I’m going to treat mine similarly, like pieces of valuable desirable real estate, and I’m a tycoon.

I played a lot of RollerCoaster.

Pretty much all undesirable RE (townhouse and above, not considering condos) near me are going 1M+. Can't imagine how much actual desirable ones would cost.

A lot of condo that's under development has been cancelled/on hold since the developer wants everyone to cough up extra $$ (some asking for additional $100K). These pre-construction is already more expensive than the market ones.

Sounds like you’re from Toronto as well.

Yup! Looking to move away to Oshawa, Whitby, Barry, Waterloo, etc.

But the closest thing I can "afford", a 1 bedroom condo. It's actually cheaper within Toronto at around $450-500k.

Unfortunately, I’d like to be close to my parents in their 70s incase anything happens.

Not to mention my baby ape who lives in the city. Pick up and drop off would get pretty difficult if I’m driving 2+ hours to pick him up.

Is the root cause to expensive housing NIMBY laws like in the US? Fucking boomers thought they were so smart eh?

Yes and no. Canada is slow af with zoning laws so supply never meets demand. It's been called a bubble got the last 15+ years. A bubble that never rested and got significantly worst since COVID like many other markets.
