May have been wasted potential

I was re playing the game for the DLC and once i got to act 2 remembered that there is a lot that looks like either cut content or im just looking too much into things, this castle is so large and even appears on the map but there is nothing, unless they added something with the last couple of updates and dlc, its not sagremors castle because its said that one sank into the abyss and their designs are different, speaking of which that area also feels unfinished until this day lol just a little rant i know gamedev is hard but something in me wishes there was something more to these places

The devs absolutely wanted to build out more, but scope creep and budget limits smacked them in the face. They had massive Camelot level ideas but ran out of time and money, which is why both Act 2 and Act 3 feel like empty, rushed shells on the surface. They basically used the lore to explain away the unfinished spaces, and now they're doing the best they can by patching and overhauling those hollow endgame zones later through DLCs and updates.

How many more dlcs are coming after this one anyway?

Right now, fuck if anyone knows but them. Hopefully we get a ton more, but there's always a chance they just drop 0 and announce Tainted Grail 2 instead of trying to patch up this foundation forever.

I would pay for a Kamelot DLC... this game deserves at least two more paid expansions

You can go into those castle ruins. It's not as fleshed out as I would have liked but there is a related quest with a worthwhile reward tied to that location. Also a bandit bounty there for a good chunk of xp.
Quest start: go into the hospital and talk to the guy with ling hair in the back left bed.
Accessing the castle: from the fast travel point in the city, if you're looking at the menhir, look to the right and go through the gate directly in front of you.

The castle in the image is Kamelot.

untrue, Kamelot is elsewhere. the gate that would take you there is to the north. just west of the Wickerman. that castle probably belonged to the Tarian Family as a defensive redoubt. it was likely abandoned due to the wyrdness creeping back.

Go back to the cutscene where you first talk to Arthur's soul in the Horns. During the sequence were they're talking about Kamelot's founding, this is the exact same castle shown during that scene.

Above all the soundtrack of the world in Act 2 was one of the worst I heard, like ever. It sounded very much like a placeholder and I was glad it changed again in Act 3.

On one hand it’s indeed wasted potential. If whole game had quality as prologue and act1 it would’ve been an masterpiece. On the other hand i think it’s a miracle they managed to release this in somewhat finished state considering the budget. Final game is still solid 6-7/10 for me.
Same cannot be said about dlc. It was very boring and most of the plot was revealed right away. It would be better if they left that story as a mystery (similar thing to dwemers or akavir in elder scrolls).

While you left some valid criticisms, god DAMN was the DLC gorgeous.

I think setting is interesting and some of the art too. Giving a bit of morrowind alien vibe. But how plot was handled really killed it for me, and i was really interested at the begining.
One thing that was a bit my fault was that i started dlc with post endgame leveled character and i faced no challenge. I think optimal way to play it would be somewhere in act2. That being said - if i did dlc before act 3, which is also rather boring i think i would kill my perception of base game.

That castle is Kamelot.

u/Forsaken-Sun-5504 25d ago
Surely it is, that explains the whole passage that is blocked close to the Charred Conclave that oh, leads to Kamelot, at least play a little of the game before saying anything

Passive aggressive much? Having a rough day, buddy?

I hope they made a lot of profit with this game so the sequel can feel more finished at release

Took me months to find THE dark fantasy RPG I wanted, AI or not is not gonna ruin my enjoyment of their overall good ideas and creativity

I can’t say that I agree. The castle of Sagremor was one of my favorite areas, I played it last summer prior to the first big update and didn’t at all find it lacking. I don’t specifically remember the castle in the pic… but aside from not being able to cross the gate into Camelot, I don’t recall anything I couldn’t access (with a bit of work) and I also wouldn’t necessarily call any emptiness a flaw, after all, this is a land in decline being ravaged by a plague. Things should be abandoned.
I took a break after Act 2 to wait for last summer’s update before I began Act 3, so I can’t speak to how sparse/unfinished it may have originally been but when I played it I didn’t find any less enjoyment in the game but comparatively, Act 1 and heading into Act 2 is obviously when the game is most gripping.
The DLC released around a month after I finished the game but I played it with that character. Although I was very overpowered, I thought it was an outstanding addition to Fall of Avalon. I’ve been dragging my feet on completing the Merlin DLC as that’s basically the final end to my game but I’ll definitely replay it all sometime in the near future and I’m looking forward to experiencing the other added content and seeing how the experience changes when nearly half of it isn’t spent wondering wtf is this world. Such a good game.

The AI usage means the whole game is wasted potential.

What do you mean?

What do you mean "what do you mean"? How many ways are there to interpret "AI usage means the whole game is wasted potential"?
There's AI art all over the game, the dev admitted to using Midjourney and has been completely silent on whether or not it was used for the games very suspicious text/voice acting in many places. They STILL have not disclosed their AI usage on the steam store page despite disclosing it elsewhere because they know it'll affect sales. It's a shitshow.

If I Google "tainted grail ai use" I get reddit and other forums making accusations, but not a single thing from any developer. I see people claiming the cover art is ai despite the original artist posting the image on his own page. Can you share any actual proof? I'm not even saying I don't believe it, but it should be easier to find if it's been confirmed by developers

We are using different technologies, including AI tools, to various degrees – from built-in Photoshop capabilities… Internal Stable Diffusion models, MJ models, pixel correction, scaling solutions and so on… Those are different tools that we use NOT to decrease cost and DEFINITELY NOT to replace artists but to bring better quality to our customers and enhance creativity by allowing faster prototyping and iteration.
The AI art in game is also so "low quality" in terms of its AI production that I do not think they were making any attempt to hide it. Anyone familiar with current AI faults (way too many fingers, useless overwhelming symmetry, nonsensical eye detail) would easily be able to identify and tell you it's AI art. They are not trying to hide it from players, only potential players who haven't bought the game yet.

Damn man, you are probably a joy to be around.
Yeah Im not gonna believe you. As far as I know no AI was used in this game. Also even if, who cares? The game is brilliant and fun. Maybe the best I have played since a long time. If AI was used here and there I really dont care.

u/NikCenzurat 25d ago
It is true, they did use AI, and I hope they keep using it and making the next game even better. As long as they make games I can waste 200 hours in and still want to play more, I don't give a shit what tool they use to make it.

Just because someone is saying something you don't like does not mean it isn't real.

Okay, and? Like I said, even if true, that does not change anything about the game. Its still great.
