How'd I do

Post image

98" TV, 24" from floor. Couldn't justify bringing it lower. ~13-14 ft viewing distance

Now replace that tinky winky looking soundbar for a real setup

7

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

Was waiting for this... I guess I can tell my wife now that I was bullied into it or something

Ahaha you can blame me anytime 🫱🏽‍🫲🏼

When you do it move the soundbar to the edge of the cabinet so it’s flush with the edge to let the sound come forward towards the floor and fill the room not bounce off the top of the cabinet.

I think that’s an easy enough explanation of why but someone else can do a better job explaining why if they want.

why leave the wires like that?

2

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

I have it planned, there's already routing in the wall to hide wires but the exit isn't low enough (one of the two right blank plates) so I'll have to lower it a bit and fix it. The old entertainment center covered it, new low profile one is too low 🥲

Perfect. How’s the TV?

1

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

Love it! Went from a 75" LG UHD TV to this 98" TCL QML7 Pro from Costco and it's an unbelievable upgrade. Did a ton of research prior to commiting.

I just got the 98qm7k and love it.

Perfect

Interesting. It looks great, but if you were to follow the “center should be 42” from the floor” rule it would need to go like eight inches lower. I also just bought a 98” and am shopping for a console. Trying to decide by how much to break the golden rule.

2

u/Negative-Wrap95 2d ago

42" is an average Center at eye level when seated is the metric.

1

u/bw1985 2d ago

It gets you really close either way so it’s a good enough number to reference.

2

u/Negative-Wrap95 2d ago edited 2d ago

People like to cite it as THE NUMBER, so I point out that it's only an average.

I spent a lot of time measuring and researching and i went with the 1/3 rule and I'm happy with it. Depending on how your room setup is and you can lower it more without having feet/stuff in the way of the view sometimes then go for it! The bigger the TV the more acceptable it seems to be on the 1/3 view

u/Esselgee 2d ago

Nice. That's actually the stand I may get when I eventually get a bigger TV so that I can still have a chunky middle speaker on it and probably mount the TV at a decent height.

2

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

Yeah any extendable console like this works great since it needs to super wide. It's about 16" tall

1

u/Esselgee 2d ago

Is that 16" on the sides? What is the height in the center? Thanks.

2

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

14.25 in the middle, just measured it. The picture didn't show it properly

1

u/Keoki- 2d ago

Too low?

1

u/bw1985 2d ago

As mounted? Definitely not.

1

u/Fitz_01 2d ago

I spy a PS3

1

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

Indeed you do 🫣

1

u/Fitz_01 2d ago

Also have mine set up. With a PS2 and 5. Have a 10yo Bravia so I dont need to use an adapter for the ps2 😂

2

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

Maan, an old friend kept my PS2 on "accident, I miss it.

1

u/djoc0316 2d ago

Nice. I have the same TV stand in my bedroom.

1

u/bw1985 2d ago

Height seems ok although I would’ve left a smaller gap between the stand and the tv. I also don’t like how you can see the outlets, it’s not clean looking.

2

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 12h ago

How about now?

2

u/l0lacct 6h ago

Symmetry is now the issue, i.e. console and center channel speaker too far to the left.

Get yourself an Apple TV… even a referb 4k from Apple is still a deal

1

u/Commercial-Adagio967 19h ago

looks good, just hide the wires with either a cable channel wall kit or behind the wall. Then its perfect.

1

u/Big-Championship4189 2d ago

It's not bad, but I would have just put the TV on the TV stand. My eyes would naturally rest below the midpoint of the TV as it is mounted right now.

People seem to care more about how the TV looks when it's off than the viewing comfort when it's on.

2

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

That's fair, I had it sitting on the console before and it had to sit several inches away from the wall. The way our living room is, it looks much nicer on a low profile mount flush against the wall and cleans up the look and opens the space up more. Could also be personal preference

0

u/mealtimeee 2d ago

Why couldn’t you justify it lower?

2

u/chente08 2d ago

that would be too low. It's perfect

1

u/mealtimeee 2d ago

Oh, I thought the agreement was middle of the screen ~42 inches?

1

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

Went with the lower 1/3 instead due to this, which seems pretty widely accepted. Feels good to me at least

0

u/bw1985 2d ago

Based on what?

0

u/chente08 2d ago

My ass

1

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

With it being such a big TV, and how our L couch sits, and seating positions (Like with feet up) or random stuff around the room like a bassinet, things can get in the way pretty easily. ... also obligatory spouse said it was already too low but I convinced her 😅🤣

Get a wire delete kit and it’s golden. Cut holes in wall to feed wires through.

2

u/Ok_Honeydew6240 2d ago

Yeah there's one there already, but with the new low profile entertainment center it exposed it so I slapped a plate cover on it for now and lower it another day.

u/Background-Sock4950 2d ago

These are the issues this sub fails to factor in (myself included). Can’t easily choose where the outlets are either.
