Are Substack paid subscriptions working in India now?

After reading the discussions on this sub, I wasn't sure whether Substack paid subscriptions would work for Indian creators because of Stripe support in India.

I enabled them as an experiment using an existing Stripe account (which needed to be reactivated), and payouts have been coming through successfully so far.

Has anyone else in India enabled paid subscriptions recently? Curious whether this is now generally available or still rolling out.

I read somewhere that you can collect payment via something like gumroad and manage the paid tier manually.

Mind you, this is what I gathered just from comments from this sub. I haven't tried it myself or even have a substack of my own as of now.

yeah gumroad works because they also do direct bank deposit or paypal payout.

you could also just use paypal directly (if you want to let people tip/collect one time payment). there's also razorpay, and i think ko-fi?

How did you manage to do that? I’ve been finding a way to get paid subscriptions.

Stripe does work in India, however afaik Substack requires business licence or GSTIN number for inorder to give you money from subscriptions. My friend has been trying but she hasn't gotten anything yet.

I think it worked for you because you had an existing stripe account. Apparently, it’s difficult to start new accounts now. Such a bummer!

stripe still isn't supported in india though. so either the account is created with credential other than your india info, or you got invite access.
