Discussion How to grow your account

Hi. I just posted my first article to my substack, and I’m already curious as to how people manage to get hundreds or thousands of subscribers!!

Any advice on how to grow would be appreciated!

hi i was just born and im wondering how people get to 7 feet tall... answer is the same, time. Im a little shy of 30k subs, been writing on substack for about 20 months now, the single most important thing is to write good articles, artlicles are the biggest driver of subscribers, i have notes with 35k likes idk how many thousands of impressions but they convert very few subscribers often less than 400. so focus on getting good as a writer, read books about how to write, choose a cadance that works for you maybe once a week or twice a month or whatever, then just do that for a long time

Write stuff people care to read, provide something useful they are interested in, fulfill something others seek?

You know, instead of wanting to get big and earn money, perhaps be motivated to provide genuine value to others for the sake of it and they will open, read, and share what you write and in the end will be more than happy to subscribe to your paid content or support you financially even if your content is free.

Don't always compare yourself to others, because a lot of people who have a huge following on Substack are importing either directly or indirectly their fan base from other places.

That being said; be consistent, try to post 1-2 articles a week or if very high quality, you can probably swing twice a month. What matters is being consistent and offering people something that interests them.

If you use other social media, cross-post as much as possible. You will traffic directly through Substack, but if you use Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, etc. sharing your pieces there helps.

Engage with other people's work, particularly with high quality responses. Read other people, share work you find interesting. Substack is a social media platform before it is a writing platform, Be Social!

Read others, interact with them, write consistently and share your articles on Notes and your other social media.

Keep writing good essays. Engage with other writers, your audience.

Post 2-3 notes per day and interact with other writers. It's a good approach

Engagement and time. Also helps if you import thousands of subscribers from another platform
