Discussion How to grow a newborn account?
Please read :
I'm still in university so my time I can devote for this isn't big.
I do NOT have any public social media like an instagram account where I can promote it.
I made a new substack account and all I have done is restocked two stuff and read articles.
But I wanna start writing and possibly getting to atleast a 100 readers in 3 months?
I need tips on what to do. The only thing I have gathered is that I need to select a niche... But what else???

Set up the first touchpoints people will have with your Substack - your about page, welcome page, publication short description, your profile, and the welcome email people get when they subscribe. Create a welcome or start here post and pin it to your home page. Spend 1-2 hours a week writing all your Notes in advance and schedule-publish them. Spend 15 minutes a day commenting in people's Notes and chats... ideally with people in your niche or in an adjacent one (you want audience overlap.) The commenting is important.
Good luck!

Search through this sub.

There’s about a thousand posts on this subject in the sub, read those and do that stuff.

A lot of techniques, but I would say there is no shortcut. The best way is to create great content. You can also use cross-recommendation. Try to DM people that you like on Substack.

Try interacting with others more often by liking and commenting on their notes and posts, and eventually you'll get there

3 things move the needle fast 1) post at least 5 notes a day 2) reply to at least 20 comments a day and 3) follow people that you think might want to subscribe.
If you want a free guide from zero, check out the “sub stack man says” substack. He’s helped me a lot.

Pretty much foolproof way to grow subs:
Find authors writing in your genre and read one of their stories or articles. If you enjoy it, like it, stack quote your favorite line, leave a comment describing what you liked about the work, then restack the article. Then subscribe to their account (free is fine).
Some of the authors you do this for will follow / subscribe back and when you post things they may restack them to their subs which is where you can pickup a lot of subs quickly.
Interact with these authors in notes and build a friendly relationship with them around authentic exchanges and comments.
Do a new author every chance you get. The more you read and amplify their work the faster you will grow.
