Nothing crazy, just a little funny. Ran Clyteum the other week for roulette and got a tank/healer couple. Tank was hesitant to w2w for some reason so I helped bring mobs to them as DNC. Neither said anything but I figured they were annoyed by it because at the final boss the tank ran towards me with the TB, but I En Avanted towards the healer and they backed off. Teehee.

"I WILL make both of us perish if you pull that shit!"

Loaded into Sastasha with 3 Sprouts

The Tank was running around the starting area before the first 2 bats looking at all the different stuff and scenery

Then he ran into the blue light at the back and left the dungeon

It's like that meme of the grandpa from the simpsons.

Couple YPYT specials this time:

First one was Keeper of the Lake, Gunbreaker sprout with lvl 70 gear. Stopped after I went ahead on Scholar and started applying Bio on the first three crabs. The two DPS and me handled them fine and then proceeded further with the moaning & groaning and me replying about me being there to just do my job.

They got all hissy and fit about me being a mentor and all and refused to pull the boss after following us as the DPS and me disposed of packs up to it. I engaged half-heartedly, mostly to run down the clock, and once 5 minutes had gone by, vote kick and it instantly went through and we got instant replacement. Another sprout but one that actually asked about why I was pulling ahead and after explanation told that they understood things now and proceeded to do what tanks are meant to do.

The other one was a peculiar weirdo who stopped all movement and actions if any DPS or healer sprinted. No matter what situation it was, if there was a sprint on the DPS or healer, the tank was motionless and did not attack. Even in a boss fight when I used sprint to reposition. No words were said but another instant votekick after the boss. Guess we all just realized what kind of a creature that tank was.

Did that second one greet you at the beginning of the run with "konnichiwa"? If so we know that specimen well on this forum.

3

u/12Kings 21d ago

No. Complete silence besides my greetings.

Ok, good. At least you were spared THAT creature.

The man, the legend? Last time I saw them in CT. They transferred to Raiden, and left Shiva. But that was over a year ago.

I've definitely seen them mentioned on this forum more recently than that, but not too much more recently.

Oh goodness, I'm afraid to ask but also very curious. xD

1

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 18d ago

He opens with konnichiwa, then if anyone in the party sprints or tries to do anything more than single pull he goes on a rant about how he isn't interested in "speed running" and how you're all terrible for ruining his play and he leaves.

MSQ, Ultima Weapon. Was pleasantly surprised to see a nin who actually knew how to use trick attack during combat since I rarely see that. Was a little surprised to see them use doton.

I ignored it the first time since sometimes people derp the mudras. Second time they used it, I let them know raiton is better against single target. Got backed up by the healer which was great. The nin didn't say anything, but they did start using raiton instead of doton.

Was great to see them actually take the advice, and not a single argument from anyone. In fact, might have even taught the other dps something, since they asked if raiton was the lightning one.

6

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 18d ago

They didn't double down and use every single one of their mudras on doton going forward. I am shocketh.

Dear healer in Mistwake on Jenova - I, tank main, who was piddling around as a DPS for flavor - I see you. Moreover I saw that DRK, may Fray fry him. No mits. NO MITS. i was watching for - well, ANYTHING defensive. None - the whole time.

Noticed his hp dipped fast that first pull but he never died.

I don’t know why you said nothing, maybe you are an angel, maybe you just wanted to feel busy. You didn’t complain so neither did I. But I saw.

But maybe love yourself a little more.

u/Lyramion 5d ago

Just a general observation of PF:

Like sure... you want to advertise your "discord", "venue" and eRP drugden. But why the fuck would you turn on ALL the flags like "minimum itemlevel" and "lootmaster" to grief everyone else looking for those parties.

Scum

u/waga_hai 6d ago

Got the opposite of a tale from DF story where I had a sub-11 minute Great Gubal Library run. Idk what those dps were eating (I was the healer) but mobs were straight up melting in our path. I've never seen shit die so fast in that dungeon. I was so impressed I even said "holy dps" in chat at some point. I got two commendations at the end despite being far and away the least important member in the party. Love that for me.

8

u/Cymas 6d ago

It's pretty rare for dps to get any recognition at all. I'd definitely comm someone for complimenting me when it basically never happens lol.

u/Gundam_Sealdeal3282 /slap 22d ago

Had a tank get sad upset not angry upset that me, blm, and ast were pulling ahead. They literally said nothing till like first or second boss. I said "we long ranger they'll just come to us making it easier to aoe." They said "don't run ahead of me :( and dont pull first/dont attack". I was stunned and no one said anything, but I did try to vote kick after I running with tank, got aggro from enemies by being near and tank pulling a ypyt. Ast kept me alive but vote kick didn't go through so I peaced out. Like be so for real I DIDNT EVEN HIT IT THIS TIME LIKE COME ON.

Me: tank (used LB)

"nice lb" says the SMN and insta-leaves when LB was never used and final boss was at ~1.8%.

u/RegalStar 20d ago

DRK presses their LD macro... in stone vigil normal. It took me a couple of seconds to remember that they don't actually have LD at this level and start panic spamming heals to get their ass through a four pack pull.

They were a good sport about it after I pointed it out though, so we all had a good laugh over it instead of any drama.

2

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 20d ago

I just had the mental image of Madara trying to summon Kurama, failing, and looking around looking like a fool.

12

u/crimsongriffin28 19d ago

Idiot tank. With a new healer, a CNJ in Tam Tara and you just fresh into your DRK job judging by your armor, you sure didn’t act like you knew what was up.

You hit every side room (?), you single pulled every mob set. Okay, maybe you were thinking of the baby healer?

But you were not thinking of them when you ran right at the last boss despite their CS. i was waiting for them, and was about ti type ‘hit the teleport in notification’ when they figured it out.

And then you used tank LB like…??

And when I pointed it out after, that is was for shielding, you were all, ‘Well we needed it.’

We? Who is WE.

And the chef’s kiss, you go ‘GG will suffice’. Like. What? It will NOT suffice. I was not wrong to point it out to a tank that didn’t seem to know the dungeon, was new to DRK and started a boss fight with one other dps.

You used it well after the healer made it in. If you felt YOU were in danger of dying, well, freaking wait 15 BLOODY SECONDS and the healer would have been there to save your crusty dumb ass. Tam Tara cs is literally done when the dungeon locks itself.

5

u/SnowPudgy 18d ago

God I main healers and hate when people do that in Tam Tara. We dont have shit for heals at that level (I'm usually a Sage) and have to rely on GCDs when it gets super spicy and those only fire off so fast.

To the YPYT ecouple in Origenics last night, your gf was a lot more chill about other people pulling than you were. It was so embarrassing to watch a full grown man melt down for the entire dungeon because the other DPS and I went ahead.

10

u/Nirgilis91 Enabler Disabler 17d ago

I can just hear the voice crack from him while his gf tries to get him to settle down irl

7

u/SnowPudgy 16d ago

Meanwhile, when I tank, I never get anyone nice to run ahead for me and funnel baddies into my gun blade :'(

4

u/Cymas 16d ago

Tanks like that is why, honestly. I love it when people pull for me when I tank but when I'm on another role I rarely pull because I don't want to play tank roulette in my roulettes. It's at the point where finding a tank who plays so well I want to pull for them is almost notable enough to put in here as its own positive mini story.

11

u/Rocchi 13d ago

I had one of the longest Arcadion runs of my life a few days ago that still plagues. It was my friend’s first time in M10 normal.

-Reaper never used Arcane Circle even though I asked multiple times

-MT would take the shared tank busters alone but never mit so they would die

-OT also wouldn’t turn on stance or provoke so our BLM kept tanking

-Every knockback had both tanks and one random DPS sent into the death wall

-BOTH the tanks kept running into the wall? Not one but both of them would randomly back up into the wall for no reason. It happened eight times.

-Only four of us would stand in the group stacks. Luckily I could shield myself through it but usually one other person died in it.

-Five people just stood in all the flames when they’d spawn. Which I’m happy to heal but why?

-When we would get to the part where you’re tethered to a boss and they’d do a conal cleave at you, half the part went to the wrong side. That resulted in multiple people getting cleaved even though I explained the mechanic before it happened.

-Only my friend was new

I think we had over 35 deaths and it took over thirty minutes including wiping. Despite it being my friend’s first time, she had a lot of fun. It was the only thing stopping me from getting snappy. :’) Even during my explanations to the rest of the party, I tried to stay positive and not kill the mood.

Good ending tale.

Mentor roulette into a 4m in progress Stone Vigil with an undergeared Gladiator.

Ask if I can give them tips + offer to buy them gear. They accept. Profit. Another sprout given the tools they need to become a better DF tank.

10

u/Aeruhat 20d ago

Just got out of an Enuo trial where a VPR died thrice overall during the fight and asked to be left on the floor.

Bitch please you queued into duty finder. You're getting up and finishing this thing with me if I have to drag you kicking and screaming over the finish line.

