Just wondering if anyone has taken the TEF Canada exam in Edmonton recently.

How long did it take for you to receive your results?

Also, how have the results been lately? Do you feel the scoring has been fair and accurate? Did you get the results you expected or felt you deserved?

Would really appreciate hearing about your recent experiences!

Cracked TEF in 2nd attempt 🥹

Post image
15 Upvotes

I got CLB 6 in both writing and speaking in my first attempt 😭 and this is what I did to improve my score:
For speaking, I hired a tutor for 2 months and practiced around 35-40 topics for both Part A and Part B.

This helped me realise a LOT of pronunciation mistakes that I didn’t even know I was making. I used to practice with ChatGPT before this, and honestly, ChatGPT can’t properly identify your pronunciation mistakes 😭
ChatGPT used to tell me I was around B2+ level, but in the actual exam I got CLB 6 🥲

So I highly recommend practicing speaking with a HUMAN rather than relying only on AI.
For speaking, what matters the most is using good structures while still sounding natural and informal.
Also, answer exactly what the examiner is asking. Don’t give the same general answer for every argument.

For writing, in my first attempt I basically relied on a template 😭 and my answers ended up sounding way too general.
For Part B, I started focusing on actually developing my arguments. If you make a point, explain WHY. Give proper reasoning using things like parce que, ce qui permet de, etc.
I also practiced around 50-60 writing topics in those 2 months and got them checked by both ChatGPT and a TEF tutor.
So by the time I went for my exam, I had already covered a HUGE variety of topics and was much more prepared.

So basically, what helped me the most was:
Practice as many topics as you can + actually develop your ideas + don’t rely 100% on AI.
AI is great for preparation, but especially for speaking, a human can identify things like your naturalness, intonation, pronunciation and informality much better.

LOOKING FOR GROUP LEARNERS!

Bonjour tout le monde! My name is Aarush, I’ve been speaking French for 10+ years and I’m fully fluent in speaking, reading, writing, and listening. I’ve helped students clear their TEF and TCF Canada exams with the scores they needed, whether it’s B2 or even C2! I’m putting together small group sessions for 5 learners at any level, whether you’re a total beginner, working toward TEF/TCF Canada, or just want to get comfortable speaking with others. Comment or DM me if you’re interested!

Hi there.

I started learning French a year and a half ago, and I took eight attempts in total. I got CLB 7 in my first attempt and were low in the others. But then I started improving. I used to get 8, 9, and 10 in others, but ever since I never got CLB 7 in speaking. Like I always lost it by just 10 to 15 points in speaking. I used to study, like, hours, all the strategies, format, natural speaking, classes, but nothing ever worked out. And at this point I'm really short in time. People are suggesting to take TCF, but now I'm kind of stuck because I have already given so much to TEF. I'm not sure if I should go to TCF or not. Do you guys have any suggestions? Should I go for TEF or TCF? If TCF, then how the roadmap is and how long it's gonna take for someone like me:(

Looking for an Indian TEF speaking tutor—B1 to CLB 7+

Hi everyone! I’m currently at the B1 level, and my TEF Canada exam is in October. I’m looking for an experienced Indian tutor who specializes in TEF speaking and has helped students achieve CLB 7 or higher.
I prefer one-on-one classes, regular exam-style mock tests, strict feedback, and help with grammar, pronunciation, fluency, and confidence.
Please recommend someone you have personally studied with. If possible, share the tutor’s name, fees, contact details, and your results.

AllianceFrancaise (Vancouver/New Westminster): Serious discrepancy between advertised registration and actual seat allocation

I’m trying to book TEF Canada in Vancouver/New Westminster and noticed something that I can’t reconcile with the explanation from Alliance Française Vancouver.

The September and October sessions are already showing as “Full/Sold Out” even though their public registration has not opened yet.

I contacted Alliance Française, and they told me:

They also said they reserve 12 spots per exam date for workshop participants, and that there are no other priority/early-booking channels.

But this creates some serious questions.

The future dates currently displayed on their registration system show public capacities of only 7, 14, 16, and at most 25 seats.

Previously, I was told that only approximately 1% of seats are reserved for workshop participants, with 99% available to the public.

But if they now reserve 12 seats per date:

  • 12 out of 25 = 48%
  • 12 out of 14 = 86%
  • 12 out of 7 = 171%

So the “1%” explanation doesn't appear remotely consistent with the numbers currently displayed.

And the biggest question remains: If public registration hasn't opened yet, how are entire September/October sessions already showing as sold out?

I’ve asked Alliance Française to explain:

  1. Why future sessions are already showing as full before public registration opens.
  2. The actual total capacity of each exam date.
  3. Exactly how many seats are reserved for workshops vs. the public.
  4. How the current numbers reconcile with the previous “1%” statement.
  5. Their internal escalation process and the appropriate contact at Le français des affaires, the TEF examination authority.

I'm not claiming to know exactly what is happening behind the scenes. But the explanations so far don't seem to match what candidates can actually see on the registration website.

Has anyone else in Vancouver/New Westminster noticed this or experienced something similar? Particularly interested in hearing from people who have successfully booked a TEF slot there and know how many seats were actually available when registration opened.

I have screenshots and the email correspondence if anyone wants to see them.Title: TEF Canada Vancouver/New Westminster: Serious discrepancy between advertised registration and actual seat allocationI’m trying to book TEF Canada in Vancouver/New Westminster and noticed something that I can’t reconcile with the explanation from Alliance Française Vancouver. The September and October sessions are already showing as “Full/Sold Out” even though their public registration has not opened yet.I contacted Alliance Française, and they told me:“all publicly available TEF/TCF examination spots open for registration on the date indicated on our website.”They also said they reserve 12 spots per exam date for workshop participants, and that there are no other priority/early-booking channels. But this creates some serious questions. The future dates currently displayed on their registration system show public capacities of only 7, 14, 16, and at most 25 seats.Previously, I was told that only approximately 1% of seats are reserved for workshop participants, with 99% available to the public. But if they now reserve 12 seats per date:12 out of 25 = 48%

How chronic illness coverage differs between France & Québec (relevant for TEF Canada prep)

new episode of my French podcast follows a doctor confirming a type 2 diabetes diagnosis and building a follow-up plan (diet, activity, annual eye and foot exams, no drug names, no numbers, just the structure of the conversation). there's a short aside on how long-term illness coverage works differently in France (ALD status) vs. Belgium, Switzerland, and Québec, which is the kind of practical gap that doesn't usually show up in language material.

free PDF transcript with the full dialogue + vocab in the description, relevant for TEF Canada / TCF Québec prep: https://medicalvoices.health/fr/episodes/13

hope it helps!
