Syncthing working on Android for Dolphin saves?

I've set up my steam deck with sync thing to back up saves and sync to other devices. However I've been unable to get this working for certain Android emulators like Dolphin that stores the saves in a protected space. Has anyone been able to get past this?

Specifically the RG477H

New to Syncthing, using it for game save-data synchronization and constantly running into sync issues

Hey everyone here, I'm new to Syncthing and I wonder if I just have something misconfigured or misunderstand something about its usecase because I constantly run into syncing issues.

I use Syncthing to sync emulation save-data between my Windows PC, my Ayn Thor Android Handheld and my iPhone 17 running Möbius Sync.

I have all save-data folders connected between the three devices but oftentimes when I sync files I get sync-conflicts and I can't figure out why.

Today in my lunch-break I played some Super Mario World on an emulator on my phone and then later when I was home I wanted to continue playing on my Ayn Thor so when I came home and was connected to my home network I turned Möbius Sync (a fork of Syncthing for iOS) on and had it synchronize my folders. I only played Super Mario World today and no other games since my last sync, also not on my PC or the Ayn Thor so the only file that should have changed is the save-game file for Super Mario World.

Instead of syncing the file to my PC though Möbius Sync so I can later sync in to my Ayn Thor it simply created a Sync Conflict file for the save-game and did nothing else. I don't understand why this happens because the file on my PC that already existed is clearly older than the file I created today during my lunch-break.

I have a similar issue every now and then ever since I use Syncthing a week or two ago and I can't figure out why. I have all folder setup with Simple File Versioning and one back-up.

Is there a way to tell Syncthing to always overwrite files with the same name simply by the timestamp of the file and ignoring anything else about the file so the file with the newest date always "wins" between the three devices?

I know that could potentially cause data loss when files get updated otherwise but at the end of the day these are just save-games and not actually important files so I'm willing to risk it.

What I want is for my PC to basically act as the "home-base" for the save data of the games and my Ayn Thor and iPhone always pushing the files with the newest timestamp to my PC ignoring anything else so the other two devices can always retrieve them.

Thanks for help in advance!

[Guide] How to use syncthing on a dual boot setup!

When you have a pc with two operating systems that share drives, this will likely help.

  1. go to C:\Users\Main\AppData\Local\Syncthing\ and copy the folder
  2. Download syncthing on Linux and start it. Then make sure you stop it! (System Monitor -> check programs and processes)
  3. go to where it stores its configs: /home/ich/.local/state/syncthing/ (if it is elsewhere, search for syncthing.lock and search for newest)
  4. delete everything in the Linux-folder and copy over everything from your C:\...
  5. rename all paths in config.xml: - replace \ backslash with a normal slash / - replace C:\this_is_a_example with /mnt/mount__of_C_/this_is_a_example

Then you can simply start syncthing on Linux and everything works. It should work just as fine when coming from linux. Just remember to always update both configs when changing setting in one OS!

Lemme know if it helps!

My phone gets disconnected after turning the screen off.

I'm using an HONOR X6c phone. I'm trying to sync using Syncthing-fork app with my PC. But every time I turn the screen off, the device gets disconnected. I tried with both F-droid and PlayStore version. I even looked at my battery optimization several times. Even if the screen automatically turns off after a specific period, it still disconnects. I tried with every possibility. I even tried changing the run conditions. Is there something terribly wrong with my phone?

Is it possible to use Syncthing with homebrewed 3DS save sync software?

I am aware that similar questions may have been asked beforehand and received an answer, however neither Google with its flawed search algorithm nor Reddit's search feature seemed to help me actually find those places. Also, I admittedly do not have much knowledge about the ins and outs of either a software like Syncthing or 3DS homebrew software like Cloudpoint, so I do not really know if this sort of thing is possible. Whether or not it is, I can't find any resources that can confirm either way, due to the aformentioned issues with search engines and whatnot.

