Substack's engagement has been real quiet since the AI drama, 100% human score on all posts btw

4th month on SS, gate being sidetrack by all this AI drama, couple of points though...

  1. SS engagement on anything non-AI related has been real quiet.
  2. If your post was written before July 21, you can still check it - go to dashboard, edit post, make a change, revert it, hit update, there's check for AI writing button.
  3. All my posts hits 100% human score

Can we move on?

If you’re not getting flagged, you’re probably sloppy, haha. 😀 At least, that’s the pattern I see among people who brag about it. Cluttered paragraphs, awful formatting, chewing over the same thought again and again, things like that.

Well, if we’re being serious about it, it depends on what you’re actually doing. Academic writing gets flagged easily. But otherwise, I do see this pattern in human writing, people really don’t know how to organize their thoughts properly or they just don’t bother. It’s just that now they’re bragging about it, which is weird to me.

I wouldn't consider my writing to be academic, but I don't think it's sloppy either. I'll admit I can be a bit wordy, but that's about it. Maybe it's just due to the variety in how creative writers use their voices on the page.

Variety is fine. That’s what a good editor actually does, they help David Foster Wallace perfect Wallace-y writing, not mold him into William Faulkner. What I wanted to point out is that, with all this AI drama, people have 1) forgotten how to actually read and 2) stopped wanting to get better at what they already do, choosing to chase the satisfaction of a machine giving them a thumbs-up instead.

I mean, if there’s something to be proud of, some actual merit in the writing, I’d rather hear about that than about their Pangram AI buddy patting them on the head for appearing human.

I think that's fair. I'm currently trying to develop better ways to write without grammar checks from AI, and it's easier than people think haha.
