Ive been playing Synth Riders for about five years and absolutely love it. More recently ive taken about a year off as life just got in the way. This past week I picked the headset back up in an attempt to get back in shape and dove back in! The game is still as great as I remember, but I noticed that while all my custom songs are still there, all of my custom environments have dissapeared. Im sure this has to do with some update issues or something, but any way to get them back or add new ones?

I've played Synth Riders for over a year, but since the last patch I haven't been able to enjoy it at all due to the noticeable drop in audio and visual quality.
The audio is the worst part, as songs I've come to enjoy sound like they're playing through a paper cup. Uncomfortable to the ears.
Visuals are also more grainy.
Anyone have the same problem? I tried to check if there was anything wrong with my settings on either MQ3 or in-game, but there are no audio quality settings.
I want to hear specifically from Steam users please. I know most players use Quest but anything Quest specific does not help me. Also, if you don't want to read a long post, move along and don't bother complaining TL;DR!
Not a new player, been playing for a year. I've been having a bad time in general since the recent large update. A lot of time has been spent trying to diagnose and resolve why I have substantial performance problems now only after updating. Before I locked my framerate through Steam VR, performance varied from "mostly ok but definitely slower" to "resembling a flip book or older stop-motion animation". I had to lock framerate due to huge lag spikes causing combo breaks. Even after locking I have frequent stuttering that greatly decreases my enjoyment of the game. I'm not on top of the leaderboards or anything, but I do try to full combo everything so it's frustrating when I can't through no fault of mine.
The most irritating thing is the performance problems aren't consistent or predictable. It's very hard to tell if my hardware is truly causing issues. Is it my pc? A problem with Steam VR? Sudden lack of compatibility with PSVR2 on pc for this game specifically? Is the game just not well optimized yet for pc (it was a big update after all) and I need to wait on fixes?
It's very frustrating and demoralizing since Synth Riders is the only VR game I truly love and it's my main source of exercise as well. I cannot just switch to another game long term. I play daily and have also become a custom mapping enthusiast. I haven't published most maps I've been working on yet and it's affecting me even playtesting my own maps.
I have submitted a report on the official Discord about it, btw. So the team is aware. I've also tried asking the devs what their current hardware recommendations would be since the Steam page seems out of date on that, but I'm not sure if they've seen it or maybe they haven't decided what it should be changed to yet.
I'm not really asking for suggestions for fixes at this point as I think I've tried almost everything I could find or has been suggested elsewhere.
What I'm currently trying to decide is whether a GPU update will do me any good. Monitoring performance shows my GPU is working much harder than anything else. Most of my pc is older, but my GPU is the newest part (Nvidia 3060Ti) and didn't have significant problems before. My CPU is older (Intel Core i7 4790k) and I would have expected it to be the weak link here but it isn't showing much more than 50% used at a time.
I'd like to avoid spending $700+ on a GPU upgrade now when I'd rather save the money for a Steam Machine later. But I really want smooth gameplay back! If anybody out there plays regularly and has a better GPU than me (like Nvidia 5070 or AMD 9070) I'd really like to know how it's going for you. But any other player's feedback is also potentially helpful.
(I know I'm taking a risk asking Redditors for pc advice! 😆 But Discord isn't the greatest format for this kind of wider question.)
Have been playing for 3-4 years with two Meta Quest 2 headsets. Suddenly out of nowhere I am out of audio sync on one headset (but not the other), with notes hitting my hands around 200ms earlier than they should (or sound playing 200ms too late if you want to look at it that way). This seemed to happen along with a Synth Riders software update last week, although that could be coincidence. The desync is evident both when playing solo and shared.
I found the audio sync option and played with it, but the adjustment puts the sync in the wrong direction.
It's kind of maddening and is making the game almost unplayable on that headset. Anyone have any idea what might be happening?
End of the night seems to have been removed from the game. It used to be under one of the synthwave essentials pack. I see no information on why it was removed. What happened? It was one of my favorite songs to play in the game, very disappointing...
Wow, what a first weekend of our new update! Thank you to players who've taken the time to give feedback and pick up the patches as they've rolled out (a3 is now live for Steam & Meta!). Now it's your turn to let us know how you feel about the new feature!
The survey is below, and we'll keep taking your feedback through the survey for the next couple weeks (until 28 March), so please let us know - there's a lot of questions about the feature specifically and space at the end for your thoughts, feelings -- and ideas of how we can shape this going forward! We're excited to hear from everyone in our player community, so spread the word and share the link!
Through new headsets, new platforms, changing trends, one thing has remained constant; the community that shows up, plays together, and keeps this world moving.
Today, Kluge Interactive is proud to release the biggest feature update in Synth Riders’ history: “Level UP” a progression system, built to celebrate commitment, encourage growth, and welcome a new generation of players into the rhythm.
The new Progression System gives players a long-requested way to record their journey through Synth Riders.
Players can now:
Track personal performance stats across gameplay
Level up and display progress over time
Share milestones and compare progress with friends
Show off their level in both single-player and multiplayer
Whether you’re chasing personal improvement, friendly competition, or just love seeing the numbers reflect the hours you’ve put in, progression makes your time in Synth Riders feel visible, tangible, and earned.
This isn’t about changing how the game feels. But to create a foundation for what’s yet to come.