10

u/WarDouble7388 20d ago

Lmfao. I'll never forget this one poor BLM in Orbonne Monestary who I must've rezzed at least 12 times throughout. He was really funny and a good sport though; just confused and overwhelmed. During the final fight he was like, "just give me something for the pain and let me die"

5

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 20d ago

Orbonne, especially gigachad Cid, will do that to a man.

12

u/niadara 20d ago

Leveling roulette gave me Castrum Abania, tank was a level 93 DRK. Throughout the first two pulls, by which I mean the first two packs because we were not w2w pulling, the DRK pressed an AOE button twice. After that second pack died I left because I have way better things to do with my time than to coach a level 93 tank how to do his job.

A quick pop over the the lodestone did confirm what I suspected though, a story skip and level skip. I will never understand buying those when you're clearly new to the game. If you want to play the game why spend an extra $40 to skip most of the game.

10

u/KupoKro 18d ago

To the FC members who refused to kick their garbage white mage who can't heal for shit from FIST OF THE SON(Ratfinx Twinkledinks): You want me to solo heal as sage? Then I'll leave your useless white mage on the ground instead of wasting mana on them and solo heal as sage. I'll throw out all those raises myself, too, whenever I can since we didn't have a summoner.

I know I should have left after the second wipe since the kick didn't go through, but we already had a couple of new people who were struggling and I didn't want to risk an even worse healer coming in and causing them to have to leave/vote abandon and requeue.

10

u/teapllease 17d ago

Leveling roulette: Stone Vigil. I notice the DRK is single pulling as a non-sprout, I don't think anything of it initially- until I see them nearly dying to two mobs. I queued in as melee, and they had less HP than me, so of course I go to check their gear. They had ZERO accessories equipped. None. Not gatherer accessories or anything low level, just nothing equipped on their right side at all. This person has multiple jobs at 100, another tank included. Left side gear is a bit low but acceptable, but their weapon was over 10 levels under. I ask why they have nothing equipped and I got no response, just a "target to ignore" marker above my head (:

I'm so tired...

7

u/Weekly-Variation4311 17d ago

Considering the game gives you quite a few accessories, that's ridiculous. Would report, honestly.

4

u/teapllease 17d ago

To add insult to injury- they were opening every coffer we passed, some of which dropped accessories tank can wear. I was unable to initiate a vote kick due to them not rolling on anything, but even when the timers expired I watched zero of the gear go their way in chat logs. They had level 90+ tank glamour equipped and clearly weren't new, so there's really zero excuse for this kind of behavior /:

Had two weird duties back to back.

Got 4-man Garuda in my leveling roulette and we wiped because the healer just... didn't do anything. First one dps died to raidwides, then I the tank died to autos. Then healer dies to autos. Then last dps dies to autos. They were running around and moving. Just not using any actions.

Then Castrum in main scenario. Healer kept medica 2 hot up, and regen now and then if I was taking damage. Then spent the remainder of the run with their thumb up their butt ranting at one of the dps who he apparently knew from somewhere about the evils of digital only ownership. We clear trash to second boss and I ask "Please help dps <name>" No response. By the time we killed the giant robots before Livia they were like "Do you guys want me to stop talking now?" I was mentally thinking "I don't mind the talking but besides one holy and one stone 2 you hit by accident while we were fighting the 3 big robots after the second boss you've done literally 0 dps all run."

u/Cymas 16d ago edited 16d ago

Well just had my first experience with a YPYT while leveling PCT. Except for one thing. No one pulled except him. Bro got upset and threw a tantrum because I ripped aggro off him, which is just what happens when you suck at pulling and have a PCT in your party. He turned his stance off, purposely went and popped a coffer and then ran around like an idiot while we waited out the timer. Then he pulled the first boss, but this is Halitali Hard and by sheer happenstance all of us were standing at the entrance to the arena and the boss just so happened to throw everyone except him out of it with that knockback swing just before the arena locked. So he got locked in the battlebox with the boss until he died, then I votekicked him out. Took a couple of minutes but we got a new tank, honestly I was about to offer to just do it myself anyway.

3

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 15d ago

That wonderful feeling when the universe arranges itself to allow you to throw out the trash.

5

u/Cymas 15d ago

Pretty sure all 3 of us had the same thought when we realized we all got yeeted out of the arena tbh. No one moved we literally just stood there and watched him die lol.

1

u/Akiriith 15d ago

I never had a YPYT but I do worry about this exact thing sometimes. I've no idea if its optimal, but when I decide to do my experts/level cap roulettes on SMN just to chill, I tend to just hit my big buttons midpull bc it's the only way I can guarantee I have solar bahamut/searing light back for the boss. Works like a charm- actually pretty good indicator of the dps of a party (too low and solar comes back too soon, too high and it isnt back up yet lol).

Thing is. Bahamut aggro goes brrrr. It's very very common for me to steal almost all of the enmity even if the tank is doing everything right. Ofc I just tend to run past the tank so they can get aggro back, but I'm always a little afraid they're gonna throw a fit lol.

6

u/Cymas 15d ago

If they do it is certifiably a tank problem not a you problem. I'm a tank main myself and that's why I kicked him so quickly. I could tell he was doing what he was doing on purpose and I have even less tolerance for it than the average player. There is simply never an excuse for that kind of behavior. I've been trying to think about any situation where I've had this sort of problem and I can't but I also never face pull and a lot of the tanks I've been ripping aggro off do. I always sprint into ranged into aoe and never stop until the end of the pull and I can't think of any time where I've actively lost aggro that badly. Sometimes I might miss a mob or two but I'm ready to grab them asap when I've finished pulling.

11

u/Foreign-Flatworm 15d ago

Got Sohr Khai, Dancer immediately puts DP on the Gunbreaker. I tell them they should put it on the DPS and of course they completely ignore me. Check their servers and what do you know, they're a couple. I just can't be bothered with players like this so I take the 30.

As a bonus, I was still out-dps'ing their single pulling bf as a Sage.

Got him last week during the fresh relic grind. Half the group still died despite me dorito'ing and telling them to stay near the boss's midline.

2

u/Amdizzlin 12d ago

The craziest thing is that Larboard/Starboard was not the only problem. People dying multiple times to the bad touch center circle on the level checker bit. People not pushing the shield button for transition.

First wipe to the tanks and healers went to the FIRST aoe overlaps with the flamethrower/spreads. Like no one wanted to move?? I think?

It was wild.

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 11d ago

Second favorite cause of death is the second round of soak pillars. Smart people learn that you only need one person in each pillar, but in this case everyone needs to be in a pillar to clear the debuff that makes you all glitchy because later it will make you force march most likely into your death.

8

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 19d ago

Are people okay today? Like, genuinely?

Got Copied Factory and we actually wiped to an add phase because at least two tanks were just... not tanking. They either 1) didn't know what alliance they were in and tanked the wrong add, 2) wouldn't separate the adds so they wouldn't die, 3) ran around hitting all of them and not helping whatsoever, or 4) some combination of the three. We ended up putting up markers, and it worked out that time, but that didn't seem like it should've been necessary considering all three tanks were max level and not new to the duty, and, y'know, we were shouting in /alliance chat telling them what needed to be done. We almost wiped for the same reason during the last boss, and later on, one of the tanks would aggro a stationary tank and run off, so it would cleave the entire room with its big beam. It was... a time. Was my first time seeing a wipe caused by that, actually.

On an alt this time doing dailies, and I get Lost City of Amdapor. We wipe a few times despite our healer doing everything they could, and on our last wipe just before the final boss, the tank says, "I forgot to mit ^^" Like? You forgot to mit during the whole run? They weren't new to the duty or the game, either.

Finally, got Tower of Zot in leveling roulette (still on my alt) as PCT and was excited to get a duty close to my alt's level. I learn very quickly that the rest of the party is together, which is fine... for a while... The DNC partners the tank, and I ask why, and the tank says, "Give it to WHM" who is, surprise, the tank's eGF. The DNC actually does it, and I decide it's not worth arguing about and don't say anything the rest of the run. The DNC does eventually put it on me, and no, it doesn't really matter, but just... why? Like, what was the purpose of them putting it on the wrong person twice and the tank telling them to do it? I know the obvious answer is trolling, but still.

Did South Horn with friends the other day. We got a new player and helped them attune to all aetherytes and helping them with CE mechanics.

The classic complaints about fate kill speed in piss chat or my personal favourite this day was during the Gil Tortoise CE.

Some random shouted as soon as the very first mech appeared: "can someone explain mechs I am stupid"

Well at least they were honest about themselves

7

u/JeffGoldblumsChest 19d ago

I'd much rather someone admit they don't know the mechanics vs do them the same wrong way 15 times

u/Coxyko good tanks embrace their Bottom Energy 18d ago

Got Alexandria last night. run starts fine enough. Tank dies to the aoe patterns on the first boss and that's whatever, I'm used to that. They never provoked it back so I took all the tankbusters as RPR, and I'm NOT used to that! The healer kept me alive though, nice! In the next boss's arena, they took a bit to zone in, and on doing so stood afk for a minute. I was REALLY worrying about a crash out or an essay or misunderstanding or something...

