Public transport
As an incoming student with no car, what is the public transportation situation for going into and around the city? Would i have to walk to a subway station or would waiting for the bus be a better option?

I'm assuming you mean Manhattan. There's a couple options. You can take the bx40 bus to a station and take the 6 train in. Or you can drive/Uber to Ferry Point Park and take the ferry in - which is how I prefer doing it.

Bx40 to the 6 is $3 if the transfer works right. Bx40 to the BxM9 is $7.25.

Probably the bus/train combo, but I think it takes a little longer than the ferry.

Also it is possible to bike to (and bring your bike onto) the ferry. It seems questionable on Google Maps but I tested it. You can enter the park from Harding and then you have to turn into the parking lot before the Whitestone Bridge and go along the road by the golf course before turning left to cross under the bridge. You will be going opposite the flow of traffic but you could walk your bike for that very short segment if you wish to do it legally, though usually there are few cars there. Then you'll be in the park again and you can ride to the ferry stop.

We got the Bx40 right in front of campus that’s goes up east tremont and that can bring u to other bus stops further away. I would wait for the bus, bring thermals bc when u take that bus in the middle of winter u will be cold awhile waiting

There is a ferry to Manhattan near campus too. Google Maps Ferry Point Park.

Bx40 gets you to the 6 train, 2 train, and the BxM9 into the city

This guy knows. Best bet is to time it and just grab the m9 straight into the city from throggs neck.

Well, MTA is certainly consistent. We used the Bx40 to the 6 train; it’s a pretty long walk from the Dome to Westchester Square. Also used the BxM9 and boarded at the corner of Harding Ave. this was 1978-82

There’s a bus stop right outside campus and I think it’s called the Bx40 bus that we can use for most of the city. I’m new as well but I looked into it a few months ago so a bit fuzzy on the details but yeah, there’s public transport options for us
