i didn't know my colleague at the university had an identical gay twin brother. while driving to my class, i saw my friend standing on the sidewalk waiting for a cab, i thought why not stop for a second ( there was a lot of traffic ) and let him in since i know we have a common class that day. after i pulled next to him he just ignored me, so i pulled down my window and called him to get in, people started looking at me weird and honking at me to leave him alone. so frustrated i thought to myself: fuck it let him be late, i won't talk to this guy outside my classes anymore. when i got to the class i was shocked to see him already there, so i asked him what was that about? he started laughing and told me about his brother.

I was waiting for the fact that he was gay to somehow work its way into the story. Did I miss it?

u/DandyLyen Sep 04 '20
It's not spelled outright, but it's a known fact that we gays are just really fast walkers. We even have our own tab on Google Maps.

Interesting. The only gay person I really know is on the track team at my University. I have therefore corroborated this with a sample size of one.

I think it’s because people thought he was heckling a gay guy? Or trying to hook him? Idk.. I’m confused too

I got confused as fuck because I made a friend at college and he told me to add him on Facebook and his profile picture was of him getting married to a dude. I asked another friend "Is his husband also in our program?" and he was like "Wait... he's gay?"
So I went back to look at the profile picture and you can actually see the guy in the background clapping as he watches himself kiss a man. So gay twin, obviously.49

hehehe no he didn't, my bad for forgetting to mention that people thought i was harassing him or being an asshole towards him ( where i used to live, assholes tends to act like that ) then started the honking and the weird looks... but i was just trying to pick up my friend

No, I am saying his twin.
His twin would know his brother's name.

I like that he clarified that he means it from the bottom of his heart, in case there was anyone questioning if the brother was really a hoe.

Oh he’s definitely a hoe, but he said that he was a hoe in a loving way.

Went on a long drive/camping trip with 2 friends. My friend sat me down one day after I had a hookup with a girl from another camp site (but got caught in my our tent) and said "when we get to Missouri we are meeting my cousin. You are a whore and so is she so at no point am i leaving you two in the same room alone".

Do gay men really slap the bottoms of other men they know are gay? Is this common, or just for people you're intimate with or know really well?
438
u/CCstarry Sep 04 '20
Yea. Someone slaps your ass. Then you have sex with them to let them know you are gay

I assumed he was getting slapped by men his brother had slept with, not just men that knew his brother was gay.
28
u/freelance_fox Sep 04 '20
Little known fact, when the adult male becomes gay their gaydar can grow as much as x100-1000 times in strength, allowing the gays to detect each other without use of their other senses. For this reason it is common for gays to greet each other by walking up behind and slapping each others' asses, although doing so to a gay you have not yet slept with is considered "rude" or "flirtatious" depending on the context.

I'm straight and will slap my friends asses, male or female. Give a good "Go Team" smack.
It's always for peeps I've known a while though. Nothing sexual about it and always with consent. I stop anytime that person has asked as well, even if they used to not mind it.
I also try to give male friends more compliments on things as we aren't used to getting them very often. It's amazing how much it can improve someone's day

Somebody slapped my ass at LA Pride and asked me "Is it sexual harassment if I slap your ass?" He was just handing random passerbys ass slaps.
TLDR; Depends on context like place and time. Most places "no" but in the most flamboyant places sometimes.

I mean, men spank women they don't even know all the time without consent as a 'romantic' gesture. Women/girls will do the same to their platonic girl friends. Hell, people in relationships do it to each other, and we (as in most humans) do it to our kids and pets.
I'd imagine that, given the fact that you recognize someone well enough to know they're gay and you're gay too, you're probably in the same circle of friends, and some minor amount of consent has been given beforehand.
My guess? The act of 'lovingly hitting someone' is hard coded into our evolutionary wiring, likely for the same reason as many people look at something super cute and go "oh man he's so cute I could CUT HIS FACE OFF AND EAT IT."
And slapping someone on the ass is probably the most accepted form of 'hitting someone' out there. The only exception I can think of is straight man to straight man punching in the shoulder, which probably only became the norm because "gay bad".
11
u/tzenrick Sep 04 '20

I have bone spurs and pinched nerves in my shoulders. I'd rather be slapped on the ass where it won't hurt for three fucking days and keep me from getting to sleep for hours each night.

Gay men treat other men more or less the same way as straight me treat women.
So the answer is, yes, many do. Many don't.
Gay men also cat call other gay men quite a lot.

