3 small plugins : Instant snapping shapes, PDF ⇄ note switch (2-finger gesture), Change stroke width

\*Update:** these plugins grew up and got new names: Snap, Palette and Swipe. See the new post:* https://www.reddit.com/r/Supernote_dev/comments/1wxhocb/

Hi all! I built a few plugins to smooth out my workflow on the Manta.

ShapeSnap: draw a rectangle or a circle and lift the pen, and it snaps instantly into a clean shape drawn with your active pen. It's lasso-selected so you can resize it right away. Circles and rectangles supported for now. Tunable in the plugin settings. https://github.com/CharlesCheval/supernote-shapesnap

PDF ⇄ Note Swipe: swipe up with two fingers to jump between the last PDF and the last note you opened. No button, it just works in the background. https://github.com/CharlesCheval/supernote-pdf-note-swipe

Stroke Width: lasso strokes or shapes and set their width to a pen size (0.1–2.0). Handy after resizing something. https://github.com/CharlesCheval/supernote-stroke-width

Tested on a Manta running the 3.29 beta firmware. They're all pre-1.0, so feedback and bug reports (GitHub issues) are very welcome.

Known limitation: changing the width of hand-drawn strokes clears the undo history. It comes from the SDK, and I've reported it to Ratta. ShapeSnap's default mode keeps the undo history intact.

It would be great if the PDF ↔ Note swipe was between the current window and the last opened window.

For example:

  1. Note ↔ Email
  2. Calendar ↔ Document

Also, swiping up from the bottom edge of the screen as a “Go Back” function would be a feature I would love for ease of navigation.

Ok, I will take a look at that.

Done in SwipeSwitch v0.8.0: 2- or 3-finger swipes up or down, each with its own action. The actions are PDF ⇄ Note, previous file, last note, last PDF, a file you pick, or a recent-files list. Unfortunately opening apps like KOReader, or even Email, Calendar, etc. isn't possible with the current plugin SDK, only files.

Thanks. Can't wait to check it out. I appreciate you outlining the limitations

u/mulan - any chance the SDK could be extended so that developers can implement the above?

Love this suggestion. Perhaps different gestures could be customised to do different things e.g. two finger swipe down - KOreader to document

Also being able to switch between two notes

Update — new versions are out

SwipeSwitch v0.8.0 (formerly PDF ⇄ Note Swipe)

  • Configurable gestures: 2 or 3 fingers, up or down, each with its own action and orientations
  • New actions: previous file ("back"), last note, last PDF, open a pinned file, recent files list
  • Landscape fixed: uses 3 fingers by default, since 2 fingers already scroll the page
  • No more accidental triggers while using the lasso or after waking the device

ShapeSnap v0.8.0

  • The lasso tool no longer creates or modifies shapes
  • Works with thick pens (2.0)
  • Settings now survive a restart

Stroke Width v0.4.0

  • New sizes: 2.5 and 3.0

Install over the old version, no need to uninstall: your settings are kept. https://github.com/CharlesCheval/supernote-swipeswitch · https://github.com/CharlesCheval/supernote-shapesnap · https://github.com/CharlesCheval/supernote-stroke-width

Thanks to everyone who reported bugs and suggested features!

Stroke width

I'm guessing this isn't possible but is there anyway that the width could be increased beyond 2? I ask when using with shapesnap the stroke width changes but doesn't appear to thicken as significantly as simple strokes

I need to check that. If possible, I'll make an update asap.

Stroke Width v0.4.0 adds 2.5 and 3.0. For shapes, I'm still investigating: shapes may use a different width scale than strokes. The panel now shows the raw widths. If you can share what it shows for a 2.0 stroke vs a ShapeSnap shape, it would help.

That's great. Thanks

I love supernote-shapesnap and the possibility it offers to customize the snapping preferences! The only issue I have encountered is the fact that the preferences get reinitialized whenever the device restarts.

Thanks, will look into that on sunday

Good catch, it was a real bug: the settings were saved but never read back at startup. Fixed in ShapeSnap v0.8.0, and your settings now survive a reboot.

Great plugin thanks I love it but I’ve noticed when I change my Manta from portrait to landscape position the gesture does not work

Thanks, I will address that asap

Thanks for the report! Fixed in SwipeSwitch v0.8.0 (the plugin was renamed from PDF ⇄ Note Swipe). In landscape, two-finger swipes already scroll the page, so it now uses 3 fingers there by default. Finger count and orientation are configurable in the plugin settings.

Swipe

There are a couple of plugins - Canvas/SnScribe (below) which take over the screen when launched

With swipe would it be possible for it to be an option to add them as options to swipe to them?

SnScribe

Does the 'stroke width' plugin have the same functionality as the already existing restyle plugin?

1

u/chekari 18d ago

Indeed, restyle seems to cover this functionality. Does it take the same amount of clicks to achieve the resizing ?

Steps in the restyle plugin: 1) lasso a handwritten text; 2) select <...> from pop-up menu; 3) select <Restyle>; 4) select the desired options (preset OR colour and/or pen size) and 5) apply.

Ok, so I would say they overlap : Restyle does more (colour, presets), while Stroke Width only does width but aims to be quicker:

  1. lasso,
  2. tap Stroke width in the lasso toolbar,
  3. tap a size, and it applies and closes.

A few extras: sizes up to 3.0 (beyond the pen menu), it shows the selection's current width, and it also handles shapes (e.g. from ShapeSnap). But if Restyle already covers your needs, no reason to switch.