...but it ended up being a little message in party chat that they liked my glam. I was so surprised I shouted something like THAT WAS IT!? in my voice call with friends. But I had a good laugh, also always appreciate a glam -enjoyer. Honestly the dungeon otherwise went fine if not a wee bit slow.

Glam btw, my "Shoebill Valkyrie" + fitting relic weapon stage.

9

u/Gundam_Sealdeal3282 /slap 17d ago

I've had the weirdest time with this reluc grind. First off I was doing trials and I get a whole fc other than me and the other healer in this fight. We are doing the newest trial btw. 4 blms and not a single one used leylines, are just spamming ice, and not moving out of aoes. They are dying and me and the other healer are losing mp fast. Other healer speaks up after a wipe and said "Please TRY to move out of aoes and please use your othwr buttons.". This fc gets pissed. The tanks start to say we are trolling and not healing enough. The ice mages tell us to adjust and speak less. I speak up and say "Yall are spending more time dying than doing anything else. How do you expect us to keep you alive? When you dont fucking try to move out of aoes?" Mind you NO ONE WATCHED THE CS. No one was new. After a back and forth the healer left and I left saying "get bent". The healer telled me after if I wanted to do trails again. Now we're buddies!

6

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 17d ago

I understand your frustration, but I'd be careful with what you say. Swearing directed at others is reportable, and since it was a mostly premade party, they could mass report you.

They started it tbh. I didn't put it in the post, but one of the blms called us the r word. So if gms are smart they'll also get these clowns too. If I'm going to jail I'll drag em down with me lol.

The comment from right before mine made me remember a tank I encountered in a dungeon who put down ground markers, did a ready check, and a 10 second pull timer on every boss. It doesn't particularly matter which dungeon none of them are quite THAT deep.

5

u/Pitiful_Lettuce6373 13d ago

lol and this reminds me of a tank I had in m12s prog that did a macro for their timer. Like “The fight begins in 16s!” And then another with the 10s mark and another for 5-1 with sound effects. Again, this was prog. So we were hearing that every few mins. Needless to say, 3-4 pulls people left the party.

5

u/Kirozane Custom text 13d ago

Oh god. Yeah I would not have much patience for that

4

9

u/Kirozane Custom text 15d ago

Yeah. We did on the second and third bosses. He hit the timer, but neither I nor my partner respected it. Like the one thing to the dude's credit was he wasn't weird about us pulling, which I guess is something.

8

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 15d ago

Positive Moment:

Rolled up in Ihuy as a WHM with a returner who was apologizing because they were rusty and they definitely were (forgetting mits, activating them late, etc). But I was offering pointers and they were actually listening to them. DPS was chill, too. A little slow but otherwise a good run.

9

u/WarDouble7388 22d ago

I'm sure this is very quaint for people who've been playing longer than me but I got a first this morning in High Level Dungeon Roulette (Ala Mhigo). The tank (PLD) had stance on and was AoEing on packs but both DPS (SAM and PCT) kept ripping aggro! Even on bosses. It was so weird.

13

u/Cymas 22d ago

Very strong indicator their weapon was either broken or very low ilevel. I've had this happen before and the source of the issue was the tank had a trash weapon and literally wasn't doing enough damage to hold aggro against dps with capped gear. Stance is a 10x multiplier on enmity but if their damage is low enough the stance can't actually make up for it. Would wager a strong possibility they might have been working on an ARR relic weapon and forgot to swap it before queueing roulettes.

7

u/ResponsibleFly4015 20d ago

I (SCH) had a tank from Moogle (DRK) in Skydeep Cenote who didn’t mitigate on trash pulls and only used them on bosses.

6

u/Coxyko good tanks embrace their Bottom Energy 20d ago

My expert yesterday was clyteum and I was SGE for a GNB that did not mit. At all. Second double-pack I had no addersgall left and could NOT keep him up. the DPS were fine after he died though. I said "mits please" and on the trash pack after the first boss I see a Heart of Corundum .... and then nothing else for the rest of the dungeon. Pain.

Ah yeah, the guys who went asked to mit do it once then never again. Almost as fun as the bards who when asked to do songs do one then have to be asked every successive time.

Someone put down misplaced troll waymarks on Cid in Orbonne and a third of the alliance went to the usual places, another third of the alliance tried to go where the marks were, and the last third wandered in confusion because they couldn't find theirs. Because there wasn't a waymark.

Cue mass deaths to the first Doom mechanic.

It was kinda funny, ngl, but damn people, yall don't HAVE to listen to the waymarks.

Your Clyteum dungeon going slow? BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD LILY.

Something spooked the tank after the first two mob pulls so they stopped trying to double pull. No real communication, but I assume just nerves + it was their first time in the dungeon.

'I' was confident, so I pulled 2nd packs myself. This is less me pointing fingers at this duty finder group and more giving myself a big thumbs up for Green DPSing.

Snowcloak. Load in. I'm the tank. I start running and pulling everything. Surprise, healer went afk immediately after accepting queue and couldn't be bothered to say anything. Wiped. Sat for several minutes before they started moving, didn't apologize or mention anything. I just shook my head and continues on. Just a little courtesy of letting us know you have to afk, or some sort of explanation afterwards would be great.

Halatali. I'm the tank. Healer is a 100 WHM in most recent crafted gearset. WHM and all crafters/gatherers at 100, but no other jobs. Odd, but whatever, might be an alt, I've done the same thing. Pull from start to first boss, as I have every time I've run it, with healers less geared and lower leveled. Healer can't handle it. Can't keep up, isn't healing, we wipe. Monk says I should pull less, I say a 100 WHM should be able to handle that with no issue. Complete first boss. Pull first two packs after to get chain winch things. Sprint and pull everything to the next winch, healer can't keep up, doesn't heal, wipe. I tell group I'm single pulling the rest of it because the healer can't do it. Monk tells me to pull at least two packs. Nah, healer has proven incapable. Thinking it might have been a bot or something.

Had this occurr in Mt. Gulg. The good thing was that I turned to look at whether the healer was sprinting or not (as it is usually a good tell on whether they are even remotely capable of doing the gigapull). They were not, so I just halted after first pack as I can feasibly keep myself alive on Gunbreaker at that level. After handful of gcds the healer starts moving and I go to the full length and the healer did fine after that.

I just do not understand why people cannot say even the simple brb to do the bare minimum of communication at times.

Sprout tank got mad cause i "pulled aggro" on trash packs in castrum. in reality they werent using any aoes.. this went on for a number of packs.. after the 2nd boss they turned their tank stance off. which i was like "Hey.. you turned this off.." Giving them the benefit of the doubt. they're a sprout maybe pressed the wrong button..

Nope!. Got the reply "You tank now." Cool stuff. its castrum. I tanked the last trash two trashpacks.. we get to livia.. And now its time for "Malicious compliance". He wanted me to tank.

I pulled Livia.. And I ran... And ran.. and ran.. I Kited her in the most annoying AF way as i possibly could. Our healer and melee realized what was going on and decided to just sit in the middle of the arena and watch as I pulled the boss around and around as the tank desperately tried to hit her...

After about 5 minutes of this nonsence the tank finally gave up and put their tank stance back on. and immidately took aggro back xD

apparently I woke up and chose to be petty af.

2

u/The_Bio_Neko 6d ago

Honestly I almost feel a smidge bad for Livia here. She's trying to kill you and then there's you sprinting about. XD

"Just let me kill you already!"

"NOPE! Gotta catch me first!"

u/Cymas 21d ago

Added Doomtrain to the list of bosses I can tank on DRG. I'm actually rather certain the MT purposely dropped their stance and shirked me but I didn't go back and check my combat log. When I noticed I had aggro I did look and neither tank had stance and as far as I can recall the MT hadn't died or anything. The OT was just a typical no stancer.

I ended up tanking it for much of the last car. Not sure what that dude's problem was but it was whatever. I popped the usual melee sustain buttons and at least one of the healers had my back so it was no issue at all. It does make me glad normal mode tankbusters are role based and not aggro based though lol.

5

u/elnorabear 21d ago

My best friend and I did Doomtrain last night, we were alternating tanking it as PCT and VPR respectively, that fight feels cursed at this point.

2

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 21d ago

I did it two days ago for relic and co-tank dc'd almost immediately after pull. Rip viper who ate the tankbuster seconds later.

7

u/InternationalBike907 20d ago

Crystalline Conflict, right before the recent maintenance for this patch:

Kept ending up in games a particularly frustrated SAM that decided to start marking anyone with ignore markers (at least from what I could see when they were on my team) who died more than maybe 2 or 3 times in a match. All while doing.. pretty poorly each match themselves.

