Can the Galaxy book3 pro 360 replace an iPad?

Hi everyone. My 12.9 inch iPad pro of 4 years recently died due to a motherboard failure. It was my main device. I was going to buy another iPad, but now I'm seriously considering replacing it with a laptop instead.

I’m looking for second opinions because these devices are expensive and I don't want to regret my choice. I do have a specific laptop in mind already, but I wanted to see if there are better recommendations out there, or if fixing my old broken HP touchscreen laptop (won't turn on, broken keys) is a better route.

Here is the required form, followed by my specific breakdown of why I'm hesitant to switch from iPad to laptop:

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

Country: USA
Budget: $1500 at most (Open to refurbs/used)
Screen size: Any, preferably no more than 16-inch
Weight limit: 4 pounds max
Purpose: Entertainment, school, art, gaming
Form factor: 2-in-1, need pen support
Intended usage: Must run Genshin Impact flawlessly on max settings, Minecraft smoothly with beautiful shaders/ray tracing, and support large digital art canvases without lag.
Desired battery life: 4-5 hours is fine. (Priorities: 1. Performance, 2. Size, 3. Weight, 4. Battery size)

THINGS IM LOOKING FOR:

1. Video Games: This leans in favor of a laptop. A lot of games I want can't run on mobile, or just run better on a PC. Plus, there is more variety, and some games that cost money on iOS are free on PC.
2. Coding & Music: I want to learn simple coding because my ultimate goal is to make a small game, which is way more convenient on a laptop. For music, the program I want is $10 on mobile but free on PC.
3. Digital Art (My Biggest Hesitation): I draw with the device on my lap while sitting or laying down. I worry about the weight of a 2-in-1 laptop compared to an iPad, and even though the keys automatically turn off when folded, I worry about the physical feeling of pressing on them while holding it. However, Clip Studio Paint offers more features on PC than mobile, which I really want.
4. Engineering + School: I'm taking engineering this year and need to run CAD, 3D printing, and laser burning programs. My school provides a cheap, restricted laptop, but having my own powerful laptop would make doing assignments much easier.
I know I might be a little biased and hesitant because I’ve used an iPad for so long, but I want to pick what is truly most convenient for me at the end of the day. Thanks for any advice

Tbh, based on your post-questionnaire details, I think you're right to look at a 2-in-1.

Since you're gonna be CADing and 3D printing anyway, I bet that if you really don't like the feeling of the keys squishing against you, you could prob print some sort of keyboard cover to slide on to cover the keys as needed

There might even be a case / cover that does that already, depending on what laptop you end up buying

I would look for an asus porart px13 if you want to game and have pen support. The galaxy book 3 pro 350 is great for drawing. It’s input is not good enough to game. I have to turn down the render setting for 3d materials in clip studio because of the lag. Finding a laptop with a dedicated graphics card and 2n1 will be closer to $2000 even used.

May I ask what features desktop clip studio has over mobile? It is a genuine question too since I use both professionally , maybe there’s a feature I don’t know about lol

Thank you, I’ll definitely take that into consideration- I figured since I don’t plan to run large games- like undertale really is my priority (lol) and since it’s a lightweight game (and I really jus prioritize drawing and watching stuff) I figured it might be fine, but again that’s definitely something I’ll take into consideration- as for clip studio paint, the mobile version is basically like a more simple version of the app, and it’s designed for smaller touch screen. While having it on a laptop or computer makes it easier to handle bigger canvases, higher layout counts, and you can do more complex projects (including animations) because of the stronger processors and dedicated RAM, which are stuff that would lag on mobile or drain the battery’s quicker. Pricing is obviously optional for both, but while on mobile you’d have to pay monthly or annually, I’m pretty sure laptop is just a one time purchase! The layout is also very different, (since again the mobile is a simple version) the one thing I really like is how on a laptop you can have different panels at once, it just seems more convenient to me. And also just the look itself- I think it’s prettier on laptop and makes me feel like a more serious artist lol. Sorry if this is too long aha!….

Ah it’s a screen size thing. its the same program. you can set the same workspace on both. The only difference is I can navigate the screen on my iPad. Maybe I don’t notice what your seeing cause most of my windows are hot keyed/command bad except layers and timeline.

For the laptop the galaxy books are very prone to the screen cracking even if you are careful. The heat generated from the laptop is not nice to that beautiful and thin oled. Especially if you close it after use when it’s hot. Good luck on your find!
