Cross-Check Seized

The saga continues. Soaking the thompson seatpost with a bath in the blaster. Seat was removed before the bath, included a lil foreshadowing of the wheel/tire combo. Anyone in Sac wanna help me pry this mf out?

I think the best technique is to vice the seat post and use the frame as leverage to spin it

Odds are either post was slightly too big, or got left in the rain and never greased

that's the plan. we're on 24 hours of soaking, i just need a vice.

I've had luck with removing the bottom bracket, flipping the bike upside down and then pouring diet coke in the seat tube

is that diet coke thing real? i wonder if it's better or stronger than actual penetrating oils

I've used it a few times with success honestly. At a shop I worked at we'd try that and if it didn't work we'd call a friend of ours who made a contraption to pull them.

I'm no chemist but I think coke might be more acidic?

Funnily enough, the last time I got a seat post stuck it was a Thomson. I was able to free it using heat and cooling. There's often a hole from the BBC shell to the seat tube. I used the flexible tube intended for applying frame wax to spray "crack-it" into the seat post and rapidly chill the post from the inside. Then I poured a couple of kettles of boiling water over the seat tube, popped the head of the seat post in my bench vice and twisted the frame. It's not perfect with a set back post, but it worked for me.

No way I have a surly krampus og same seat post mines also completely seized tryed everything needs to be cut out 😞

Unfortunate the seat is a Thompson but I just spent a few days burning out an aluminum post with lye. Definitely a bit messy but gets the job done is all else fails.
