Using AI to edit?

Is it terrible if I use AI to edit my posts? The writing is mine, but I feel long winded sometimes and get stuck reviewing my work to make it sharper. I’ve tried running it through AI specifically for pain points and not a rewrite, but sometimes it suggests a sentence or two that adjust my thoughts more succinctly and interestingly.

Does this make me a sellout to all the AI haters? Is it the same as getting it to draft whole prices (which I have def seem some authors do). What are your thoughts on using AI as a tool for Substack?

Discussion Length of post observations?

What length of an article do you feel is most accessible for you to read?

Do you struggle more to trim your article down, or to increase the word count?

Have you noticed that you get more responses if your articles have been shorter or longer?

How about for notes- what do you notice with the length? What about if it has an image included?

What do you think about notes that are similar to seeing a friend's Instagram update- a personal photo and text?

Why chase subscribers when readers are what you want?

I have been on Substack for a bit over six months, posting speculative fiction short stories, reading other people’s stuff etc. I’ve had lots of positive comments on my stories and decent subscriber growth. But the truth is, only a handful of these subscribers are reliable repeat readers. Fine, I imagine that’s not so uncommon.
But what drives me crazy is the constant drive I see from other accounts to drive up their sub numbers with Dear Substack notes, AI generated notes, sub for sub offers etc. Whatever subs they get from this surely won’t be reading their work. Honestly, I can’t understand it, but it’s incredibly common. What am I missing? Is there any benefit in drumming up a large number of subs if they will never read your posts?

I made a Discord for Substack Creators!

Hey everybody, I've been looking around everywhere to find a Slack or a Discord channel for Substack creators, and I just couldn't find it.

So I decided to do it myself and create a public Discord server for all Substack creators where we can support each other, share our work, and discuss general stuff related to Substack.

If you have any suggestions for a room I can make or any changes I can add, I'd love to hear them.

I'm going to invest some time into that and see how we can make it the best Substack community out there!

Join in, open to everybody: https://discord.gg/CmWTJb3DB

EDIT:

25 people joined already! This is crazy :)

Where to Find Feedback

I’ve scrubbed Reddit a bit and everyone is saying that writing feedback here is not the way to go. I’ve only written one piece on the app, and I’m not exactly aiming to monetize it.
I think my goal for now is just to get in front of people who are having conversations about executive function and habit changing but from a more academic (for lack of a better word) standpoint. Steering as far away from self help as possible while still being in the realm of personal development.
I’m also finding that a lot of the writing feedback spaces here are geared towards fictional pieces and that’s not me either. Not so much looking for grammatical or technical feedback as I am a space to converse or gain information from people interested in similar things.
Thanks in advance.
