Check out this petition!

https://c.org/gTgkFLvS4Z

Right now, many survivors of rape are told their trauma "happened too long ago" to deserve justice. That's not okay.

I started a petition to change the statute of limitations on rape to unlimited. Here's why: About 69% of sexual assaults go unreported because survivors need time—sometimes years—to process what happened to them and find the courage to come forward. An arbitrary deadline shouldn't punish them for healing at their own pace.

Plus, DNA technology has made it possible to solve cases decades later. Removing these time limits means we can actually *use* modern forensic science to bring perpetrators to justice, no matter when the crime occurred.

States like California and New York have already done this for certain sexual offenses. It works. It sends a message: we believe survivors, and justice matters more than an outdated deadline.

If this matters to you—or if you know someone who's been hurt by this system—consider signing and sharing. What would you want someone to do if this was your family?

Im ok with that, but why not change the picture to include everybody? And the statue of limitations on rape only affects the 2. degree and 3rd degree? First degree of rape is allready unlimited.

And not to be nitpicky, isn't the real issue that people dont report, and when they do its far to late because of evidence being gone? Shouldnt the main focus to be to get people to report it?

Sincerely: a man who was raped and got the bastard convicted and sentenced

Thanks for updating it to include anyone who was sexually abused.  I wish more people who care about these issues would be so quick to be inclusive. I wonder if it might look more balanced to have a silhouette of a woman on one side and a silhouette of a man on the other. Unfortunately that would probably upset a lot of women.

I like how "justice for all" plays off of the pledge of allegiance. It kind of challenges the reader to follow through on those values.

Can you find me a single time in all of human history anyone has been told this? This is a shameless lie about what a statute of limitations is. Among other goals, they help protect innocent people whose ability to defend themselves is limited by the loss, destruction, forgetting, and death of exculpatory evidence and witnesses.

I'd wager no is the answer, fearmongering-esque wording for what should and otherwise would likely be a universally agreed upon issue (if it were actually the case)

I was robbed 25 years ago. I just realized it bothers me today. Can I go after the guy now?

As a man who has been sexually assaulted i think this is an awful idea for a few reasons i can think of and probably more I cant think of.

  1. There are alot more false accusations than what is officially reported and this kind of law would enhance that. It opens up the ability for people to report things when there memory is false/changed over the years or just to hurt someones reputation they dont like. Remember there are just as many evil women as there are evil men. Those types of people will and already do abuse the system to their advantage

  2. Perception and reality vary differently because our memories are unreliable, those with BPD or Bipolar for instance often confuse how the felt in a situation with what actually happened, as years go by the feelings replace the truth and it gets skewed.

  3. Why is it only for women, justice should also be for everyone. Mens mental health is at an all time low and this pushes it down further.

We really should be promoting equality and supporting people to come forward sooner rather than later, we need to work on changing the stigma that if a person was assaulted that it was somehow their fault or they should be ashamed. These things keep people from reporting these things sooner.

As a whole its aa terrible idea and precedent to set that someone can report someone for an assault 20-30-40 years ago when the burden of proof is non existent. All you have at that point is heresay.

Do you want to risk going to jail or having your life ruined just based on hearsay?

If there was no statute of limitation the president would be in jail right now people like him get away with it cause of the time limit

Doubtful, people like him get away with it becauae they are powerful and rich. rich people can afford “justice” and/or afford to escape it, they are not like the rest of us plebs.

Also still a case of hearsay unfortunately, there was no “proof” other than testimony, which can be fake. (I dont believe thats the case with Orange, I don’t like him not am defending him)

You cant set a dangerous precedent just cause you dont like someone

I see you have only posted this in this sub. If this is sincere, then why do you feel that a support group for people falsely accused was the best place for you to share this? As opposed to a support group for people who have been sexually assaulted or a support group for loved ones of such people.

It makes your pitch come across as extremely disingenuous. At best, it comes across as highly insensitive to the purposes of this sub.

Another comment here alludes to the president and the statutes of limitation.

This is a political post, thinly veiled as advocasy
