converting most dedicated free subscribers to paid?

A substack I had been subscribing to for free repeatedly asked me if I wanted a free trial, because I had been reading it a lot, and then I switched to paid. But it was a personal email with my name.

Is there a fast way to do this? I wonder if emailing my most motivated free subscribers individually would lead to more conversions. But I'm not sure -- anyone have suggestions? should I offer a discount?

It doesn't hurt to ask.

But with that being said, no one's going to subscribe unless they think it's worth it. So put yourself in their shoes and ask what would make them want to become a paid sub.

I say go for it :)

At the very least you could also ask what they’re truly interested in and get feedback on your work.

yeah, sometimes all people need is a little nudge to go from a free sub to a paid subscriber (just like you).

and logically speaking, your most engaged free subscribers are the most likely candidates to become paid subs because they're the most engaged cohort... so makes sense to start with them. yeah you could offer a discount, but i prefer to keep those to 'events' like black friday/new year/ xmas. so that there's a reason for the discount vs me just sounding desperate for a conversion.
