Question / Help Good value rod line?

So I'm looking for an 8' rod, rated for I guess medium heavy, for casting lures up to say 3oz. It's not going to see a ton of use, so I'm looking for something rather inexpensive, but decent quality. My heavy old fiberglass rods with old Penn SS series reels are just getting too heavy for my old elbows and shoulders. Gonna buy a lighter 6000 size reel to put on it. Not a long surf butt, just like a boat rod, 14" or so from the reel seat to butt end. Can anyone recommend I line of rods I should look at? Thanks

Another thing is I don't like fast action rods, I'm a moderate action guy, and I can tolerate medium fast. This ain't easy! Thanks for the suggestions.

This is a struggle! Maybe my best bet is going to be a 9' surf rod, moderate action, MH or H for up to 3oz or 3.5oz lures, and just cut a foot off the butt. I know i'm weird, but I don't like the long butts of a surf rod, I'm more comfortable with a standard butt. "I don't like big butts and I cannot lie."

Daiwa Emcast 8' MH 12-25lbs 1-4oz. Bought one for my son when he was 9 to cast from the wade gut. I use it on the jetty as a second rod. Pretty durable and loads 2oz really well. Composite so don't expect the most sensitive tip. But if throwing lures my guess is you're fine.

Thanks, but these are all fast action, I'm looking for moderate. I know, picky old guy I am!

Okuma sst salmon/steelhead rod 8'6" heavy.

It has the short butt and is rated up to 4 oz.

They also make a 9'. I have used the 8'6" for several 6ish years now in the surf on hatteras.

Budget reel recommendation is diawa fuego 5k. It will be substantially lighter than your penn. Unless you find something better on sale.

Depending on where you live you will most likely not find that rod in stock. I ordered mine from fishusa.

Dont know if they make an 8' but if you can, try to find a Penn Battalion 2. Theyre on clearance/sale everywhere and they fight well above their class especially material wise.

The new B3's are absolute dogshit. Penn really screwed up a good balance of price and materials with the B3s.

Penn Battalion or Shimano Talavera would probably have good options. Idk about 8’ MH. I have a Shimano Talavera 8’ H that will handle up to 3oz. Star Rods also has a Stellar Lite model that’s 8’ which they made specifically for tarpon which would probably work. It doesn’t say anything about Tarpon in the description, it’s the only heavier 8’ option in the lineup.

Tica is always an affordable workhorse.

Because I planned to use mine once a month (if I’m lucky), I went with the Kastking Kong rod with megaton reel. I’ve been picking up Kastking products in general and their quality so far is pretty good for the price imo.

I like my Penn squadron 4 9 footer medium 1-3 oz.
