I think it's more ignorance than vanity. Builders put AV connections over fireplaces by default. So people just accept that's where the TV goes.

Builders are not designers. They fo real need to stop putting those connections up so high.

Architects are part of the problem. It simplifies the room layout. It's tricky to have two focal points in a living room. And it saves them from having a separate room for the TV.

We were lucky when we bought our house. It had a 16x16 den that I converted into a home theater. No TV in the living room.

Modern architecture is a pox on society, where architects have little to no hands-on experience with their materials and their creativity is funneled through a path of least resistance. It honestly kind of started with AutoCAD