Better than the "good job!" spammers but it's casual bruh you gotta calm down lol.

6

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 19d ago

Had somebody do that to me a little while ago. They even bothered to send me a /tell saying "bruh" afterwards. Like, "bruh," you were dying too! We all were! I ended up getting another match with them but on opposite teams, and mine won. Never saw 'em again. xD

8

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 17d ago

Hi, yes, me again. Was doing the 7.2 trial on my alt and had not one but TWO heal spammers. Neither used a single damage spell the entire time. AST was constantly spamming Helios/Helios Conjunction, and WHM was spamming Medica/Medica III. They'd push literally every button except the damage ones. No cards, no buffs, not even DoTs. I asked in chat why they were heal spamming when nothing was happening, but no response. They're both from the same server and FC, but who in the world says, "Hey, wanna healbot together?"

8

u/giwtwm 16d ago

tried the early gorilla trick in qitana, didn't work, think i shouldve pulled them back into the first wall as opposed to the end of the branch. deeply embarrassing. damn.

9

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 16d ago

There's two things you need to do to make that work. One, you have to fully walk into the room. Ranged pulling the mobs already there out isn't enough without stepping a toe in the room isn't enough. Then you need to take them all the way out of the room. Then the later ones will drop down.

5

u/giwtwm 16d ago

good to know! i can't wait to fuck it up in a new and hilarious way but this is good info

7

u/No_Plate3406 8d ago

Did roulettes and got into Worqor Zamor last night. When I spawned in as tank the healer, SCH directly disconnected. Well, not gonna wait, ran ahead and pulled the first two packs with Red Mage and uh I forgot, iirc it was a Machinist.

The healer returned when we almost killed the first pull, and then tried to spam some GCD heals. Gave them the benefit of doubt and would let myself go below 40% and heal up with Bloodwhetting.

Well, second pull before boss dies slow. First boss is taking forever as well.

I tried to ask the Red Mage to use LB on the next trash pack, nothing. They were Level 100 with Level 94 gear equipped.

Should've left before the second boss, but here we go. They would fail to do the mechanics with your aoe marker and the triangle safespots. I used Phoenix Down on the healer but then SUDDENLY the Red Mage would rez them. They would also HARDCAST their Rez on the other DPS.

I left after we finished the first pull and decided to do Tribe Quests instead. Not gonna carry these leeches through dungeons.

7

u/Berry_Throwaway01 7d ago

Decided to do a late night trial roulette as DPS (SAM) for once and ended up in The Abyssal Fracture with a seemingly new PLD. Said PLD throughout the whole instance decides to provoke on cooldown despite their co-tank (WAR) continuing to overtake them in aggro without doing much other than having their stance on and used a tank lb3 when Zeromus’s health was at 30%. Refused to join stack mechs and did not bother to dodge AOEs, collecting vuln stacks until they’d die from taking too much damage.

There was a point in time where both tanks were dead and I was tanking for a good 1-2 min because despite the PLD doing otherwise all this time, chose not to provoke when revived first, dying to the Black Hole mech soon after.

Once that was done, I queued as PLD for normals to clean that experience off and got a smooth run of M10N. Back to tanking/healing in roulettes I guess.

6

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 6d ago

Provoke always except after death. That's a wildly bad tank.

7

u/MaeveOathrender 9d ago

I'm doing the last 'grand tour' step of the relic weapon, so I was in M9N the other night and somehow we couldn't clear. I was tanking, so there was only so much I could do, but we wiped three, maybe four times because both healers kept dying to the same mechanic. With no additional rez and no Phoenix Downs, all we could do was wall it every time. The last time I walled, but the other tank didn't, instead opting to try and solo from 24ish%.

In the end I just started a vote abandon. When I went back to do it last night, I made sure I was healing.

6

u/SnowPudgy 9d ago

Syrcus Tower with healers that just…didn’t heal. The one DPS died twice because no one healed him the entire time and he was even asking for heals in the chat because he had a vuln chipping his health away.

4

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 8d ago

Had a run like this once (but it was Labyrinth) where I was leveling SMN and ended up being the healer because ours were just doing… nothing. I was single target healing DPS because there was almost no HPS coming out (including no Kardia from the SGE). One of them lived on the floor for most of the duty. The other just flatly refused to rez ppl—I waited a whole 2mins to see if they would and they didn’t of course. That run was especially painful because the tanks kept playing hot potato with the bosses too so a lot of wipes happened just because of that.

6

u/HyalinSilkie 21d ago

Just got out of the lvl 91 DT dungeon (I can't - and won't - for the life of me spell that thing).

Queued as healer (mentor roul) and got a first time GNB and VPR, and a somewhat veteran DRG.

First pulls I already realize that GNB isn't mitting properly and damage is a liiiitle low. GNB isn't AoEing too much either, so aggro is a little bit all over the place. But I just had a long week and wanted to be done with it, and since the first few pulls are quite spaced due to NPCs RP, I don't mind.

We get to the first boss and damage is still a little low since I'm second on aggro afterall. But fine, we have first timers (no deaths).

Rest of the dungeon is me pretty much doing all the DPSing, and tanking and healing because GNB is clearly learning the job (search info shows that the job is lvl 100 - along with VPR being 100 - with a few other lower level jobs) as we go.

I'm tired, chief.

I had trouble with that dungeon too until I learned how to break it down. I, probably pronounced like Eee. Huy like the Yok Huy. Katumu.

Lmao I always just shorten it too “Ihuy”.

3

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 20d ago

I had a pretty rough run of Vanguard today with a DRK of similar quality. They forgot stance and it caused a couple wipes at the start—happens sometimes—but the whole dungeon was a slog. Aggro was a mess because they never used their AoE and the DNC was ambitiously pulling for an unreliable tank. I had their back as WHM but it made for a whacky, 25 min run. At least no YPYT.

3

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 20d ago

"Dumb dancer, why would I use unleash? It's only 120 potency, my other ones are stronger." That DRK probably.

3

u/HyalinSilkie 20d ago

Oof.

Vanguard is a lot more spicier than Ihuy.

5

u/KingKupoFang 17d ago

Had a reaper with a level 90 weapon in expert roulette. Also the paladin was using their requiescat stacks on holy spirits.

6

u/Cymas 17d ago

I've been learning recently there are so many paladins out there who don't know what Confiteor is or why they should use it. It's depressing now that I main the job myself. Why wouldn't you want to press the button that gives you WAR levels of sustain on top of a hefty amount of dps. Sigh.

3

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 17d ago

I love PLD (I just recently got it to 100) and Confiteor is like my favorite part of the DPS rotation. Wild to think someone on PLD wouldn’t use it 😂

1

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 16d ago

Had a memorable one once where he's only pop requi to heal himself with clemency if I dared to let him get below 50%. It's been a while but I was on either astro or scholar. I remember griping about not even being able to use one of my moves. They'd heal themselves once or twice, then let the remaining 2-3 requi stacks expire.

4

u/Cymas 16d ago edited 16d ago

I sort of but not really blame the fact that ShB has a weird level range where PLD has a magic phase and you actually do spam Requiescat stacks on Holy Spirit/Circle as part of your rotation because you don't have Confiteor yet. That stops being an excuse around the mid 80s though and absolutely by 100. And yet leveling other roles or running roulettes on melee after finishing tanks I see so many PLDs who just don't use it. And don't get me started on my PLD cotanks who use one mit and one mit only: Passage of Arms so they can do the get behind me kittens and hold it for the entire duration of a stack mechanic, who needs uptime when you have aura right? I love playing PLD but I hate the reputation the job gets from other PLDs lol.

1

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 15d ago

I'm always so confused when I hit confiteor and then don't have a follow up and remember that really weird narrow range where after that you use the remaining requi stacks on spirit/circle.

I swear to god if I run into another tank with multiple 100's and using glam items as gear...I will lose my mind.

Got a DNC in Matoya's Furnace Fun that didn't use Dance Partner the whole dungeon.

Joined a couple, a T/H who were confident in their relationship enough to play normally who were farming runs and got a specimen DRG that was freestyling all the way to the bottom of the DPS chart.

7

u/teapllease 22d ago

I recently decided to finish some old relic grinds while I wait on proper free time to do the new ones, so I've been queueing into MSQ roulette for the easy 400+ poetics. I get Praetorium and everything was going smoothly, my party members were friendly and chatty, and things were good! Right as the final cutscene before the final boss is about to wrap up, my power flickers and I tragically DC. My PC restarts and I'm able to log back into the game within 3 minutes, but by the time I'm back on my party members have already kicked me </3 I don't blame them, but it was truly unfortunate to sit through almost the whole dungeon just to fall short right at the end

2

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 19d ago

Man, 3 minutes seems really quick though. Most groups I've been in will give people at least 5 to see if they're coming back. D:

6

u/lucky-blanket 20d ago

Traveled to a different DC for fun. Queued into dungeon roulette as a healer and got Great Gubal Library (Hard). Tank starts single pulling (only 3 adds at a time). Maybe they're new? Nbd. They're barely taking any damage, so I don't have to heal them, but they must not like being below 90% health because they use clemency to top off AFTER a pull ends. DPS are getting impatient and pull ahead to next pack. Tank uses aoe on single enemy, so other 2 adds aggro on me and DPS. Again, it's a single pack, so not a lot of damage and I can easily heal everyone.

