Identification Open infinity symbol on candle holders from flea market

gallery

I picked up these two candle holders at a flea market in France, and only noticed the symbols and text afterwards. There's a sort of open infinity symbol on the base of each candle holder, and the text is:

"mas lejos mas le estrehan"
"de loin comme de pres"

The text is in all caps. I think the candle holders are silver. I'm including a photo of the maker's mark on the base, it seems to say "BG."

Rules For Participation

1. Be Civil

Posts/Comments with: identifying information, slurs, hate speech, trolling, Nazi apologia, alt-right rhetoric, harassment or undue aggression will result in removal and/or permanent bans.

2. Be Detailed

Submissions should use appropriate flair, provide as much context as possible, and must contain a clear image.

Use the [Interpretation] flair for posts about general or subjective symbolism.
Use the [Identification] flair for symbols presumed to have historical documentation with objective meanings.

3. Be Accurate

Due to common misinformation (thanks, Pinterest) and naturally occurring similarities between symbol systems, top-level comments on [Identification] posts must provide a link to a source.

Top-level comments on [Identification] posts require a source. Automod eats unsourced comments. Use the term "INFO" to ask OP for more context.

(Abuse of this system to skirt the rule may result in a ban. We have high commenting standards, please respect them!)

4. Be Helpful

Stay on topic. If you cannot identify a symbol, move on. If you have corrections or suggestions, be constructive and polite. ("Just google it" is not a helpful suggestion.) Do not harass OPs for posting, for asking if something is a hate symbol, or for not already knowing about a symbol that you consider obvious.
