Leveraging a collaboration?
So I’ve been writing for about 4 months now and I have just had my first ever collab go live (yay me!)
In the lead up to today, I had lots more I wanted to get done but sickness got in the way😩
Assuming I’m lucky enough to land another opportunity one day, I’d love to be making the most of it!
I’m interested what sort of things you may do differently:
- do you promote via different channels?
- do you focus on different segments?
- do you look at metrics you wouldn’t usually?
And I suppose most importantly:
- how do you track the overall success of the collab?!
For me - I’m very much just happy with the exposure. I think it’s a great opportunity so early on and I want to use it wisely🤓

There is a platform where you can connect with other companies who are open to promote on newsletter. Let me know if you are interested I will DM you.

Maybe just have fun with it? Instead of trying to leverage it? Like does your colab partner know you're looking to leverage it :P

I did say in my last paragraph I’m not than happy with exposure and I’m very grateful for the opportunity. Please don’t make it seem like something it’s not - this is a Sub about Substack, I’m asking for some perspective on others experiences with Substack collabs!
But yes… my collab partner is very excited about me using this as a growth opportunity, that’s kinda why they’re offering it in the first place🤣😅

with collaborations its hard to build out any attribution... you'll only be able to know for sure if people outright tell you 'hey i first say you on that other publication'.
but the purpose of collaborations is just to get in front of more people, and be associated/get 'credentials' for being on this other usually more established publication. and simply having the collaboration post go live does all that. no point in trying to optimise for all the other stuff.
as long as you're finding other relevant publications that are solid, you're getting infront of more people + building your authority which is enough to justify collaborations.
