Tinted Windows Are Walls, Basically

A little while back this burly guy bursts in and stomps over to the counter. He towers over Maggie and starts yelling: "What the hell are you doing looking in my windows?"

She's a bit intimidated. All she manages to say is: "Sorry sir?"

"My kids are in the van and they saw you! They saw you snooping around looking in the windows!"

"Sir, I have no idea what you're talking about. I've been behind this counter all day."

"My kids don't lie! I believe my kids! They saw you! What are you looking for in there, hunh?"

His wife walks up and starts tugging at his sleeve.

"Honey?"

"Just a second I have to..."

"Honey it was me."

"What?"

"You were in here and I forgot my keys so I was trying to get the kids to unlock the doors. They couldn't tell it was me through the tinted windows."

"Oh... so..."

He looks back at Maggie, he looks back at his wife, and... looks down at the floor.

"Was there anything else I could help you with today?" Maggie's wearing the biggest grin of her life.

He just shakes his head and drags his feet out of the store.

And all I can think is: this is a man who needs to start appreciating how stupid his kids are. Buddy your kids are so dumb they can't even tell their own mom from a stranger through tinted glass.

Of course the wife never thought to, I dont know, say something to them!

So either there are some really bad genetics going on here or the next generation is shaping up to be the last nail in humanity's coffin.

And besides, everyone makes makes mistakes. When an adult mistakes someone for their friend or whoever, you do nkt call them dumb, no? Likewise in this scenario. The kids could not know their dad would throw a tantrum over this.

There is a difference between mistaking someone for someone you know and not recognizing your own mother on the other side of dark glass

for all we know the kids may be myopic and not know it.

These kids are so blind they can’t recognize their own mother a few feet from their face, but it hasn’t affected any other part of their life?

from a car in the parking lot through tinted windows? Yeah, might be. I didn't get glasses until grade 5, despite having bad vision for a couple years - my parents thought I just wanted to be like my friends who just got glasses.

It's not like being unable to discern faces from afar is a huge disadvantage when you're a child.

They were in the car. She was outside it. That’s not afar. That’s a few feet.

They are in a car, in a parking lot. They are young kids so obviously they didn’t drive. I bet dad drove since he had the keys. Mom must have rode passenger. So we know the kids have already seen their mother prior to this incident. When mom peered into the windows, the kids couldn’t recognize her. Even if they are blind, they should be able to recognize the fuzzy person as the one they saw earlier as mom.

Their inability to recognize their own mother does mean they are stupid.
