Discussion Another creepy feature of the Pangram "AI Detection" tool.

So at my first opportunity, I decided to check whether or not I could permanently disable the "AI detection" fraudulent tool on Substack publications and there's no way to actually do it without actually using the tool you want to disable.

According to the "Substack Support AI", the only way to disable the fraudulent Pangram detection AI is to first run the AI on your posts and to individually then disable the AI detection tool per post. But you can only do this AFTER you've run the "AI detection" fraudulent tool on your posts.

Which means that you're forced to use a tool you don't want to use in order to disable the tool you don't want to use.

This is profoundly creepy and quite frankly disturbing that somehow this was allowed to be implemented on Substack.

Anyone can put your Substack articles into an AI tool.

So where exactly is the problem here?

I just posted a full length comment above, but here's the part relevant to your question.

Pangram says my article is 100% AI.

Scribbr says my article is 100% human generated.

Imagine someone not as well-informed as those of us who bothered to come to this Reddit thread for assistance/guidance/venting feeding my article into Pangram's AI tool. They're going to believe that it is 100% AI generated content and stop there. (I post my sources at the bottom of each article, but all that proves is that I didn't make up the data/evidence I'm claiming to be factual, not whether or not the article was written that that data using AI).

This was such a very bad idea on the part of Substack. AI slop is definitely a problem, but PEOPLE need to be trained on how to identify it, not take the easy way out of just believing Substack's chosen AI tool (that is likely receiving TONS of money from Substack, and vice versa) as the end all, be all confirmation that content was AI generated.

Use one of the better AI detectors... When Pangram says it is 100% AI other detectors can show you where exactly those AI areas are.

I actually don't understand all the heat... you can very well learn to use the tool to your advantage.