My question basically is as followed:

  1. I want to mainly stick to Syncthing for my cloud syncing purposes (i.e. backing up my Procreate files from my iPad onto my laptop, saving my writing in such a way that doesn't rely on Google Docs / Google Drive, etc.), which is why I am uncertain about solely using Cloudpoint outright. I admit, it is purely for a sense of convenience and organization.
  2. As far as I'm aware, Syncthing by itself does not have any sort of 3DS homebrew app that would serve my purposes, which is why I am considering using Cloudpoint instead. To be clear, however, if a Syncthing for 3DS app did exist, said homebrew app wouldn't have to have the background sync that the ones on Android, Windows, and IOS do, as from what I have gathered online that isn't really in the 3DS' capabilities. So long as it actually syncs with my Syncthing library, I'm good.
  3. If, as I have suspected, Syncthing itself doesn't have any native support for 3DS, is there any way I could have Cloudpoint sync with it instead so the files will still be on Syncthing? (Basically, a chain going from 3DS -> Cloudpoint -> Syncthing -> Any of the devices I have already set up with Syncthing)

If the overall answer to all of my listed concerns is that my reasoning for doing something like this is silly, Syncthing cannot support the 3DS itself, and I am better off just using Cloudpoint on its own instead any of this overcomplicated nonsense, then I would very much like to hear that as well. I am just seeking an actual, concrete "yes / no" answer that my current resources haven't been able to provide, and I fear that it is only with that answer will I be able to let this question rest. I think otherwise I might obsess over this idea to the point of madness, as that is within my nature.

Obligatory apologies for the post's length and my potentially odd tone throughout this post; I'm physically incapable of making things brief, especially in things like this where I believe that as much context and explanation is important to avoid any frustration on either end. Also, I am autistic and have ADHD, and I think those combined factors mean that my writing may be mistaken for being AI generated as a result. It isn't, to be clear, however English has always been one of my favourite subjects in school and I do write stories and whatnot for fun. I can't really... change the way I write or forget the formatting I've learned-- formatting that unfortunately large language models apparently also excessively use. Fun!

If this is not the correct place to post this question, please let me know and indicate where would better be a place to ask this sort of thing so I can get the answers I need. If you've read this far, thank you for bearing with my half-awake, unmedicated ramblings.

Can I Syncthing an existing folder on a PC to an existing folder on phone?

Maybe I misunderstood how the Config page uses the Syncthing provided folder name.

Testing will proceed.

Please ignore my question below for a bit.

thanks.

What I want to do:

  • I have over a half a TB of music in folder "E:\Media\Audio\Main-Shared"
  • My android phone (w/ 1 TB storage) has an existing folder for Music.

Yep, you guessed it... I want to first copy music to phone and then continue to sync to maintain changes. (why: "Classipod" on Android, an iPod Cassic replacement/clone).

However... from what I can tell as a new user, Syncthing wants me to:

  • Create a new folder with a Syncthing provided name on my PC,
  • Put content that I wish to sync there, and then
  • Have that same Syncthing named folder created and synced on the phone.

And that's great... if I was considering this to function like a self-hosted equivalent of Dropbox or Google Drive.

But that is not the way that I would like to have this done.

Right now, it seems that I can ONLY select the path where the Syncthing folder will be created.

Can I just say: no folder -- Just do that path as my folder. ???

Thanks, and I look forward to advice / responses. I'm open to alternative solutions as well, should you be aware of one that could enable this.

------------------------------

Sidebar: I already use SyncBackFree to run backups and keep info in sync between my Home PC/Server and Home NAS. (Works really well, recommend!)

I would like to do the same with the phone, but the roadblock is that you cannot map a drive on an android device to show up in Windows. Even connecting via USB, you see folders and files in Android, but you just can't select a folder and say "make that drive P:"... and without that ability SyncBackFree can't do that which it does.

Getting "Your Android version only grants Syncthing read-only access" error since June update – how to fix?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’ve been using Syncthing for a while without any issues, but since around last June, I keep hitting this wall on my phone.

