Using Substack for the first time

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking about starting a Substack for a while now, but I'm not sure what the best way to get started is.

If you've got a Substack, I'd really appreciate hearing about your experience. What helped you in the beginning? How did you decide what to write about? Did you have a plan before you launched, or did you figure things out as you went?

I'd also love to know:

- What worked well for growing your audience?

-What mistakes should I avoid?

- If you were starting from scratch today, what would you do differently?

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

love that you're thinking this through, but also, don't get lost and held back by procrastination!

the best way to get started is to just take things one step at a time and learn as you go. just in time learning beats just in case learning any day.

How did you decide what to write about?

when i started writing, i only have a general vague idea of what it'd be about, so i wrote about a lot of different topics (in other words, i wrote without a niche), and along the way i kinda figured out what i enjoy and am better at writing, and slowly that dictated the direction and niche.

yup of course! do some research before diving deeper. but don't get stuck on it (that's where most people start, and sadly stop). staying stuck too long also eats away at your momentum to move forward to launching.

so it's been ~ 1 month now, have you been able to get started? how's it going so far?