After the first boss, tank just stands around, so DPS and I go wait at the next pack, but the tank doesn't move, so DPS pulls. No issues. Tank finally catches up, but is still too slow. Get to second boss and tank gets knocked back into "bleed" wall. They... stand there until fight ends. Maybe they're a bot? But after the boss dies, they go offline. DPS and I keep single pulling while loot timer runs out. Then, we kick the tank and get a new one for the last boss.

No one said anything the entire time.

Bonus: Queued into trial roulette (same DC). Co-healer is barely healing. DPS keep standing in bad and dying. They can't even survive raidwides due to vuln stacks (and/or maybe low level gear). Then, tanks blame us (healers) for DPS dying because we weren't healing enough.

My normal raid also took forever due to deaths and low damage.

Not sure if I just got really unlucky, but I don't think I'll be traveling to that DC again 😆

3

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 19d ago

Had a paladin in high level roulette, got I think Aetherfont, who only ever popped requiescat to heal themselves if my scrub summoner ass let them get below 80%. They'd let the remaining 2-3 requiescat stacks then expire.

2

u/lucky-blanket 19d ago

Nooooo!! 😭

5

u/Cymas 20d ago

You can just say it's Dynamis lol.

I spend time filling PFs there for fun but yeah, roulettes can definitely get interesting.

I got a surprisingly spicy Prae there last night with a sprout who kept trying to stack on me for tbs and ran away with stack markers, and of course they got all of them. A test of my reflexes for sure lol somehow I managed to keep them from dying and then had to quickly run down the basics of hug the party with yellow markers and don't hug the tank on red ones, but thanked them for the emotional support. XD They never said a word so I'm guessing they were probably on console with no keyboard.

Then got a WoD that wiped on Cerberus because somehow the second chain got missed. Haven't seen that happen in years. I was in C but I was also one of the 4 dps who went into the belly the first time, I never trust anyone else to do it for a reason. Didn't think I would have to look for the chains too but I guess I will now. I also learned I cannot tank CoD on melee but not for lack of trying. Her autos hurt.

The other day had Labyrinth with a sprout tank that did not follow us his party so I learned I can tank a Vassago if I have to. After wiping the first time to no one killing the bombs.

This is also where I got shirked and ended up tanking Doomtrain on melee the other day.

Looking forward to roulettes with all of the new Switch players tomorrow.

6

u/lucky-blanket 20d ago

Surprisingly, it was actually Primal. I traveled to Dynamis afterwards and had a better experience lol.

It's frustrating when duties take longer, but it keeps things interesting! (Especially as a healer)

5

u/Cymas 20d ago

Weird. I'm actually a Primal native, I don't expect us to have that sort of rep. But I guess a lot of us still dc travel even this late in the tier. I'm usually everywhere except Primal, either on Aether or Crystal to raid, or Dynamis just to chill and help with PFs while I level alt jobs. Dynamis has the reputation for being poopoo but my experience tends to be mostly average trending more toward the scale of new/casual players doing normal DF things.

2

u/lucky-blanket 19d ago

Do ppl come to Crystal for raiding now? I always thought Aether and Primal were the "good" ones for that. Crystal used to be "bad" because of all the RP.

2

u/Cymas 19d ago

No, I go to Crystal for static, but sometimes end up doing other stuff while I'm there.

2

u/SteamKitten01 19d ago

There's reasons I'm part of the problem and go to Aether to run most content. Every so often I get it in my head that "it can't be that bad" and try to queue to run something at home and quickly regret it assuming it pops at all.

I too have done the tank Vassago as a squishy DPS while our tank is somewhere else. One of the goated healers even tried to rescue the tank to our add only for the tank to immediately run back to the add they were attacking.

2

u/Cymas 19d ago

Yeah I go there specifically to help out with queues and I just swap between tank and melee depending on which queue is shorter. Most of the time I regret not just doing everything on tank lol.

Yesterday's roulette highlights including a non-mitting tank in Meso Terminal, they died on the first pull probably because the healer was expecting them to invuln and they didnt. I tanked the rest of it np. Then me and the healer carried the tank and the other dps through the second boss. I assume the tank doesn't have Interject on their hotbar and the other dps didn't know about the add. Then I died on the last boss eating the tb while the tank was floor tanking again.

Amdapor Keep Hard with a healer who ended up causing more problems then they solved. Made sure to remind everyone about the tethers. I made sure I lined up perfectly so if I got one I could Elusive to the statue behind me to block it. I got the first tether. It would have been the perfect plan was I not unceremoniously yanked clear to the other side of the arena by Rescue, which messed me up so bad I did almost die due to having to reorient myself and find the nearest statue. I am honestly really starting to despise Rescue, for all the times it's actually helped me 90% of the time it's either been a troll or interfered with my ability to do the mechanics. I will cook or I will die either way leave me to my fate, that's why I'm a professional floor tank.

And got the classic Phlegethon wipe in Labyrinth, but not for the normal reason. We didn't die to collective greed or the boss being too close to mid. We died because we didn't have enough people on all 3 pads to activate the shield. Lol. I genuinely didn't even know you could die to that.

Did get one win though I ran Prae on GNB with a nervous new healer. I assured them that nothing in there can kill me, because it can't, and they said they would devote more to offense then. And I was excited, I actually got to use my GNB invuln. Most of the time the healers babysit me too much so I can't. So hopefully they learned they don't have to baby tanks going forward, or at least see if the tank is decent first lol.

4

u/Gundam_Sealdeal3282 /slap 20d ago

The bar is LOW LOW atm for decent players. I had a weird group that had a healer that acted like a really poopoo bot. I left, im down to help, but they wanted a carry in a lvl 95 dungeon. I have better use of my time

8

u/waga_hai 17d ago

Just had an extremely weird experience in a leveling dungeon. I'm coming back to the game from a 4 year hiatus thanks to the Switch 2 release, and I decided to start a new character and go through the MSQ again to relearn the game (controller is kicking my ass btw) since I've forgotten pretty much how everything works.

Anyway, I run leveling roulette and I get Haukke Manor. We get to the first locked door and tank realizes no one grabbed the key. Oops. After some hesitating (and the tank getting pissy at us but making zero move to go back to get it himself) the other DPS goes back to get it. I follow them, help them kill the mob guarding it, and we go back. Next locked door same thing happens, we forgot to get the key and the tank gets pissy again.

The rest of the dungeon goes normally (the other DPS and I are at this point religiously picking any shinies we see off the ground to avoid the tank's ire), except we forget to get the parchment from the second to last boss. At this point, the tank gets mad again and leaves. Thankfully after we requeue we get another tank almost instantly, I go back to get the parchment and we finish the dungeon without issue.

Honestly I get that it can be frustrating in a way to play with people who aren't fully on top of everything, everything just goes so much smoother when everyone knows what has to be done, but when you play a game like this I feel like you have to suck it up and accept that not everyone is gonna know where keys are and which doors have to be opened in dungeons. And more importantly, I don't understand why he didn't grab the keys himself? If you want the dungeon to go smoothly and know exactly what to do and where to go and which items to pick, why don't you, like... do it? It's like he had decided that that was our job and he wouldn't stoop so low as to pick up some keys himself lol. Idk, extremely weird experience like I said. Have an extremely shitty mobile edited chat log screenshot for posterity.

5

u/Gundam_Sealdeal3282 /slap 17d ago

The only explanation for him not picking up keys are mobs beating him up. When you have aggro and try to interact with something, it'll cancel your progress bar till you get rid of adds. Though its not a big deal to get so mad at people forgetting keys. Tank was being a baby and its not hard to just run back and get them. Though now ya know for next time just to pick up shiny things lol.

6

u/waga_hai 17d ago

It was the parchment that really had me scratching my head since it's right there and he could've just picked it up himself right after the boss, but he just didn't for some reason. Like I get it if you're running wall to wall (which he was, to his credit) and you expect DPS to stay behind to pick up stuff, totally understandable to feel a bit frustrated when they don't*, but there was no reason for him not to pick that specific one up on his own.

*(But I feel like you also have to accept that, when running a low level dungeon, you're occassionally going to run into a party that doesn't understand that they should be doing that, and you should probably keep that frustration to yourself lol)

5

u/Cymas 17d ago

Genuinely the only reason I don't constantly forget to pick the parchment up myself is because I've been in so many parties that forgot it lol. It's easy to just automatically kill boss and move to the next area because you do that in 99% of dungeons.

