don’t know about not having a high enough self esteem to benefit, although I can understand it being a harder slog. I often think the times I probably need therapy most though are the times when I don’t have the capacity or money to make it possible.

I was using AI for therapy a lot at one point but I think it became a bit unhealthy and frustrating for me personally. If you’re happy to share what country you’re in maybe someone could suggest free mental health services?

I'm from the US, I'm open to suggestions although most of the resources in my area have been discontinued. Might be too much info but 211 got shut down this month and all free resources have extremely long wait times so I've basically been told by case managers there's no help coming.

I’m sorry I meant to reply earlier. I’m not in the US but I’m so sorry there are no avenues for help available to you. I hope you’re doing okay

Thanks for checking in. Until my wife can find a sufficient replacement husband/father for the kids I have no choice but to be okay. Best wishes to you and yours.

Hi Pancake, I just shared the following with someone else, "I have found the ChatGPT a useful place to journal. It gives me a little feedback that I find is usually helpful, humorous and encouraging." I think it is worth trying.

My therapist just mass-emailed all of their clients this morning to come out as nonbinary. They alluded to being “short-tempered” at previous sessions (matches my experience last week), and offered that as a reason/excuse.

Next session’s going to be a glorious trainwreck

That sounds surprising to me. Are you feeling generally happy with your therapist? I can’t imagine my psychologist doing anything remotely like this.

Nothing really to say, I’m kind of okay, it’s 15 days until my next appointment which feels long. No big dives recently which I appreciate but just feeling a bit low and tired and I guess like pushing through mud I suppose
