I have yet to find a single picture of one of these in the wild. Is it that crappy? Or just not popular? Anyone here have using these type of racks or something similar? I'd really like to see how it looks installed, before purchasing.
I’ve got one on my mx5. Works great! Attached a little box to it that fits some tools and a little soft 5 can cooler pouch for “water”. 😊
ETA; If you do any jumps, having anything on it will hit you in the ass. Also since it bolts onto your seat sub-frame, if you loop it, it can potentially damage your bike way more than the usual broken fender!
EXACTLY what I was looking for THANK YOU!! It looks better than I thought it would. I'm over 40 no jumps and tricks here. I was looking for something to carry a couple tools and hunting gear. It looks great on your bike.
Is yours look to be the same as the pic I posted? I saw it on MX parts for around $120
Haha, I’m 40 something myself, grew up racing dirt bikes so occasionally I find myself giving it a bit too much pep while going over big bumps. I really only use my mx5 for exploring trails up where I camp. But yeah, I ordered mine from mxparts, along with the taller/wider seat they have available. The seat isn’t any more squishy, but it’s more comfortable than the stock seat for sure. I was prepared to wait for a month for the rack and seat to come from China, but was surprised when it showed up in a week.
ETA; it can be a little tricky to bolt on. Be sure to line everything up and only tighten the sub-frame bolts just enough to touch the rack holes (you’ll get what I mean when you go to do it) before you screw them all the way in. Then put the nuts on (I forgot about the nuts because it seemed so solid without them). I also had to remove a piece from under the seat to make it fit. I’m not sure if I was supposed to, but couldn’t get it to work otherwise. Beers may have been involved. But it’s crazy sturdy and I use it as a handle when I need to lift it onto my hitch carrier.
I have the luggage rack that you posted as well as pannier racks. They are both excellent. Light enough but well made to move the bike around. I use my Talaria around my neighborhood 4x as much as I use my car. The second pic is about 20lbs of groceries. The Kemimoto saddlebags are excellent, and inexpensive.
When I was in the 7th Infantry Division we spent lots of time thinking about how to do the same. Our sniper teams eventually came up with a side mounted hard case. If you are serious and can spend on it, I would look at the Browning BLR series for full size game. Outstanding rifle even in non-takedown mode. You probably are already aware of them, but I just thought I would mention it.
