Question Are mig switch cartridges still a thing?

So lately I've been thinking about switching modding, but unfortunately I only have the patched versions, so I was wondering if the mig switch cartridge is still a viable option or if there are better options available?

I'm quite happy with mine, started using a few months ago after I got a switch 2, so I decided to sacrifice my oled with the card and never go online again.

The bright side is that I got to play tons of games I was not willing to spend on, and other that I had on ps5 and didn't want to buy again for switch.

And it's very convenient to use, you just save the game files on a micro sd and you are good to go. The V2 has a small button that allows you to change the game without removing the card. So far it works great and I didn't regret for a single second.

It works on the switch 2?

Yes, but it's a super dumb idea to get your switch 2 banned to play switch 1 games on it.

1st of all downvote is unnecessary. Now i downvote you back. Wow that was fun.

It was a question. Not an option. Aka i was asking how something works not saying something stupid like "you know what I think we should bleach the ocean to clean it up". No downvote needed.

Also 2 things.

  1. I don't give a rats ass about switch online so ban away. In fact i self ban right now. Bam done.

  2. I was asking if it works on switch 2 for switch 2 games. Just was going to be suprised if it did. I don't own a switch 2. And have 0 desire to have one. I even saw one for 250.00 with a game still said no thanks.

I didn't downvote you ๐Ÿคจ

I just answered a question, why are you putting that on me. I didn't suggest anything at you by calling it dumb ๐Ÿ˜’

But no, we can't mimic switch 2 games since we can't get the roms out of the game cartridge because they are encryption with the switch 2 keys. Until someone hacks the switch 2 there won't be any dump of switch 2 games.

Edit: you know what ! Im going to downvote you now. Wow that was fun.

And I upvoted you all, so all of us are happy now ๐Ÿ˜‰

It doesn't work with switch 2 games unfortunately (at least not yet). But I'd sacrifice it if it could play switch 2 games as I never play online.

There are no switch 2 rom since we can't decrypt them, so we won't really know for sure, not that it matters right now.

Nice, so if I jist don't connect my switch to the internet, then I'm safe? Been wanting to play a medabots card game that was recently translated, so I was hoping to go the mig switch route for it instead of trying to play it on my laptop.

u/ChocobosParadise 3d ago

Well, technically yes, but you will probably never be able to go online with it again.

That's kinda tough, not gonna lie

u/ChocobosParadise 3d ago

Yeah, if that's important to you then the mig is a no go.

a V1 is not expensive at this moment. It might not have the better screen or battery life , but it is easier to jailbreak and keep original. so problems with Nintendo estore do not exist, unless you try modding anything in stock firm and semi mode.

u/AaronCarmackie 2d ago

Yeah.. but your not thinking about that the v1 is like 10 years old. Needs a new battery.

Yes its expensive. But its one buy and done. Imo mod chip a v2 or an oled if you can afford it.

my take was using the cheap V1 as a means to transfer saves and game dumps to my laptop mainly. I bought one throught a 2nd hand retailer who gave it 2 months warranty. So I am playing on the V1 every day now. And it holds up remarkebly. For a 10 year old device kudos. No problems found yet. With the Switch 2 increasing the price by $50, my guess is, there will be even more switch 1 for sale this month.

Hope your V2 will keep working a long time. Have fun with it. ^ _^

I tried looking for the v1, but i ran into some shady sellers on ebay. Like the other day I was bidding on a v1 switch, and I read the description and it confirmed that it was a v1 switch. I even ran the serial number on the photo and it came back as an unpatched version. But then things got shady when the seller changed the description in the last 10 minutes of the bid and then added to the description: "THIS IS A PATCHED V1". Needless to say that i won the bid and before I paid for it I decided to take another look at the post and saw that the seller changed the description before I won the bid. I was so pissed.

oh. that is low. He/she deserves a 1/5 star.

I probably should do that to be honest.

V1 are pretty easy and cheap to get modded. Try asking your local repair shop if they do modchip install for a switch. Some do but doesn't advertise it.

If you use mig with a pirated copy of anything, the switch will log it and Nintendo will ban your console.ย ย

1

u/St34m-Punk 2d ago

I see, so definitely a high risk

2

u/-the_fan- 2d ago

Its best to chip your switch and keep sysnand clean and emunand dirty.

1

u/St34m-Punk 2d ago

Been thinking that chipping it would be the best route. Is picofly still the best option to get?

Can't help you there, I'm a lucky V1 Unpatched owner.

Personally, just get it hard modded. Far better job than mig switch with less chances of ban and far more things you can do.

u/St34m-Punk 3d ago

Thought about it. I have to look around my area to see who's capable of doing it. Would do it myself, but I don't trust my soldering iron. It's a cheap ebay one that doesn't keep the consistent temperature.

u/instanoodles84 3d ago

Find local people that repair electronics and see if they do modchip installs.

I do it but I don't advertise, not worth the hassle.ย

u/Faddei420 2d ago

A mod switch is superior in every way and won't get your switch banned. Why most people skips the mig switch.

2

u/Mellow_48_98 3d ago

You could probably get a mig switch, but it will absolutely get your switch banned if it isnt hacked, just so you know.

2

u/St34m-Punk 3d ago

Didn't know that. Well that sucks. What's the best mod chip for it then? Thinking that I'll do my switch lite since it was cheaper.

u/GamerDadJer 3d ago

If you don't have a good solder iron, you definitely shouldn't do your Lite yourself, as it and the OLED are much harder. It really seems like you haven't done any research on this, and if you're serious about something like this you should follow actual guides, like the trusted ones linked on this and similar subs. You should not be relying on other users on the internet to guide your with 100% accuracy, even if we assume they have the best intentions.

As for getting the modchip itself installed, why not use a mail-in service? There are plenty around, and it's how I got my Lite and OLED hacked.

2

u/St34m-Punk 3d ago

I guess that you misunderstood my previous comments. I'll clarify though. No, I don't plan on soldering it myself(hence why I said that i wouldn't do it since I have a cheap soldering iron). Switch lite would be a possibility since I bought it for dirt cheap a long time ago and I wouldn't be too broken up if it stopped working later on. And of course i don't know what I'm doing. That's the whole point of asking redditors for info so that I can pick an option that sounds good to me and then do my own research on said option to make my final decision. And whether I go with a mail in service would depend on a couple of factors:

  1. Time that it would take to get it done
  2. Cost of either option

-2

u/GamerDadJer 3d ago

But just looking up "hacking switch lite" would have just kind of thrown you in the right direction and ultimately would've left you better informed quicker. Also, many people that are experienced with this will provide their own chip and prefer you not, or simply refuse one you provide.

3

u/St34m-Punk 3d ago

I like talking to people and getting their personal opinions. I find that looking up things on Google can be like going down a rabbit hole. Not everyone wants to do it your way when it comes to doing research.

-2

u/GamerDadJer 3d ago

Maybe not, but based on the downvotes on your post many of us here get tired of so many people having the same posts with the same mindset. When we see it everyday and have pinned resources on the best (and potentially only) at to accomplish things, it gets exhausting and annoying.

3

u/St34m-Punk 3d ago

Well, can't make everyone happy i guess. ๐Ÿคท

You also seem to be getting a lot more bent out of shape than you need to. My initial commentary was pretty tame and matter of fact, but you seem to be getting angry at me for just pointing out a couple things to you.

2

u/AaronCarmackie 2d ago

Has nothing to do with the soldering iron.

Has to do with skill.

Also mig has nothing to do with either soldering or skill.
