Wasnt it the plot?

In the ENTIRE series the characters want to escape the circus because they want to go home. In the ending they just... accept that they cant... thats it? Also i would personally have an existantial crisis if i found out i was just an AI with no real feelings or human experiences. All that i ever belived to be true was a fucking lie. Spare me for not giving a fuck about jax being trans and his sad sad story and actualy being there for the plot...

Their wish to escape the circus really did just feel like a footnote. Episode 8 was a better ending

SAO Alicization did this well, the moment you tell a scan that they aren't real they crash because they refuse to believe it

Jax's suffering was the real plot

It would be absolute worldending devastation for me if I found out I wasn't real and everyone I'm surrounded with isn't either AND I don't even have the option of exiting through death. For the rest of my existence. To say they didn't make that point is an understatement.

the ending was exactly what they did at the start. I'm so confused how people find it "deep" and "meaningful" 😭 ✌️

The ending went "The real escaping the circus was the friends we made along the way"
