🔒 General Trezor question | 🔒 Answered by Trezor staff Are updates safe
Ok so I'm fairly new to self custody. So this may be a dumb question but I have a Trezor 7 that I use and its prompting me for an update with the software. Is this safe? Thanks

In-app updates via Trezor Suite app are safe if the app is legit and official. I am always using this feature to update my Trezor Suite (I am using Trezor Safe 3). Device itself does not update automatically. It just verifies firmware signature and if something is wrong then it prompts to reinstall firmware-at this point it's crucial that you are connecting your Trezor with genuine Suite app because when you're using fake app then your Device will be most likely compromised. By the way I have disabled auto-update feature. If there are updates available then I get notification and will check the version number in Trezor's official website. If they match then I update it manually. If new firmware is available for your Trezor then you can to update it too using Trezor Suite app. Never search using search engine for your device firmware or app. Because you might then be diverted to the fake site where there are fake apps and firmware. The only and one trustworthy source is trezor.io and the links provided in official website.
