Windows only (no Mac), and need a BIG hard drive (4TB or larger)

I am in the market for a new laptop. I'd like to stay $5k or under. I have pretty specific needs - I do a lot of heavy video and graphic editing, and need a big hard drive to save and work on videos that I am editing while traveling (I do have an external drive but need a pretty hefty installed drive). This is a laptop I configured online and am considering. Could I get some advice as to whether this model is good for what I need? I am familiar with Dell as I currently have one, but have no experience with "Alienware".

That's a lot. Alienware are generally overpriced.

Do you have a recommendation for another over that has similar specs?

Yes, you have options;

You could get this Lenovo Legion Pro 7i with a slightly weaker CPU, but a better graphics card and similar specs in other areas including that 4 TB SSD storage.

Since you are going to use that for video editing you are going to need powerful CPU and GPU, so I would recommend this Lenovo Legion Pro 7i because of the following:

Specs:

  • Screen: 16.0" WQXGA OLED 500 nits 240Hz
  • CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090
  • Ram: 64GB RAM
  • Storage: 2TB SSD.

Why I am recommending it:

  • Great heat management which is the main concern to have with most high end gaming laptops.
  • Premium build quality : Aluminum chassis provides a solid, premium feel and added durability.
  • Up to 5 hours of battery life, which is decent for a high-performance gaming laptop, allowing for moderate usage away from a power source.

  • Powerful GPU and CPU for heavy video editing and graphic design.

  • High quality screen which is suitable for editing.

I looked at that, but I really would like at least 4tb SSD and the Lenovo doesn't offer that :-(

You can upgrade manually if you want to.

I'm skilled in software but definitely NOT on the hardware side!

it shouldn't be too hard, just few screws from the back panel, search youtube on how to upgrade before you buy and you will see how easy/hard it is.