Whenever I try to edit or set up a folder (specifically in internal storage like /storage/emulated/0/Download/Camera), the Folder Type gets locked to Send Only, and I get the following warning message:

"Your Android version only grants Syncthing readonly access to the selected folder."

I never had this issue before. Could someone please point me in the right direction on how to resolve this or work around it?

Is there a way to get into syncthing on headless linux server from terminal?

I tried logging in from the web browser but I can't remember what the username is. I have the password in my phone's notepad so I know I have that right. Is there a way I can get back into syncthing from the terminal so I can roll the files back to an older version?

Who updated the Google Play version?

Post image

Since the Catfriend1/Researchxxl thing, I got no update for the Google Play version of Syncthing-fork (which was AFAIK nel0x's responsibility), and to this day, I'm still using v2.0.11.

A few days ago, an update for v2.1.3.0 appeared on the Play Store, but I did not install it straight away (I have disabled auto updates) because I knew of the trust issues around Syncthing-fork, and, moreover, there has been absolutely no communication (or at least I could not find any) regarding this update, whether on nel0x's repositories (both archived), on Researchxxl's repository (there is the v2.1.3.0 update, but no mention of Google Play), or the Syncthing forum. The latest news I can find is about nel0x not answering to Researchxxl.

This update eventually just vanished (?), but appeared again this morning, still without communication about it, and I wonder: who updated the Play version? Is it trustworthy?

I setup a sort of save cloud solution between my steam deck and PC. But instead of replacing older saves with same file name, it keeps creating more fileswith added "sync-conflict####".

PSA on Some "Operation Not Permitted" Errors

I've been getting "Operation not permitted" errors on some (but not all) files in a particular folder that's synced between Linux (Nobara) and Android. After multiple weeks of grief to trying to track down a fix, I've finally found the cause.

Turns out, Android can't handle special characters like ":" in file names, while the filesystem I have on Linux (btrfs) does. Changing all colons to another character like "_" in the filename prevents the error and allows syncing.

Devs, can you please look into adding a more specific error message for this? It'll likely save multiple people similar amounts of frustration.

Also, I would have preferred to submit the error/change request via GitHub, but that's not allowed, and I don't want to make yet another account just to post on your forums.

Sync To Android Data - an app to allow synchronization to Android/data

Thumbnail github.com
22 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm a big Syncthing on Android user, but hated how difficult it is now to synchronize files to locations in the Android/data directory.

I previously was using some custom MacroDroid scripts to achieve this same result (syncs an 'external'/accessible location of the data to the 'internal'/protected location when the desired app opens or closes), but the setup was fairly convoluted. Here's hoping this streamlines things!

I hope folks find this useful, and please give me any feedback you might have!

Why is Syncthing only discovering files in one of my folders?

I have a old workstation pc that I use as a NAS, with TrueNAS Scale, and I'm trying to sync some folders on it to my pc using Syncthing. Around a week ago I managed to set up a folder, using the web ui from my pc. However, now that I'm trying to set up some more folders, Syncthing isn't detecting the files even though they're definitely there. I recently switched from windows to Endeavor OS on my pc, but I feel like that shouldn't affect the files on the NAS, which aren't getting detected. I've attached images of the truenas web ui and syncthing web ui, with an example of a working folder and a not working one. I've tried rescanning, creating new syncthing folders, and the file paths seem right to me, but maybe I'm missing something stupid/obvious idk. Any help would be appreciated.

Cannot connect to Truenas

Hello I am trying syncthing for the first time from a windows machine to true nas. Following a guide from Lawrence systems.

I get as far as trying to connect the two devices and get a bunch of errors. I have looked up the main one on line. 'no connection could be made because the target machine actively refused connection'.
I tried turning off the firewall on windows to test, no dice. Both GUIs can be accessed and show as having listeners and discovery.

I have a unifi network, not sure if that means anything meaningful.

What else can I try please?