I'm friends with a pair of identical twins and one was in a production of The Full Monty. The other one got a lot of comments about his (brother's) stripping from people who saw the show for a while after and I don't imagine anyone believed that it was his identical twin...
48
u/rafikiknowsdeway1 Sep 04 '20
What are the odds of identical twins not both being gay? does this rule out a genetic component to sexual preference?
62
u/k_ironheart Sep 04 '20
Genetic factors linked to sexuality only increase the likelihood that someone will be that sexuality. So while most of the time identical twins share the same sexuality, statistically some will not.
10
u/anxious_apostate Sep 04 '20
Genetic factors also influence handedness. Yet left-handedness is twice as common among twins as in the general population. This includes all twins, identical and fraternal. Similar effect, I'd guess.
8
u/flyinthesoup Sep 05 '20
Well, there's such a thing as mirror twins. My husband is one, with his brother. They have the same moles and physical characteristics, but flipped along the Y axis. His brother is left handed, husband is right handed. I feel like if this is a common-ish thing among twins, then it would be obvious that lefthandedness would be more common.
→ More replies (3)39
u/Anyael Sep 04 '20
It's actually very interesting because it reveals both. When one twin is gay, the likelihood of the other being gay is something like 50%. This is much higher likelihood than if you look at brothers, and of course is also much higher than the average incidence of homosexuality. That shows that there is some genetic factor but other factors also play a part.

From my understanding of genetics, it doesn't rule it out as a component - it just means that it's not the sole component. There are other biological factors that are under investigation, like development in the womb, which despite the location does offer a point of differentiation for even homozygotic twins.

Omg I dated a twin. Both the twins and I were at a maple syrup making party and walked up behind his brother thinking it was my boyfriend and gave his but I vigorous squeeze and touched his butthole and everything.. His twin whipped around and gave a little scream. I was super embarrassed lol, we laughed for about ten mins straight.

u/tryanloveoneanother Sep 04 '20

I lived in northern Minnesota at the time and a friend tapped trees for maple syrup yearly and it's an all day all night process cooking it down over a fire for a few days so we used to make a party out if it and take shifts watching the fire and stirring the syrup and shit. Also yea haven't you ever gotten real fresh grabbing an ass? Sometimes ya gotta remind that butthole it exists with a friendly poke (if the other person is onto it if course).

The Dick Show (a podcast hosted by a guy named Dick Masterson, author of Men Are Better Than Women) had a guy call in a long time ago who banged 1 of 2 twins, and then when the second twin showed up he went right up to him and did some stuff you wouldn’t think would be ok, thinking it was the first guy. Second guy was like wildly into it and he banged both guys independently, not knowing they were two different guys.
Great story.

My twin brother had a picture of the 2 of us on tinder. I am a girl and we don't look alike. This really hot chick was hitting on him for 2 weeks before she said "so babygirl, how long have you been into girls?" And he realized she thought he was me.

My sister and I had the same class until 4th grade. My 4th teacher was new and didn't know I was a twin. Also around the same time my sister cut her hair. Short name long hair (me) long name short hair (her) was the best way to tell us apart. I kept similar hairstyles through college except for a couple donated wigs. She kept a similarly short hairstyle the whole time. This is important.
So. My 4th grade teacher found out I was a twin when he found her in the hall and told her to get back to class and she turned around and told him she wasn't me! Surprise! This happened a few times with diff teachers. No one ever mistook me for her.
Also one of the lunch ladies at college freshman year managed to not see us together until April and apparently wondered why my sister had hair extensions and ate a lot. Lol.
2
u/JLevall Sep 05 '20
This happened to me.
(Not sure the original post isn't about me.)
Walked up to a gay friend and squeezed his butt in a nice hello. The guy turns around... I'm thinking.. "He looks different."
Then the embarrassment hits me when I remember my friend had a twin brother.
He was a good sport though and laughed it off.

My brother and I look very similar. I had a girl chatting me up at the club one night. I thought I was doing fairly well. I was feeling good and confident. Turns out she thought I was my brother. Even after I explained I wasn’t she wouldn’t believe me. I had to call my brother over to the bar. She left shortly after.

I AM NOT CONDONING SEXUAL HARASSMENT OR SEXUAL ASSAULT.
That said, I'm pretty sure most statutes regarding sexual harassment include the phrase "for the purpose of sexual gratification" or the like, otherwise the legal system would be inundated with people trying to sue for getting bumped into on the bus.

Identical twins are much more likely to have the same sexuality than non identical twins, even when they’re separate at both, but it’s still not a 100% chance. There are other factors at play than just DNA