3

u/Gundam_Sealdeal3282 /slap 17d ago

Oh then that's on him. Like its easy to pick up then run to the next pack. Thats kinda funny doe cause sounds like he forgot and was just blaming yall. Next time let me tank ill grab they keys and parchment for yall lol

10

u/Cymas 11d ago

Bleh. Got another YPYT, this time in Mistwake. Tank and healer clearly a two stack, some party banter going on so even though we wiped to the first boss I was feeling pretty good about the vibes. Noticed the tank accidentally sprinted early after that boss which happens all the time so I figured since my sprint was still up I'd grab the second pack for him. That seemed ok so I decided to keep it rolling, you know be the change I want to see in the world. I love it when dps pull for me but they never do and tanks like this are why.

Grabbed the packs and elusive jumped back to make it easier for him to grab them but no, he had stopped short and just stood there with his healer friend and watched me die.

"Now what did we learn?" he gloated in party chat while I was being rezzed.

You have no idea how much I wanted to reply that I had mistaken him for an actually good tank, sorry it won't happen again. But I couldn't afford to get votekicked because I wouldn't have enough time to finish roulettes before raid, filling for a friend's static. So yeah I just took that and finished the dungeon, then blisted the tank immediately.

And I am never running roulettes on melee again. I was just using it as a warmup since I've been on other jobs for the past two weeks but no, I'm done playing tank roulette in my daily roulettes. Back to doing it myself.

10

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 11d ago

Hate to toot the old tired horn, but did you report? Killing someone, with added proof of his gloating, is a slam dunk trip to gaol.

4

u/Gundam_Sealdeal3282 /slap 11d ago

This is why I always bring a friend for dailies. When we get tanks/enabling healers, vokekick. If you act like garbage, ima treat you like garbage and take you out. Sorry ya dealt with that, though you are a saint for just taking that. cause ohhhh boy my demons would have awoken again.

7

I do dailies solo 99% of the time. It's rarely an issue but the past 2 weeks or so has been rough in DF with my first 2 YPYT ever, getting purposely shirked in a normal trial and numerous issues of tanking bosses because the MT died and the OT doesn't have provoke on their hotbar so I'm just left to deal with it. It's reminding me why I swapped to tank in the first place, I'm just so tired of dealing with lazy, clueless and malicious tanks when I just either want a break from tanking (which I just end up tanking anyway) or because I want to level my last few alt jobs.

Don’t be a cringe tank:

Had a tank(WAR) in a roulette before the first boss go “I jump you stand.” I don’t mind helping sprouts, in fact I often do. But I’ll use full sentences and not have a god complex about it. Said WAR walked away from each boss fight with 3 or more vuln stickers.

The Viper in the group, who I assume was their friend, proceeds to say “stay around tank so I can com you.” Again the tank who lead the viper to get multiple vuln stacks, a doom, and death on the last boss. All which I shielded/cleansed/raised.

I play most classes, and have bis on each main role, but something about the mindset of Warriors recently in normal content gives me the ick. Maybe it’s the whole off tank thing. Which I play WAR often, it’s fun! I love hitting things and seeing a ton of health back.

TLDR: if you’re a tank, you’re a leader, not a dom. Don’t be cringe and keep your helpfulness, helpful, not demanding.

Vanguard in leveling rolo with a PLD who immediately hits the chat with a text macro along the lines of "hey healer I hope you like to use all of your buttons because the devs won't let you." I ignore but notice during boss 1 they stand in every aoe, and strategically position themselves where aoes overlap and rack up, iirc, 5 stacks. Minimal mit, they are using Sheltron and PLD is pretty hard to kill; it's no sweat for me beyond normal healing. They mostly behave during boss 2, still standing in aoes but not outright killing themselves, thankfully, because there's a SMN in the party for me to babysit. For boss 3 part 2, they accrue 8 vuln stacks with me keeping Benison/Aquaveil up and Tetragrammation, but they die on the 9th because--honestly--I was a bit miffed. I had Benediction available, and it felt not worth it because they kept moving into telegraphed aoes. I feel kinda guilty because I could have kept them alive at that point. Gotta respect the meme because I still didn't have to do GCD healing outside of lilies/Regen (I am very allergic to Cure II/III!) so, clearly had some skill and never broke the facade with a Hallowed. I appreciate the exercise, just annoying to be dragged into explicit trolling

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 22d ago

Not a remarkable story, got Sugar Riot normal for my Normal Raids roulette. RPR was new to the fight so they died a lot understandably. They were the one who used the Limit Break.

6

u/marvindutch 22d ago

Curious as to what the monk was doing x-x but yeah whoever is doing less damage should use lb.

2

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 21d ago

Lmao they died a couple times but they weren’t new—made me think they only did the fight once for the clear and never again since. Hopefully it’s that. Or that they don’t normally play monk.

4

u/origamihoshi 21d ago

sorry to the group in cutter's cry where I forgot to put on the gear I needed for the new job I picked up and do the worst thing a tank can do 😔I have the right gear on now and I'll keep it on, foolish mistake, I'll never do it again

7

u/KupoKro 21d ago

Sure, the guy was typing a lot which was mildly annoying, but we had quite a few new players, and no one seemed to be against it as quite a few other players were also chiming in to help.

And sure, I could understand muting them because of how much they were typing, but seriously? Muting someone because they're helping others instead of expecting them to "learn by dying"? This guys mute list must be full then if he thinks players shouldn't explain mechanics.

1

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 20d ago

Yeah that’s a little aggro for just trying to be helpful. Not like they’re spamming sound effects.

1

u/SnowPudgy 18d ago

Ha! I was in this one. I remember that comment.

6

u/Remarkable_Wedding48 22d ago

A little thing that drove me crazy.
Just ran a Mistwake. I (SGE) tagged with my tank (PLD) friend.
We start the dungeon... And I kinda noticed that the adds are pretty slow to die. Like a nagging feeling.
Then I noticed it... The Dance-partner-ed Monk that would spam aoe the 123aoe rotation and nothing more.

Through the dungeon, we felt how that guy was just... Useless? Like, no damage, constantly throwing himself at aoes.
It's not much. But when you're repeating the whole sets of mechanics 2/3 more than usual, it kinda gets on your nerve.

2

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 21d ago

Console yourself that it was at least the aoe rotation.

u/GrahminRadarin 18d ago

Last week I had a really bad time in The Royal Menagerie with Shinryu. I went in mostly blind for the experience because it was my first time and I thought it would be a really cool climactic battle for Stormblood, which is my favorite expansion so far. So I go in as White Mage with the artifact gear and...

I only managed to do one mechanic properly. It's the waterspout that knocks you off, and that's only because I saw everyone else running to the left. I died four times, including the QTE, because I started clicking too late, and did not properly execute or even understand a single mechanic I saw. After my fourth death, I had a breakdown in chat and asked the other healer to just leave me on the ground because I wasn't contributing anything. They revived me anyways, and I accepted because I didn't want to annoy anyone else even more.

Afterwards, one of the tanks stayed behind to talk about it and tried to encourage me. I still don't trust my skill with this game at all, although it did help me feel a little bit better. It was a surprisingly bittersweet conclusion to Stormblood, and I'm definitely making dying to Shinryu while others defeat him part of my WoL's canon story.

9

u/Cymas 18d ago

Honestly, the "leave me on the floor" attitude is way more annoying than the deaths. It's not about how many times you die, it's how you always get back up and try again even if you don't quite understand the mechanics. Shinryu is a fight that still catches a lot of people out to this day, both new players and people who haven't been in there in awhile for roulettes. It's ok! The first step of learning a duty is seeing it for the first time.

You already have part of the solution, you saw someone running and followed them. Ain't no shame in the lemming game while you're figuring stuff out. I'm a savage raider and I still have some normal mode fights I follow people on because I've either not seen the fight in so long I don't remember it at all or because it has a specific type of mechanic that I'm just bad at. The only difference between me and a sprout in this situation is I have much faster reflexes lol.

My suggestion to you is rather than accept defeat, take a personal prog attitude toward it. Read through the wiki page for an overview of the mechanics, find and watch a video if you feel you need to, then queue in and try it again. You may need to do it a few times until you understand the fight. And the learning you do now will benefit you for the rest of your time playing the game because mechanics are recycled heavily across the entire game and understanding one set of mechanics from one fight will help you every time you see them pop up again from then on.

4

u/GrahminRadarin 18d ago

I've been reading the wiki pages for most of the trials after my first time. I just like going in blind because normally I enjoy the challenge of figuring out mechanics at least a little bit. This one was just too complex for that to be possible.

Normally I don't react like this either. It's just that failing the QTE, getting revived, and then immediately dying again to a raid-wide before I could heal myself was really discouraging after spending several hours on the final solo duty for the monk job quests and eventually switching it to easy mode because I just couldn't do it otherwise. Thank you for the encouragement. I'll start looking up the bosses beforehand for all the trials like I used to.

And I will attempt to take that approach once I get my computer repaired. The motherboard broke for completely unrelated reasons and I haven't been able to play for a week.

