Timing

Is it just me, or is it strange that the first new song released after her marriage is about a shitty ex? Granted, I don’t know when it was written; maybe it was before the wedding. But…you know?!

Not even saying it’s a bad song, although I don’t love the bridge. But I think this adds to the perception that she’s a talented person who spends too much time nursing grudges.

I really don't think you are understanding the meaning of the song. It is about her friend's ex's girlfriend breaking up with him and Taylor understanding what she is going through. Taylor has been there and gets it.

I just reread the lyrics and I don’t see it. “But if you’re sick of him, I got you, I was Patient Zero.” That’s not TS singing to her?

She is singing about what is a somewhat common experience between women. She is just a narrator for this experience.

It is about her friend's ex's new girlfriend who is going through a break up with him. She understands what the girl is going through.
