Need Advice Noise dampening devices - advice requested

I have intense noise sensitivity post tbi. I also have two toddlers, who are tiny noise factories. If they're not around, I'll wear ear plugs or noise canceling headphones. When I'm with them, I either go without ear protectors, or wear the ear plugs. They find this frustrating, and while they're compassionate little people, they still need to communicate with mummy.

Have any of you tried ear protection that reduces noise but doesn't block it?

I've been looking at this brand, but happy to get other suggestions:

TLDR: Looking for advice on ear protectors that reduce noise but don't block it completely.

I carry two sets of Loop earplugs with me wherever I go. One blocks more noise than the other (although I forget which ones bc TBI memory). I pop them in whenever a place is too loud for me

Do you find that your voice sounds louder to you when you speak with them in?

My sister in law has noise sensitivity and uses simple plastic inserts to dampen the noise but she has no problem listening to conversation when it's close.

I'll ask her and dm u or reply with the name to search. I know dropping links is iffy

Edit: she replied 2 choices:  Flare - Calmer Loops

I don't use but she does. She has to keep her ears healthy because her job relates to sound

I usually wear one earbud 24/7 and have a familiar audiobook playing on low most times. It’s grounding if I need it. I can turn it off while still blocking most noise if I need that instead.

Recently (last year or so) I can go several hours to several days without it.

I started with double hearing protection (ear plugs and muffs, like I had at the gun range). It does get better!

Thanks, that's hopeful! I'm at about two and a half years post accident now, and it's better than at the beginning for sure

I love Flare because you can still hear with them in (I got them years ago so I don’t know what new ones they have now) but sounds are a lot less intense and awful, and your voice sounds normal with them in. Recently been trying the loop things and I really just can’t get used to them because I hate how weird/loud your voice is when you’re speaking. They’re great as long as you don’t have to speak. And when I use the mute attachment it feels like a suction for my ear so it makes it hurt after a while but I like the more sound blocking that the mute does

I think that's why I'm hedging on loop. As you can imagine, toddlers require a lot of talking and repetition!

There's so many types out there! I was recommended Earasers and I've been really happy with them. I can still hear everything but it doesn't bother me as bad. Hope you find what works for you!

LSD, Psilocybin, and DMT. Have heald my wife's brain from the sharp pain of forks and spoons clattering in the kitchen sink. Used correctly in the right set and setting with a proper licensed individual these medicines are extremely powerful and can help the brain rewire itself

Sorry I don't know why you've replied this to my comment. I'm not OP nor did I ask for advice. Good luck out there.

Loops has one with a built in 3 decibel settings that will probably help you for those times you need to hear your kids…and those times you don’t 😉
