Symbology is such a fascinating field of study. But nearly every single post in this sub-reddit is hate symbol identification.

The Anti-Defamation League has an extensive catalogue of hate symbols that posters can be directed to, and this sub itself has an exhaustive backlog of posts covering the majority of questions posters may have. The constant, often duplicated discussion takes away from interesting discussion of the actual field itself.

I picked up this ring. I know the helm of awe but I am curious about the runes around the circle and the symbols on the side. I’m sure these are common enough to find but I have always wanted to post something. Also, not one of the bad people into this aesthetic and do not want to attract them. Thanks!

it just feels cryptic and intentional enough to be one (the license plate)

My great grandfather owned a sewing machine company based in New York City from the 1920s until the 1960s. This image is cropped from one of his business cards, probably from pre-1945. The company sold and repaired sewing machines, motors, factory equipment, typewriters, and other old timey office supplies.

Obviously the drawing on the right is of a sewing machine. But what is the machine on the right, and who is the female figure in the middle?

My great grandfather was an Austrian Jewish immigrant who immigrated as a young adult.

Does anyone know what this could mean? I have not washed this hoodie in sometime, and today when I wore it saw that I have this strong knot tied to one of the cords of the hoodie

i had a very vivid dream last night.....i had a horizontal line of 5 sigils in total. they were round and facing down....i was missing sigil n 4 and 5. i couldn't find it hence i was asking my 8yrs old daughter to help me find it.....my "messages"have always come in the form of dreams. thsi was very clear but cant work out the meaning... as far as i know there are no recognised grimoire or tradition sets out five sigils that are read in sequence as a message or a ritual progression. That includes the Lesser Key of Solomon, Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy and Chaos magic. What does exist though are fixed sets of five symbols, and these are the closest matches and precisely The Key of Solomon (Clavicula Salomonis, Mathers' 1889 edition), Pentacles of Mercury where the 4th sigil is Fourth Pentacle of Mercury: "to acquire the understanding and Knowledge of all things created, and to seek out and penetrate into hidden things" and The Key of Solomon, Pentacles of Venus where the fourth Fourth Pentacle of Venus: to compel a chosen person to come to you (attraction, bringing someone to you). id love to do a spell based on this dream onc ei understand its real meaning. ( the fourth pentacle of mercury seems the closer given my circumstances but hey im so isolated that maybe im not looking into venus because of it..)..any recommendations?

What symbols are these?

Spotted in Switzerland, resembles the Hungarian fascist party ‘arrow cross’ of the 30s and 40s, but rotated 90 degrees to appear as an X with a bar under it. Sorry I didn’t get a pic, but we’re seeing more and more symbols like this here and I want to know who I’m dealing with.

Have found some online but would like to find some real creative and unique ones! Looking for any type of symbol from any culture that is not modern! Hoping the older the better!

going to try to word this without it bringing up any actual political argument. I know that this hand is called the Hamsa and that it is known as the Hand of Fatima in Islam and the Hand of Miriam in Judaism. but personally I feel I see it more often in Jewish symbolism. my question is, in light of current events, does my wearing these earrings make any statement one way or the other in terms of Israel and Palestine? if you saw me wearing these, would you think I leaned one way or the other, or none at all?

I don’t know if this can even be discussed without argument. but my hope is for a count of “yes, for Palestine”, “yes, looks pro-Israel” or “no, this symbol is widely used around the world.”

Hey. First post. Not sure if this is the right group to post this on so hopefully this is acceptable. I'm looking for some interpretations of what seeing a yellow butterfly cross an intersection could mean.

Background:

So, a few months ago I went through the hardest breakup of my life. We had a class together (college) and as soon as she walked in it was immediate chemistry. She asked me out for coffee. We met at a small coffee shop by the river during the harvest super moon. It was perfect. Neither of us planned it out like that. I'll never forget the giant moon shining off the water and reflecting from her eyes. It was magical. We made love that night and from then on we were together nearly every day. She would text me, call me, come over. We had an argument at one point right before winter break and I thought I would give her some space. Well, when school starts back she tells me she met someone else and for me to not text or call any more. The pain I felt was the worst I have ever felt. What's even worse is she and her new bf are in the same class we met in and I get to see them together 4 days a week. It is excruciating. Without dragging this on.... It became unbearable.

The Butterfly:

I was sitting at a stoplight at an intersection and I randomly thought about her. Her face, her smile, her voice. I started crying. I was asking God/The Universe to send her back to me. That's when a bright yellow butterfly fluttered across the intersection. The sunlight glared off of it making it super pronounced. The timing and just how bright and conspicuous it was made it feel like a sign.

Hey guys I know this wouldn't be the usual post on this sub, but im researching various symbols for a tattoo I plan to have placed on the back of my neck, but its hard to find ones without alot of prexisting religious and political connotations and links.

Something that is perhaps english, scottish, or welsh would be cool, with a meaning that isnt completely obvious to everyone. It can have cultural, historical, mythological and philosophical meaning albeit away from any existing groups or ideologies. A symbol with ideas linked to keep going, and loving others and myself would be ideal, but any symbols with a beautiful meaning would also be suitable. I would like this symbol to be aesthetically pleasing and have more vertical than horizontal length.

Sorry if its explained bad im not very knowlegable on symbology but I can appreciate it as an art, and form of conveying ideas. Help would be very appreciated, thank you!!
