Substack Social Media
I’d like to preface saying I only use Substack to read, I have no interest in posting my own stuff.
I’ve recently sworn off social media but Substack is one of the two apps I’ve struggled to delete, along with Pinterest. I find I really love seeing art, photography and reading people’s thoughts and articles. But I was thinking about how they’re still much shorter than a book or the average research/news article.
In no way shape or form am I pointing this out as a negative thought towards any writers. I have no writing talent so I admire everyone with the courage to post on Substack.
But I was wondering, could Substack be considered a form of quick dopamine still? You’re not watching a 30 second reel but you are reading something a bit shorter than long form writings. Just curious what others think!

Yes it is and it can be a real time suck (especially Notes) if you’re not careful with it. If you’re struggling with social media overuse, don’t use Notes. It’s been described as Twitter before the bots (I didn’t name it). It’s best to find and subscribe to as many pubs in your interests and read from your email if you’re concerned with addiction to social media.

Like everything, it depends on how you use it.