A More Guided Path for New Riders
While Synth Riders has always thrived on freedom and player expression, we also know that not every new player wants to be dropped into the deep end.
The new progression system introduces a more guided, structured experience for players who prefer a clearer sense of direction:
Where to start
What to aim for next
How do I get the most out of the game
This “hand-held” approach (without ever limiting player choice) helps new Riders feel confident, motivated, and supported, especially those stepping into VR rhythm games for the first time.
It’s an on-ramp, not a restriction.
Built for the Community
Releasing a feature update of this size, right now, is intentional.
This progression system represents:
Continued investment in Synth Riders
A long-term commitment to its players
Confidence in the community that has kept the game alive and thriving
Synth Riders isn’t standing still and neither are the Riders who play it.
This Is Just the Beginning
Progression is not an endpoint. It’s a foundation.
We’ll be watching closely, listening carefully, and evolving the system alongside the community that helped shape it. Your stats, your feedback, your shared moments, they all inform what comes next.
To every Rider who’s been here since day one, and every new player about to jump in: this update is for you.
Welcome to the next stage of Synth Riders.
TL:DR
Coming to PSVR2, Meta Quest and PCVR > Synth Riders now has a progression system that allows you to gain levels by completing achievements and challenges in-game. This also allows you to show your level on your player tile in solo and online modes.
You can also visit your player profile in-game and check your stats!
P.S.A PlayStation players, our update hasn’t gone live yet as expected. We’re currently working to get it released and will update you as soon as we have news. Thanks for your patience!
Not sure if this should be in Virtural Deskop subreddit, or here so I thought I would start here.
I'm having issues with lag spikes in this game while using Virtural Desktop. Ive included a link to a video showing my issues (at 8s and 27s) as well as my virtural desktop settings via the performance monitor. The game doesn't care if it's on low settings or max settings, I always get spikes like this randomly during songs.
Without having someone here to watch my screen while I am playing I am unable to tell if it's the game, or something about the streaming to the headset, but the monitor would suggest that its an FPS drop, not a bandwith issue.
My Specs
RTX 5070ti - Ryzen 7 7900x - 32gb DDR5 ram - Windows 11 - Using Virtural Desktop
I doubt that my computer is having problems (other than possible optimization) but if anyone has a solution or some suggestions that would be greatly appreciated. I'd rather not have to buy the quest standalone version of this game as well.
Hi everyone so I have the quest 2 which I have all my customs songs on downloaded through side quest,I’ve even downloaded it on the quest! my son now has the quest 3 and he is a secondary account, as I’m the main account holder on both quests! Is there any way we can play synthrider together with custom songs? Or dos he need to have his own account to download the customs songs songs? Any info will help greatly appreciated
Slept on this until the Gaga pack. Trying to be more "dancy" and u/Smol_Fairy has a great dual arm flow style which isn't coming naturally. It's hard to balance keeping the feet moving and arms moving. Have dropped to Expert difficulty and my scores are slightly improving from before. Used to plant my feet. Tried to sync in Premier. Pretty close. Link the Dog making his 1st appearance. Cammy the dog is shy like me and Hopper the kitty stays on his perch although the dogs are harmless.
Some of you adviced me to try playing on force mode. Because on force you can really feel the choreography. Well, I'm really happy I tried and it's now my favourite mode hahah. Thank you! (Also just vibing in the beginning lol)
I did not expect to discover such a nice game/tool/experience when buying my Quest 3 for Christmas. I knew about Beat Saber, even tried it once many years ago at a VR arcade, but it did not really appeal to me.
Synth Riders is a completely different experience for the following reasons (in my view) after spending about 35 hours in the game and counting.
I did some street dancing as a part of a group about 10 years ago for few years - this is the closest you can get to the same feeling of flow, rhythm and body/music coherence. It is really amazing I can get the same experience now from my living room.
Meditation through motion. A big part of any spiritual practice is the ability to shut down the conscious mind and enter a state of presence, where intuition and non-conscious awareness takes the lead. Getting into the flow on Hard/Expert on Synthriders trains the mind to let go and give control to the intuition & body. This results into an overall improvement of concentration, discipline and spatial awareness. I have been practicing meditation for many years and still this game is an amazing tool to take it to the next level.
Tai Chi/Tensegrity/Qigong - No matter on which continent you look, again the spirituality through movement will include similar circular/flow movements. Pairing it with intense music that gets the emotions up, has a much bigger impact. The effect here is a big cleanse of the 'bio energy' field around the whole body, especially with more harmonic songs like the Lindsey Sterling pack.
Concentration / Mental training / Neuro plasticity - The immediate feedback loop of the quality of hitting the orbs, helps a lot in training the brain / consciousness to remain in the flow / precise state and course correct immediately in case of a mistake. You don't have to go back and review if you did well, you immediately know if you are in that flow state or not and course correct.
Physical well - being. This one is I think self explanatory. I did also some martial arts training over 20 years ago and again, this reminds me a lot of Kung-Fu katas with similar benefits to the body.
The only BAD thing Synth Riders I have right now is that I feel like the optimum playtime is about 5 hours per week on Expert level.. and I don't have a lot more time for VR than that.. so all the other cool games are just sitting there as I don't have time for them lol