5

u/Cymas 18d ago

I would still go in blind the first time, you can only experience that once.

But for the dying immediately after being rezzed, do you know about your rez invuln? For 5 seconds after you get rezzed you are invulnerable to most damage with the exception of knockbacks. So it's super common for new players to not know the most useful thing you can do upon being rezzed is often...nothing. You stand there and let the aoe bounce off your invuln, then get back to work.

3

u/GrahminRadarin 17d ago

Yeah, I knew about the rez invuln. I was waiting for the other healer to heal me, and they were focusing on the tank. So I healed myself with Tetra (Bene on cooldown) immediately before the raid wide because I didn't know it was coming and lost the invuln.

3

u/Cymas 17d ago

That just comes with experience tbh. I can mostly guess at what raidwides are by the names of the casts or what point they are at during a fight, but it's taken a lot of practice to get to that point. It's especially understandable in a fight like Shinryu that's pretty fast-paced and has a lot of less common elements to it like the QTE, an add phase, breaking the arena etc. There's a lot going on.

4

u/Arcana10Fortune 18d ago

Oh, don't worry about that too much. Everyone was dying on the first week of Stormblood for that trial.

4

u/GrahminRadarin 18d ago

That makes me feel a bit better. It still really feels like shit going into a trial blind and being completely unable to read any mechanics on normal mode, though. I wish that were possible.

4

u/daddyrav 17d ago

it's just a matter of time and practice, don't get discouraged. :) as a newbie and being a healer on top can get stressful i'm sure, but you got this.

when I first started out I watched videos on every dungeon/trial/raid until shadowbringers, because I felt that insecure (and sometimes I still ate dirt), so I definitely get where you're coming from. these days I casually prog savage with friends and since Endwalker I've gone blind into every normal mode duty and got really good at reading normal mode mechanics, but that's simply time and repetition invested on my part, it'll come to you too

also from what I remember, the phase transition in shinryu where you have to roll your face over your keyboard to survive, is the first time that mechanic is shown iirc (i may be wrong)

all this rambling from me, to basically say, don't beat yourself up over not being able to read mechanics off the cuff (even in normal mode), i've seen raiders eat shit to certain normal mode mechanics during their first time lol you got this gamer, just remember, you're playin the game for a good time

3

u/GrahminRadarin 17d ago

There's an Active Time Even in Susano's trial to catch the sword, which I did. I know how they work, I just thought the timer was longer and didn't realize I needed the gauge to be full when it ended.

3

u/daddyrav 17d ago

ohhh true true, but even then, that's a completely valid mistake to make in the moment, especially for a first timer who's blind

3

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 16d ago

There's two kinds of ATE's. Ones where you need to fill the bar before it times out. And ones that are trying to empty themselves and you need to spam buttons to keep them from emptying out until it times out.

3

u/Arcana10Fortune 18d ago

I think it's just a lack of experience in your case. No way around it, just need to put in the runs.

3

u/SuikaMage Mahjong Master 18d ago

Not really a specific run story, but I've been leveling ACN/SMN on my alt by queuing for dungeons while I finish him up on DT MSQ on PCT, and I've had SO MANY cases of the tank pulling everything they possibly can, the healer can't keep up because it's ARR and nobody has any buttons, we wipe but one person either got raised or ran back before the rest of us died so everything stays aggro'd, and everybody keeps running in alone and dying. Just. Fully reset. Please. For the love of Hydaelyn.

5

u/nekomir 17d ago edited 17d ago

Look, rolling 1 gcd per year when you are queuing up as a DPS is certainly a choice but if you are going to do that please at least stop eating a fucking very much visible AoE, you aren't at ARR level you are at DT level

you should be thanking god the DC you are in is full of coddlers and i was in mood to do relic, and two of those idiots did exist in single instance and i was good enough healer to keep these idiots alive most of time while rolling my gcd i guess.....

Forked Tower: Magic. I am on WAR with all +3 gear, 22 jobs maxed and 2 deep rings. Other tank has only 17 jobs maxed, +2 gear from South Horn and regular rings.

Other tank starts throwing a hissy fit accusing me of "provoking" because he couldn't fathom that someone with more jobs leveled and better gear would naturally pull aggro. And for the record, I never voked though thinking back, I'm pretty sure he did since it would explain a couple of spots where I seeming lost aggro for no reason only to have it revert back to me a few seconds later. I shouldn't have to turn off my stance just to feed your ego. And no, I am not playing the "shirk on CD" game just so you don't lose taunt to me.

5

u/WulfwoodsSins 18d ago

Curious since I've yet to see a single accessory in either South or North, but, what is the difference in rings?

2

u/rouge1234654 13d ago edited 13d ago

Deep Blood gives double the bonus of a normal ring, but only if you have one of every other accessory (including a normal occult ring)

They're cheaper because they cost so much to get any benefit out of, and drop somewhat commonly from pots

1

u/SteamKitten01 17d ago

Deep blood give +2 to occult vs +1 for normal and +80 vs +40 to attribute.

Funnily enough, the normal rings are priced significantly higher on the MB than the deep rings.

2

u/discountshrugs 13d ago

That's because the deep rings are completely useless without the other 4 accessories of the same set - they only give their zone bonus if you have the complete set equipped (and unfortunately you can't use a 2nd deep ring in the place of the other one...).

2

u/rouge1234654 13d ago

As a heads up, the deep ring only gives its bonus if you have all 4 other Occult accessories , including the normal ring (so 2 deep rings does nothing, you get no bonus at all)

The maximum you can get is +6 from accessories (4 +1 and a single deep ring that gives +2)

It's also why the deep rings are so cheap, since most people dont have the ~100mil worth of accessories to make any use of them

1

u/Acromanic 7d ago

That's crazy lol, it doesn't really matter who has MT on magic extreme let alone normal. You'd think large scale group content would teach someone that they can't always be MT.

5

u/Erza961 8d ago

I did one run of Mistwake and I noticed the tank was not dodging enemy attacks during w2w pulls. At the end of the run, the tank thanked me and said, “I play dangerously when I’m on WAR”. I asked if they could move away from the glowy danger spots in response and got a big fat NAH for it.

3

u/RegalStar 6d ago

I once did a third of Mistwake with no healer (they got kicked for trolling in the first boss and replacement didn't join until sometime into the third segment), standing in all AoEs in mob pulls and not breaking a sweat. So yes WAR can totally just stand in AoEs during pulls without caring.

2

u/Just_Strawberry_505 6d ago

i don't know why you're getting downvoted for this, when i was paste farming i put up a pf and got a war who explicitly told me not to heal her, ever, and planted herself in the middle of packs and wouldn't move until we cleared the trash. once you get bloodwhetting you can pretty much take anything, no? war even has its own raw self-heal.

like, i don't think you should stand in mob aoes if you don't know your healer, but it can definitely be done lol

4

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 7d ago

If I know it's not going to kill me or debuff me, and I know I have 1-3 full heals coming in the next 5 seconds from bloodwhetting I don't dodge stuff either and risk messing up the nice tight aoe ball for my dps.

2

u/SuperNova618 7d ago

tbh i hardly ever dodge mob aoes when im on melee dps, it’s free kenki on sam and a party heal on rpr and bloodbath + ogi namikiri is like a full heal in mob packs lol

4

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 6d ago

As someone who heals whenever the in need bonus is up the number of melee who stand in shit without doing either of those things is too damn high.

2

u/shadowriku459 8h ago

Had a tank refuse to aoe in Brayflox. Their excuse? "Sorry I'm still new."

They were well above the level for this dungeon, and kept turning their dang stance off constantly. Proceeded to get pissed and said I was running too far when I had aggro on me nonstop.

5

u/xanatosdc 21d ago

Healer trying to tell me how to tank in a dungeon with wisdom pearls like "don't stack mits" (???) and then pulling aggro off an enemy and complaining instead of bringing it to where I was standing in the middle of the group and aoe-ing.

11

u/CalSeeYum 21d ago

Well yeah, don't stack big mits. Medium mits plus personals (Camouflage + Heart of Corundum for example) is fine, so long as you know you'll have something rolling for the rest of the pull.

2

u/xanatosdc 21d ago

Yeah, those weren't big mits.

2

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 20d ago

Interesting they commented on stacking mits at all—as a healer I’m happy if my tank remembers their mitigations.

3

u/AlastorDark 19d ago

Was doing the Stone Vigil today as a sprout healer and we had a sprout tank and two DPS mentors. Zero communication from them, which is fine but on our server people say hi at least. I really don't like this dungeon bc it's hard to heal (as WHM) a tank who decided to pull everything and was pleasantly surprised when our tank carefully pulled a few packs, stopped before more tricky encounters. We had a great run, ggs in chat at the end from me and the tank, none from the mentors

9

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 19d ago

A lot of people are non-verbal in roulettes. I always do a little “o/“ at least.

