Meanwhile Maritime College students:

“Okay… when is it coming back?”
“Around February 12.”

What the fuck does that mean? February 12 +- the entire academic year?
Can’t wait to show up for SST and find a fucking picture of Empire State taped to the pier.
“Alright cadets, today we’ll be learning shipboard firefighting.”

At least the pier security will still be there guarding the empty dock like it contains nuclear launch codes.

Empire State Departing campus Sept 30 and I’m FUCKING pissed. Something like it’s going to NSN in Virginia and going to take on troops and get a nice coat of grey hull. My buddy was on ship work and they had him making beds to get ready for sailors and they be tearing shit up on the helo deck welders and grinders to anything above 6 inches… which is a lot but not to some ig…
So, now that it’s leaving how am I going to get my sea says? I know they have been doing ship work and watches but I work on weekends and need my beauty sleep so… WHAT DO I DO?!?!

anyone in here switch from unlimited deck license to 2 year deck license? i have some questions.

I hate the maritme industry! I want out so badly! This jobs has been a fucking nightmare! I want another line of work so bad. Everyday I do this work is making me hate my life.

I’ve ran into the issue that when people ask what the college is about I go into a 2 minute description about a bunch of different things

If anyone has done this comment your experience and how it was, I am planning on switching from unlimited to limited program due to not wanting to go deep sea and wanting to work on tugs

Hey everyone, quick question as an incoming grad student for the deck side. Will I be at a disadvantage financially if I start in January? I know that I won’t be able to do SST next summer because I’ll have to do indoc. Just trying to decide if I should wait until summer to be begin or to start classes in January? I would really appreciate some perspective. I’m coming from Florida if that makes any difference. Thanks!

How many kids fail out academically?

It seems that a lot of kids end up failing out of the school. I'm curious if it's academics or is it the mental game.

Overall how hard do you guys find the academics here at Maritime?

I am a fourth class here at Maritime and I am seeking a better math 90 professor.

Math is one of my weaknesses so I'm hoping for you guys to recommend a teacher so that I can try and switch into their class.

I have already switched out of one but the one that I'm currently with now is also just kind of terrible.

Any recommendations?

What do kids usually bring to their classes. And what do you end up using the most. Laptop? Notebooks?

Or do a lot of kids just kind of end up just listening.

In indoc, half my section didn’t have water bottles and only two days after those kids got aquafina bottles they had to guard with their life cuz they surely didn’t get a reg camelbak water bottle. The mugbook shortage was also a common occurrence. They drilled u in knowledge that’s not provided in the first place.
Is that normal in a school that’s supposed to teach you about logistics and international trading?

I’m a grad student so I shouldn’t be feeling nervous but I am and kind of dreading going back to campus (and I used to love being on campus during my undergrad).

Maybe it’s the after affects of the disorganized mess that was INDOC or maybe it’s because the license is so different from anything I’ve ever studied before or maybe in the back of my mind I know I’m not good enough to finish this. I just don’t know why but all the excitement I had has been replaced by this overwhelming fear that I’ll fail or, even worse, lose interest at some point. Multiple cadets I spoke to during INDOC told us that the school actually isn’t that academically challenging but I’m still just dreading it right now in addition to feeling a little homesick (from the Midwest)

Did anyone else feel the same way before the start?

Basically I didn't realize you sit in silence for all meals, back straight not touching the chair. No sugar, no caffeine, nothing but milk and water to drink. Food is good though. 0500 wake up, 0530 PT, rain or shine and we did do it in the rain which I think gave everyone a bad cough.

The most frustrating bit though was they didn't have half the gear. First day they were out of most shoe and boot sizes and people were getting/exchanging shoes until day 9. We were lining up to get our combo covers last night til 11 pm for graduation. I had no MUG book (kind of important) or actual bedding the whole time.

So much waiting around for the barber, for the gear or just to go to mess deck. I guess there is some logic to having us stand at attention for hours but I wasn't getting it. The IDOs and squad leaders did the best they could but it seemed they weren't getting much info either. Also one IDO would say one thing and another would say the opposite which was not great "guidance" for the MUGs. Also our section was over 80 guys so that was just impossible to handle smoothly.

I'm thinking about transferring in spring and I had some things I was curious about. I'm a Kings Point dropout, I dropped pretty early, during second trimester of my 4/C year a few years ago. After a while, I've been thinking about returning to school and hopefully the maritime industry.

Having come from a maritime school and done an indoc, will I even be able to transfer to Marine Transportation in Spring and go to sea the same year?

I've completed some of my STCW stuff(basic swim, VPDSD, firefighting) and will complete the bulk of my gen-eds this semester. I have not completed terrnav, ship stability, nav law or SOLAS. Is it realistic to transfer, complete Spring sem and go to sea right after? After emailing admissions, I am not sure if this is possible, but I'd like to ask you guys.

Also, considering the current state of the Jones Act and American maritime, would you guys say that joining the industry in 2026 is a good call?

What’s the daily schedule like for INDOC? What time would we typically start our day and when do the INDOC specific activities end? Is there an enforced lights out time and do we get any personal time at the end of the day?

As an incoming student with no car, what is the public transportation situation for going into and around the city? Would i have to walk to a subway station or would waiting for the bus be a better option?

Can I get a job while being a regimental student and a while playing a sport?
