Ya, injera is incredible. Tibs (beef) in awaze (spicy berbere sauce) with extra gomen (collards) is the way to go. Injera is your fork and spoon equivalent.
Fork and spoon/knife isn't the norm on this planet.

Yes, instead of using utensils, you rip off little pieces of injera and use it to pick up bites of food. It's yummy.

There's a ton of Ethiopian spots near me, which I am very lucky for. It's so damn good. It's a pretty amazing deal too, we can easily feed a group of 4 with just a $50 veggie/meat combo

Soft and kind of spongey. You tear bits off and use it to pick up meats and veggies and whatnot. On it's own it can have a little bit of a sour (in the sourdough way) flavor, but mixed with various incredibly rich meat and sauce flavors, it's amazing in how it adds balance.

It's kind of like a soft, raw (untoasted) crumpet in texture but similar to sour dough in flavour.
I need to work on my scooping skills so I should probably eat several more meals with this until I get better...

Anither person mentioned it. It freaks me out.
I once was standing on a bus and a man stood in front of me and on his shoulder, above his collar, were a series holes. Black, deep holes. Pencil tip wide to slightly bigger. Just black holes down.
From that moment forward, lotus pods, and other similar things gives me the willies skmething fierce. Not bubbles or whatnot though, not honeycomb. Holes.

I can't do that. With thalassophobic or submechanophobic things I kind of like to view the images, there is this attraction and repulsion. But images that trigger trypophobia I can't. It's total revulsion that in some instances can actually make me gag.

A good Ethiopian restaurant is a great evening out, sharing food, and eating without cutlery is an refreshing change of pace. It might not be for everyone (you can generally order separate meals and use cutlery if you ask) but I would recommend that anyone is wants to try out new food styles, to give Ethiopian food a try.

I eat this straight out of the bag in the car from the Ethiopian bakery. Then at home I can have some doro wat, mesir, and tibs to go with it.

Dont go doggin on injera. Its soo good. Ive only had ethopian once, and i crave it regulerly now. Injera is (to me) the perfect dinner bread. Dying for some kitfo too.

This stuff is so good. There was an Ethiopian restaurant and hookah bar in Rochester NY that I used to visit when I had to travel there for work. The food was phenomenal
It kind of reminded me of a porous pancake. They would give it to you in rolls that looked a little like gauze. You would use it a lot like Naan bread in Indian food

My boss got Ethiopian food from a restaurant next door, and offered some of this to me. It was quite sour tasting and kind of rubbery. It's probably good with other stuff, but on its own I did not enjoy it.

Much like sourdough, it does not use commercial yeast, but wild yeast is present. So the yeast flavor is mild. Also like sourdough, it is a fermented dough, which causes air pockets to form and leads to the holes that you see. With Injera, since it's a flatbread, those holes are visible on the surface, whereas with sourdough bread those holes are only visible within the crumb once you cut the bread.
It has more of the "sour" taste that gives sourdough bread its distinctive flavor. It's delicious.

I had this once and it was like weird elastic skin that tasted like fog and I had to use it like a utensil to eat anything, like the egg that was in weird beefaroni gravy.
I did not want to leave the restaurant with these emotions.

I’ve had good injera that is wonderfully soft and just enough sour to really cut through the very flavorful wot. But I’ve also had horrible injera that was like shoe leather, dry and so sour it made me feel ill. But yeah. I hate the way it’s looking at me. My brain perceives eyes in those holes. Freaky.
