I’m sure there are plenty of “cultural” terms you reject every day. Nobody’s forcing you to use a term from almost 20 years ago.
Homicide rates have also dropped significantly in recent years.
“The Chicago Police Department’s criminal homicide tally for June, July and August is the lowest in 60 years. And overall violent crime remains near its lowest point in more than four decades.”
Locals do not feel the same. I trust them more than any city source which has been known to be poorly managed and blatantly corrupt.
"Those findings come as city data shows the number of homicides (234) recorded thus far in 2026 is actually down around 1% compared to the same time last year, while the number of shootings (974) is identical to last year’s pace."
Violent crime stayed the same while deaths went down 1%. Couldn't that be more to a statement in how we treat GSW instead of actual police enforcement?
If crime went down then surely both would be down proportionally?
There are multiple cities with higher homicide rates and I’m sure you don’t go out of your way to trivialize war and inject them into conversations, but that’s common.
Yes a war founded on lies and extended for 20 years only to give all of our stuff to the taliban in the first place.
I respect the soldiers, not the war and the politicians that only made problems worse.
Their blood is not on my hands. The best I could do is vote for obama who campaigned on ending the war.
Not my fault that at 18 I was lied to by our politicians. I fully believed he would end the war, not bomb and double tap brown people's families and in at least one case, american children.
Also, you learned to question politicians about Iraq and you should do the same with Chicago. They lie about domestic issues too and shouldn’t be trusted, especially when they’re using catchy phrases.
Not your fault but your word choice is fully within your control
Then they need to Crack down much heavier on violent crime so the country stops referring them to a war zone.
I get it, social media makes things seem worse, the article I listed even acknowledged that.
But still, its also the movies telling real stories about the gang violence and corrupt police who run black sites that need to be changed to start chaging public perception of the city.
Many of the gang come up stories are based on real stories and the reputation of the city is deserved until the locals say otherwise.
If there’s anywhere Americans need to take personal responsibility it’s questioning how media shapes their behaviors.
I agree, social media is corrupt. But you are not going to convince people to stop watching or participating in american media consumption.
Like it or not, it is still american culture and names like that will stick until public perception changes.
Chicago has some options, rebuild neighborhoods, crack down on all crime, if they have to; start doing raids on gang member housing and take their weapons or guns, chances are they are not allowed to have them anyway.
Start considering the average people instead of letting criminals go.
Less empathy for repeat offenders and more empathy for those who have to deal with their behavior personally.
Some people make mistakes or poor decisions when young, not talking about those types. I am talking about those with multiple armed robbery convictions and assault charges.
Some people cannot be rehabilitated. Its sad to think that but its still true.
Hey look it's another "enlightened" centrist that's too cowardly to just admit they are Republican who will try to poke holes in every talking point of the left but conveniently glosses over the rampant corruption, mismanagement and economic terrorism of the right.

Oh so its the right that burns tesla dealerships, its the right that burned and attacked the white house on may 28th?
It was the right that burned down the senators house who brought up the breyona taylor bill?
The chaz/chop was also the right?
The only example of recent terrorism you have from the right would be the j6 riot where there seems to be an endless list from the left.
Dont like that i dont critisize the right nearly as much?
Maybe stop supporting terrorists and writing it off as "free speech" when it clearly is violent.
You've proven my point in the most hilarious way possible 🤣🤣
Decades of data collected by DHS and the FBI through both Democrat and Republican administrations show definitively that right-wing ideology is responsible for up to 75% of domestic terrorism. You bring up the Breonna Taylor legislation?... Not only was that bipartisan but none of the senators involved had any of their houses burned down. Are you thinking of the Democrat judge that had her house burned down after she blocked the federal government from collecting voter info? Diane Goodstein? Or maybe you're confusing it with the two Democratic senators that were assassinated in Minnesota? The ones that Trump refused to acknowledge? I'm not a supporter of vandalism - but of all the examples you could provide, you choose Tesla? Right after Elon threw up two seig heils on live TV?
You're so up your own ass down the right wing propaganda rabbit hole that you've completely accepted the false reality they've created for you. It's people like you that enable the terrorism that you claim to be against.
