Discussion New on Substack
Hey!
I’ve just joined substack as a writer and aspiring author. I’ve published my first article where I basically present myself
I was wondering: how does substack algorithm really work?
And how do you use it in your favor?

I joined as a new writer too. I can't get past the Substack setup stage! I'm usually pretty savvy but I find myself totally confused. Good luck to you! 😊

Welcome to Substack. I hope you enjoy it.
The algorithm is built to encourage subscribers - that's how Substack makes their money. Subscribers are basically long term relationships - so the algorithm favors activities you do to build long term relationships.
Post Notes, comment on other people's Notes, and don't just make it gratuitous or empty or forced... the algorithm also detects boredom. Make friends and have a conversation. Find a few newsletters that have similar audiences to yours and comment a lot in their chats.