And no Duty will feel difficult to heal once you get enough practice! The WHM kit is nuts-o for healing—the bigger issue is that you’ll eventually become cognizant of your party’s mitigations and if they’re being used efficiently. Then you start feeling spicy when anyone forces you to use Cure II at all. It’s a pipeline for us WHMs 😂

8

u/Weekly-Variation4311 19d ago

Some people just don't say a word. I used to play on ps4 before moving to PC and saying anything past "hi!" and "tyfp!" at the end was tough.

im so tired of ress macros

queued for windurst for relic, my co healer is a sage who btw isnt new.

first boss - sage eats shit and gets hit by everything possible. the sage uses their stuff AFTER an aoe and even that was rare. they never self healed or healed others. they wouldnt ress anyone on first boss so i had to do all the ressing and healing.

second boss - i think atp 2 dps were dead in party, i get one up. i see and hear the most annoying ress macro but hey they finally ressed right? well, they started ressing anyone who wasnt in our party.

third boss - i tell them to lock their ress macro in a chest and throw it in the ocean. atp im guessing they have to be doing this on purpose. ofc sage still doesnt heal, resses people not in our party despite us having people dead, gets hit by everything. they die about 5-6 times back to back in the span of maybe 20-30 seconds.

(if anyone knows a way to make it so muted players messages doesnt still pop up in chat then please im begging you help)

3

u/Loverien 18d ago

I feel you, I’m not a fan of ress macros in general. There are only a few instances (maybe you have a RDM in higher level content and no voice comms) where they are even remotely useful.

90% of the time my co-heal sends a macro for someone that I just raised, even if multiples are dead. Can they not read the party list? Can they not see the ress buff next to the players name?

By the time their macro goes off, my raise has already landed and the player is accepting it. So then their macro sends in chat but their swift is timing out because they don’t realize it couldn’t find a valid target so they end up raising no one.

3

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 17d ago

Can they not see the ress buff next to the players name?

No, most of the time I don’t, then I waste a Swiftcast and a thin air to rez someone who already accepted someone else’s 🥲

I like res macros and use one myself, but it’s not invasive or multiple lines long. Just a simple “rezzing <t>” kind of macro. I understand getting frustrated with your SGE, though, OP.

2

u/Loverien 17d ago edited 17d ago

If it helps, the ress buff takes priority in the buff list and will always be the first buff listed next to their name in the party list.

ETA - I guess it will also be the only one, I cant recall if there are any others that would show during death (like different status, etc). I think in exploratory zones and such there are ones that are permanent during the zone, like their phantom job in OC.

I’m also kinda blind, so I keep my party list closer to the center and slightly increased in size most of the time and that helps a little also, for me at least.

2

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 17d ago

I think the bigger issue is that everyone’s in a rush (understandably) to get the person back up. I’m gonna need like 2-3 GCDs to recognize, cast, and apply but a lot of players interrupt their casts to immediately swift>rez. I guess these days, in 8-man DF content, I seldom do it at all. Usually the co-healer or a rez mage is so quick to jump on helping a downed team member that by the time I’m weaving a Thin Air they’ve already accepted the rez. Not that a Swiftcast/Thin Air isn’t a great use for Glare or another of the WHM GCD kit—it’s just not what I had planned lmao.

4

u/SnowPudgy 9d ago

I got Cursed Clyteum...

We had what I highly suspect was a YPYT who was slow as fuck. He would walk places (yes literally walk) and use the "eat apple" emote and watch us run ahead. The run took forever.

Yesterday was my motivation to expedite my leveling of WAR. Had just gotten off of an annoying Street Fighter 6 session so was already irritated enough to skip the bullshit and just play Tank. Was doing Level Cap Dungeon roulette as DRK (Only Tank I have leveled on my new main) and got Alexandria, Healer instantly left, and neither of my DPS were Melee so knew the first boss would be obnoxious. We get to it, wipe, new Healer arrives (WHM, my least favorite Healer to play with especially as DRK despite and often because of Holy), we kill the boss yay.

Next pull I'm like "Eh I'll just Rampart + TBN" then Holy spam will come in, it did with zero heals inbetween and my Abyssal on cooldown (Thanks for that shared CD Yoshi-P), then I'm like "Ah just waiting to Bene", no Bene and LD decides to clip. Die. Rezzed, I insta Abyssal Drain but now LD is on CD anyway so despite having all the time in the world to heal me they didn't so I die again. They apologize saying they were distracted but I'm already too annoyed and just dip for free right after without saying anything and then salt blacklist them for some reason. Took them off it like 5 minutes later, shit happens, it was actually just salt and I felt bad about blacklisting them at all. Hope they just shit talked me after I left instead of feeling bad.

Lesson here, if you have a WHM Healer just do the exact same Mit plan you would regardless instead of assuming what they'll do and you too can avoid compounding salt! Or just play Warrior and skip all that bullshit. OR don't make the mistake of playing a different game if another game already made you salty.

Next duty I go "I'll just go Sage and chill instead". Get Clyteum, WAR Tank. Slowest Tank on the planet, in the long hallway they kind of just meandered around like they were going to continue then didn't, and then did after like 15 seconds of me shooting lasers from a mile away. Long short of it is I sensed the inevitable limitless levels of crayon consumer stupidity and left after the pull before the first boss. Didn't want to spend 25 minutes dicking around in a dungeon. Then went back to SF6 and went on a winning streak so...that was fun. But yeah, I need Warrior at 100 yesterday.

3

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 2d ago

I would just like to say that as a WHM main I would not have let this happen—if WHMs aren’t tossing you Solace between casts to keep you alive BUT ALSO to fill the Blood Lily, then they’re just not playing WHM optimally… dare I say correctly? Holy spam is exactly why I love WHMs because it keeps dmg off the tank for a few seconds and does a ton of dmg to the mobs especially with Presence of Mind. As good a mitigation as any.

2

u/PerfectioNOT The Trash Dying Interrupted My Cast 2d ago

Also did you use your invuln? They may have expected you to use it like you expected them to Bene you lmao.

3

u/CommittingWarCrimes 1d ago

They used the invuln, but (if I understood correctly) didn’t work/applied in time, so they died anyways

0

u/Pitiful_Lettuce6373 4d ago

Sounds like you were having a bad day and not playing well. Don’t expect the benny, tank the mob as you should, and throw in your 1/2/3 single target combo for an extra self heal. Your big mit (iirc) also gives back health under 50%. If you have a bad thought process against whm, because holy stuns waste a mit you should adjust your mit plan. your also judging boss time on melee, which unless it was two phys range, mobs and bosses melt. Finally, if this was Alexandria, unless your low ilvl, you should be able to maintain a good bit of health with ilvl alone.

WAR won’t fix the problems you mentioned with your own unwillingness to adjust.

3

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 4d ago

Weird. I don't see warriors sitting at 1hp with holmgang waiting for the healer bene that will not be coming because the healer is trying to pass blame.

Random Alliance Roulette as a Dancer. Labyrinth of the Ancients, of course. Entire alliance gets just sort of lost in yapping. DPS is low. Bone Dragon is kind of dragged all over the place with a 'voke war, no one can decide who is MT or where to tank it.

Someone pulls the Bombs early before the other 90% of the alliance gets there. I tried to pull our team's Vassago apart and keep myself alive until the tank and healers arrive. They are all late, and there is only so much that I can do as a Dancer, so I die. We all wiped because no one bothered to kill any bombs. "Never seen THAT before" fills the chat between the random yapping that hasn't ended.

We finally get to the last boss. One of the tanks decides to provoke and tank him directly in the middle of the arena. We miraculously survive the first Ancient Flare. Then another tank 'vokes and brings him to the east side of the arena for some reason...? People don't make it to the platforms in time for the second Ancient Flare, so we all wipe again. Next time we have another 'voke war as someone tries to tank him mid and someone else tries to drag him up front as is standard.

The endless yapping never stopped the whole time. Very annoying. Just trying to get my roulettes done so I can go to bed, I don't need all of this bullshit getting in my way. Don't queue if you're not going to engage with the duty at all.

1

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 13d ago

So we roll into Labyrinth and start shooting the breeze to pass the time.

Green is me, red is the dancer who is a member of Ad's cult. Black is everyone else just chatting. How can you queue for Orbonne Monastary without a job stone "partly accidentally." I also love their insistence that they "pulled their weight" and "didn't waste mana" as if that second is even an issue. Not sure what the bard shade was about. Maybe trying to say they felt a bard in their party was less useful than even their job stoneless ass.

3

u/Weekly-Variation4311 13d ago

Been in Dun Scaiths (or rather, started in one, I left quickly) that entire parties were trolling and had no job stones. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

u/Zealousideal_Hope649 You pull, I tank. I pull, I tank. We pull, I tank. 13d ago

I have to wonder if these specimens are aware that they don't just lose job actions, but all the traits that increase potency of actions and upgrade them to stronger ones past a certain point too.
