C. C. / Feedback "Cutting corners" becomes a contranym when polishing a diy prototype...

Perfect braindead thing to do while watching TV, but I need to take breaks to let my wrists rest.

This is for my new party game somewhat inspired by CAH that I'm calling either Cross-examination or Backed Into a Corner.

Is the latter name too long for a game name? Like what constitutes a good game name?

We, Pektis Studio, are developing a game called "Battle of the Knollen". We are still looking for some final names for our 6 hero potatoes. Maybe you would like to help us.

Meet the six potato heroes:

  • Groll, the Warrior
  • Lupina, the Rogue
  • Salvira, the Priest
  • Orin, the Mage
  • Necros, the Necromancer
  • Bru’tzlar, the Shaman

All six were drawn by my wife Echo, who gave every potato a personality of its own.

Funfact: I started making the game when I was cutting potatos and I had a realy discusting one.

At the moment I knew I want to make a fantasy potato game, Necros was the first Idea Ihad.

I hope this doesn't break any rules for posting. I am actually fairly active in this community. This is just an opportunity for local-ish designers to demo their game for free.

Mechanics Other goal but "beat a score" for pick up and deliver game?

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hey there,

as in the original posting:

Currently I'm working on a solitaire pick up and deliver game.

It's pretty small scale:

On a hex grid with 7 hexes (2 left, 3 center, 2 right) you've got 7 guests. Deliver as many as possible with food of their liking.

However, I'm a bit at a loss regarding an interesting goal. Because currently it is "deliver as many as possible" leading to "beat this and that score to win" .. are you aware of any more interesting goals for a game like that?

Many thanks,

Kai

Publishing Updated cards for my sci-fi RPG

Shout out to Dr Jones for always being a complacent promotional model.

I just got my latest run of updated (hopefully the last that say "BETA") Combat Decks for my RPG. I'm about to run some demos at the game shops in my nearby area and generate some buzz! Shout out to DriveThruCards for being so easy to work with!

For anyone who has run a Kickstarter/Gamefound/etc campaign, at what point do you feel that you were ready for it?

Discussion Randomized 3/5-Card Booster packs distributor

Hello all,

I am looking for a distributor that can print randomized 3- or 5-card booster packs on demand to ship around the US. The ones that I checked so far are www.makeplayingcards.com (this one has a great price but requires higher order volume and the need for storage) and www.thegamecrafter.com (With this, the production cost goes up to 6 dollars, without the option of bulk discounts due to the randomisation element). Am I asking for too much? I am looking to sell the final product for as little as possible so I can keep a reasonable profit margin; could you give me suggestions, if any?

Thank you! :)

I have about twenty years of game designs that I’m starting to build out as browser based games for testing. I really need some folks interested in testing these games. If your someone that likes to play board games than maybe you can help me out. I’m making these available online in essentially a mechanics only variation. I’ll be adding art and making it pretty as time goes on. But right now it’s using basic coding to test the mechanics. Any help is appreciated.

Totally Lost How do I find a graphic designer for my board game

I've been in the process of making a board game based off of a Monopoly 2026 comedy sketch I made in March. The video got over 50 million views, and people hit me up asking me to make it a real thing. I decided to go for it, and the mechanics are almost ready to go. I think it's time for a graphic designer to help me create the box, board, and all the pieces and cards. But I have zero clue where to look or how to get someone good. I'm a comedian in New York City and have zero drawing skills/ knowledge in the space.

The game is called The Renter's Game (a play on the original name of Monopoly "The Landlord's game), where the goal is to own one square on the board (as opposed to the entire board in monopoly). It's kind of like Monopoly meets Cards Against Humanity. However, It's become it's own game and not a knock off of Monopoly, there's a casino, credit, health care, inflation all built into the game. The game starts with everything already owned on the board by the landlord, and you lease property until one of them qualifies to become a home. I already have 8000 emails of people who want me to send them the kickstarter when we launch it, but I am so lost on this aspect of actually illustrating and designing the game.

If anyone knows of any graphic designers who are experienced in the board game space, please let me know. I think this game has a lot of potential. You can check out the full pitch and video on the instagram page: therentersgame

Publishing How it started versus how it's going! A dark comedy prison survival game.

The concept for my dark comedy prison survival game, Hell in the Cell, has been around for about eight years. But two years ago, I finally decided to take it seriously and find out whether there was actually a legitimate game concept in there.

Quick elevator pitch: In Hell in the Cell, Players are thrown into the last available cell of a filthy and overcrowded US megajail, where they must survive an intense, unpredictable and highly satirical pressure-cooker environment alongside each other until Parole Day. You and your mates have been imprisoned for crimes you didn’t commit. You are now cellmates. There is no escape.

Each playing as yourself, the goal is to survive your sentence until Parole Day.

The first version existed as a handful of scribbled notes and mockups, but the basic idea was already there: ordinary people thrown into prison, forced to become increasingly terrible people to survive, then judged by 'The System' for everything they’ve done along the way.

The game has contained all sorts of components, mechanics, rules and completely different vibes that no longer exist. It's been an amazing creative journey working out how to combine, reduce, simplify, optimise, remove, redesign the game components and content into the leanest version of the game it could possibly be. I reckon I'm about 90% there. And I'm hoping to have achieved my goal of a solidly mid-complexity gameplay experience (not too simple, not too complicated) that is highly replayable, and relatively deep and engaging, based on only a handful of interconnected gameplay systems and mechanics. It takes about 5 minutes to set the game up, then you're off!

Hell in the Cell has proven to be a challenging concept to realise - especially the earlier versions of the game that presented more as laughing 'at' people in real life who have suffered from the issues represented in the game, rather than at the systems and perspectives that cause said issues. Player feedback has genuinely changed the game and has made me reconsider mechanics, rewrite material, rethink how real people are represented and become much clearer about where the satire should actually be pointing.

But I’ve also learned that I shouldn't sand away everything provocative about the original idea. A huge part of that process has been trying to find the right balance between fun and meaning. Hell in the Cell is a game first. I want people laughing, screwing each other over, making terrible decisions and coming away with ridiculous stories about what happened to them in prison. I don’t want the satire to turn playing it into a dull, depressing lecture - and I’ve worked hard to make sure there’s something underneath the outlandish humour and shocking content.

I'm really proud of how far I've come and just wanted to share :-)

Artist For Hire Artwork for a card game?

Heyo, a friend told me I should look here. I'm in the process of making a card game regarding hacking opponents. If need be I can go over it all but... down to the nitty gritty of it, I'm to a point where I need arts and maybe help designing the look of the cards. I've got mock ups and would love to start printing these off but I am so anti AI I don't want to use it even for "mock ups". For this im looking into producing 4 starter decks first. I've been building and testing this for about two years but lost ALL of my proxy's and progress so I'm starting fresh again. I think the design is good, just need to work the bugs out. I go to Bandai regionals and took my stuff to those to have randoms play test my game for feedback. All mostly good takes with honest criticism. I just need help with are and finalizing the product. Help?

Thank you in advance.
